Grace Mott
CAREY - Grace Juanita Mott, formerly of Township Highway 105, Carey, and Glenhaven Road, Upper Sandusky, died at 3:25 a.m., Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the Independence House in Fostoria. She was 87. A daughter of Harry and Hazel (Tilton) Alspach, she was born in Wyandot County on May 28, 1915. She married Robert Mott in Monroe, Mich., on Feb. 14, 1934. He died Jan. 12, 1985. Surviving are a daughter, Eileen Buckland, Findlay; three grandchildren, Cheryl Manley, Fostoria; Cynthia Rickle, McCutchenville; and Robert Buckland, Carey; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four sisters; and one brother. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and two brothers. A homemaker, Mrs. Mott assisted her husband on the family farm. She attended Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey. Mrs. Mott was a member of the church's Mary Martha Class, Wyandot Republican Women's Club, Carey Women's Club, Carey Band Boosters, Wyandot County Home Demonstration Council, Order of Eastern Star Warpole Chapter No. 366 in Upper Sandusky and a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Carey. She also was a 50-year member of the election board, volunteered with the American Red Cross bloodmobile and was part of the JT and PRS Club. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking, baking and traveling. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church with the interim pastor Andrea Starn officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation is today from 4-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home and for an hour prior to the service at the church. Harold Pahl
CAREY - Harold V. Pahl, 510 St. Mary's Ave., Carey, died at 7:50 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Wyandot County Nursing Home. He was 79. Born in Salem Township on April 5, 1924, he was a son of Firmen and Agnes (Wright) Pahl. He and Imogene N. Lauer were married on Oct. 16, 1948, at St. Patrick's Church in Bascom. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Donald, Carey; four daughters, Diane Welly, Upper Sandusky; Teresa Brodman, Carey; Karen Mates, Fostoria; and Lisa Pahl, Columbus; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Howard, Carey; and David, Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Frankart; and a brother, Cleo "Sam." Mr. Pahl was a lifelong Wyandot County farmer. He attended Arcadia and Carey schools and St. Michael's Catholic School in Findlay. He attended the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. A horse enthusiast, Mr. Pahl was a member of the United States Trotters Association, Wyandot County Farm Bureau and a former member of Moose Lodge No. 1093. A Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation with the Rev. Leo Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salem Township. Visitation is at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral home from 2-9 p.m. today, with a wake service at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Lydia Loliger
BUCYRUS - Lydia Loliger, 99, formerly of Bucyrus, died at 1:30 a.m., Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community in Upper Sandusky, where she had resided for the past six years. Born on Jan. 25, 1904, in Bern, Switzerland, she was a daughter of John and Marie (Wildi) Witschi. She married Samuel Loliger on Sept. 5, 1936. He died Jan. 26, 1962. Surviving are three children, Samuel, Buffalo, N.Y.; Ruth Volk, Crestline; and Martha Alexander, Gilbert, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 12 siblings, including her brothers Felix, Werner, Edward, Theodore and Victor Witschi; and a sister, Bertha Grace. After moving to Turtle Creek, Pa., in 1906, Mrs. Loliger moved to Mansfield in 1910. She graduated from Bowman School in Mansfield, and attended Ohio Wesleyan from 1923-28, graduating with a bachelor's degree in the arts. After briefly working in Cleveland, she moved to Canton and to Bucyrus in 1967. She was a secretary in the Canton Public Schools until 1965. Mrs. Loliger was a former member of the First Reformed Church in Canton, where she served as youth director and church secretary. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Bucyrus, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Women's Guild and the Delta Alpha Circle. Mrs. Loliger also was a member of the Bucyrus Current Events Club, the American Association of University Women and the In As Much Circle of Kings Daughters. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, with the Rev. Samuel Buehrer officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton. Marjorie Rish
FOREST - Marjorie A. Rish, 20833 U.S. 30 N, Forest, died at the Wyandot County Nursing Home near Upper Sandusky at 3:20 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2003. She was 78. Born in McComb on Aug. 17, 1924, she was a daughter of John and Edith (Schilling) Farthing. She and Victor Rish were married on Aug. 1, 1959. He survives. Mrs. Rish graduated from Kenton High School in 1942. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge No. 237 in Findlay. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Shields Funeral home in Forest. Burial will follow in Hueston Cemetery in Forest. Visitation is Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
Eileen Shaffer
Eileen M. Shaffer, 409 S. Eighth St., Upper Sandusky, died at 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community, where she had been residing since 1991. She was 87. Born in Wyandot County on March 20, 1916, she was a daughter of Howard and Minnie (Ageter) Shaffer. Surviving are four brothers, John, Carey; Edward, Upper Sandusky; Harold, Marion; and Robert, Nevada. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Glen, Paul, Albert and Frank; and a sister, Mary Cole. Mrs. Shaffer was a member of North Salem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed car rides around the countryside. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Ralph Sturtz
NEVADA - Ralph E. Sturtz died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at his home on Lemert Road, Sycamore. He was 86. Born in Crawford County on Nov. 23, 1916, he was the son of Finnie and Ada (Robison) Sturtz. On March 31, 1938, he married Atta May in Newport, Ky. She died June 7, 1985. Surviving are a son, Keith, Bucyrus; a daughter, Sonja Kalb, Bucyrus; and four grandchildren, Brian Sturtz, Westerville; Laura Sturtz and Ben Kalb, Columbus; and Carrie Johnson, Marion. A sister, Velma Kellenberger, is deceased. Mr. Sturtz was an inspector for Swan Rubber in Bucyrus for 30 years and farmed part time. He built two new homes and remodeled his current home. He had attended Holmes Liberty School. His hobbies included tinkering, raising flowers, traveling and collecting teapots. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in Nevada Cemetery, the Rev. Pat Fruth officiating. There will be no calling hours. James Brown
James D. Brown, 235 N. Fourth St., Upper Sandusky, died at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, at 4:25 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2003. He was 67. A son of Voyle and Katherine (Kirby) Brown, he was born in Upper Sandusky on Aug