CRESTON -- Emile B. Coen, 86, 5729 Stuckey Road, died Saturday morning, March 15, 2003, at her home after a one-week illness.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with the Rev. Homer Watson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born April 6, 1916, in Chloe, W.Va., to Oka and Myrtle (Jarvis) Conley and married Lester "Buss" Coen on Nov. 2, 1941. He died March 22, 1983.
She had made her home in Creston for the past 57 years and retired from Nabisco Brands in Seville in 1989. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed quilting.
Surviving are daughters, Eva (Bruce) Clevidence of Wadsworth, Wanda (Pat) Halpin and Sandy (Ron) Flickinger, both of Creston; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carsie Conley of Chloe, W.Va.; and sisters, Orda Offutt of Creston, Mildred Lewis of Charleston, W.Va., and Oleta Yentz of Wadsworth.
In addition to her husband, brothers, Claret, John, Ray and Harley Conley and a nephew, Harley Conley, whom she raised, died previously.
Dorothy Dawson
MILLERSBURG -- Dorothy Dawson, 98, of Millersburg, died Saturday morning, March 15, 2003, at Holmes County Home.
Graveside services will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. David Carrick officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements.
She was born Oct. 7, 1904, in Millersburg to David and Mary Ellen (Conrad) Degler and married Vernon Newman. He died previously. She later married Jim Dawson. He died in 1961.
She was a member of Millersburg Christian Church.
Surviving are children, Glorine Markley of Millersburg and Jim Dawson of Clark; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, children, Leona Atkinson, Tom Newman and Norma Burgett, a grandson, Ronny Atkinson; brothers, Harry, David and Arthur Degler, an infant brother and sisters, Anna, Sivilla Elizabeth and Sarah Degler, died previously.
Martha Baker
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Martha Leona Baker, 66, of Albuquerque, N. M., and formerly of Wooster, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M.
Services will be March 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Cedarville Ohio First Church of God in Cedarville. Burial will be at North Cemetery in Cedarville.
She was born Aug. 5, 1936, to James and Ora Shaw.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet R. Malta of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Richard Lee Baker of Wooster; grandchildren, Angelo Richard Malta, Rachel Rae Malta, Kristopher Joseph Baker and Jesse Ray Baker; sisters and brothers, Florence "Myrnie" Hertenstein, Barbara Burba, James Shaw, Lucy Evans, Wanda Wilmoth, Connie Branham, Ruth Maynard and Duane Tackett.
A sister, Donna Tackett, died previously.
Roy Garver
SPENCER -- Roy H. Garver, 93, of Spencer, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, after a short illness, at Akron General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 23, 1909, in Hammond, Ill. After graduating from Wooster High School, where he was the first drum major, he pursued a lifetime occupation of dairy and grain farming in Wayne, Ashland and Medina counties. In addition, he worked as a superintendent of inspections at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron.
Mr. Garver was a Chatham Township trustee for eight years and also served as chairman, was a representative for a five-state area for the Ohio Farmers Union and was an active member of Chatham Grange. He loved his large gardens and especially enjoyed sharing his watermelons and cantaloupes with family and friends.
Mr. Garver was a friend to many, but most important to him was his wife and family.
He and his wife, Florence, celebrated 70 years of marriage on May 26, 2002.
Surviving are his wife, Florence (Jennings); sons, Robert (Evelyn) Garver of Medina and Donald Garver at home; daughters, Joan (Thomas) Turner of Seville and Nancy (Robert) Mathewson of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Debra Kinker, David Garver, Teresa Garver, Stephen Garver, Jeanette Gray, Patricia Garver, Daniel Turner, Michael Turner, Lyle Turner, Timothy Turner, William (Chris) Mathewson, Scott Mathewson and Susan Jones; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and sisters, Mary Haver of Tucson, Ariz. and Martha McCoy of North Canton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Daisy (Hiser) Garver and a sister, Sarah Ellis.
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. The Rev. Phil Wilden will officiate. Burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred Henderson
FREDERICKTOWN -- Mildred Alice Henderson, 88, 17567 Arnold Road, and formerly of Barberton, Orrville and Butler, died Sunday evening, March 16, 2003, at her residence, following a long illness.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the East Chippewa Church Cemetery near Smithville with the Rev. Philip McMurrin officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is handling arrangements.

She was born July 17, 1914, in Dalton to Elmer and Alice (McClelland) Homan and married Roosevelt Joseph "Ted" Stuckey on Sept. 4, 1932, in Orrville. He died Nov. 4, 1965. She married Henry Henderson on March 23, 1968, in Akron. He died on March 14, 1984.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse for Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville for 20 years and had attended the Amity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Jerry (Maxine) Stuckey of Barberton, a daughter, Shirley Shultz of Butler, two stepsons, Carl (Madalin) Henderson of Michigan and Henry Henderson Jr., of Barberton, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, a brother, Gene Homan, and a sister, Virginia Boss, died previously.
O. Blanche Pittenger
ASHLAND -- O. Blanche Pittenger, 92, formerly of state Route 511 RD No. 3, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Kingston of Ashland Nursing Home.
Services will be Thursday, March 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., Ashland, with Pastor Durward Hays officiating. Interment will be at Ashland County Memorial Park.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

On Jan. 22, 1911, in Huron County, Blanche was born to the late William and Pearl (Day) Kramb.
She had been a resident of Huron County most of her life and resided in Ashland County since 1945 as a homemaker.
Blanche formerly attended the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Ashland County Farm Bureau, the Jolly Homemakers of Nankin and the Ashland Senior Citizens Kitchen Band.
On Jan. 3, 1930, Blanche married Ross N. Pittenger, who preceded her March 29, 1983.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Joan Pittenger of Ashland; a son-in-law, Gene Spoerr of Ashland; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding Blanche are an infant son, Roy Arthur, an infant daughter, Lois Jean, two sons, Robert in 1998 and Glen in 1997, and a daughter, Genieva Spoerr in 2001.
Mary Schmel
BURBANK -- Mary E. Schmel, 79, formerly of Parmenter Road, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman.
Private services will be held with the Rev. Robin Myers officiating.
Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held.

She was born May 16, 1924, in Cullman, Ala. to Robert and Myrtle (Ramsey) Bates. She married John Schmel on Jan. 7, 1959. He died in 1984.
She graduated from Kenmore High School in Akron. She served in the U.S. Women's Army Corps in El Paso, Texas, during World War II.
She was an assistant buyer for the M. O'Neil Company. She loved gardening and her animals.
She is survived by children, Carole (William) Miller of Doylestown, Terry (Tammy) Schmel of Wadsworth, and a daughter-in-law, Rita Schmel of Wooster; grandchildren, Kim Downs, Jenna, Bianca and John Schmel; a great-grandson, Andrew Downs; a brother, Harvey Bates of Green and a sister, Louise Earl of Cullman, Ala.
In addition to her husband, a son, Kevin Schmel, died previously.
Aurelia Seffens
LOUDONVILLE -- Aurelia Seffens, 79, 224 N. Water St., Loudonville, died Sunday evening, March 16, 2003, at The Cleveland Clinic, following a short illness.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at The Church of the Nazarene, 509 N. Union St., Loudonville, with the Rev. John Miller officiating. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.

She was born Nov. 7, 1923, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Lorenzo and Maria (Robles) Ortiz.
She was a Loudonville resident since 1971, retiring from The Flxible Company in 1989.
She was a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, with a degree in elementary education, teaching in Puerto Rico.
She attended the Loudonville Church of the Nazarene, was a member of the Loudonville Women's Club, and was an avid card player.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Wilbur Jr. and Faith Seffens and Felix and Jennifer Seffens, all of Loudonville, and David and Robin Seffens of Lakeville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marilyn and Curtis Derrenberger and Paula Young, all of Loudonville; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Delores Cossentino of Ozone Park, N.Y., Frances Shin of Orlando, Fla., Adella Carmona of Cape Coral, Fla. and Lydia Vidal of Fajardo, Puerto Rico.
A granddaughter died in 1998.
Arthur Shank
WOOSTER -- Arthur David Shank, 87, 3551 N. Elyria Road, passed away Sunday morning March 16, 2003, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, following a short illness.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, with Pastor Delaine McGhee of Bethel United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be at Reedsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born March 17, 1915, in Wayne Township to Wesley W. and Cecilia (George) Shank and was a Chester High School graduate, where he played basketball and baseball.
He was an area farmer for many years. He then worked for the State of Ohio as a school bus driver and later he took care of the roadside parks in this area before retiring in 1985.
He was an avid bowler and sports enthusiast. He was a member of the New Pittsburg Senior Citizens and the Wayne County Farm Bureau Council, Northwest No. 7.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruth Shank and Pauline Shank; nieces, Mary Belle Nelson, Joan Jewell, Marilyn Stull and Sandy Wenger; nephews, Donald Shank, Wayne Shank and Terry Shank and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Pearl Lawrence, Laura Little and Florence Shank, brothers, Lewis and Ralph Shank, a niece, Margaret Grimwood and a nephew, Howard Lawrence.
Neva Sommer
RITTMAN -- Neva B. Sommer, 84, of Rittman, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at her home.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home, Rittman, with the Rev. Ron Heasley officiating. Burial will be in Rittman Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Brewster to Silas and Myrtle (Hanner) Snyder and lived most of her life in Rittman. She married Walter "Wally" Sommer on Dec. 12, 1942. He died on Nov. 9, 1990.
She was a 1936 graduate of Brewster High School and attended Massillon Business College for two years.
She was formerly employed by Hershey & Rohrer and was a former deputy registrar in Wayne County. She also served on the Wayne County Board of Elections.
She was a member of the Rittman United Methodist Church, Howard A. Bair Post No. 423 of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Gold Star Sister.
Surviving are daughters, Susan (Homer) Feikert of Smithville, Sharon (Ned) Mishler of Dalton and Sally (Tom) McKenzie of Creston; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a brother, C. Wayne Snyder of Shelby, N.C.
Three sisters and two brothers died previously.
Harold Thomas Sr.
WOOSTER -- Harold Dean Thomas Sr., 62, 1828 Akron Road, Lot 2, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with the Rev. Michael Decker officiating. Burial will be at West Union Cemetery in Monroe County.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born Sept. 16, 1940, in Monroe County to Forest and Ella (Marty) Thomas.
He was employed at Techno Cast in Orrville. He had made his home in the Wayne County area for the past 40 years.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Dean Thomas Jr. of West Lafayette and Robert Scott Thomas of Wooster; four grandchildren and a brother, Russell Thomas of Dalton.
His parents, five brothers, Robert, Homer, Junior, Clarence and Cecil and three sisters, Mary, Bertha and Clara, died previously.
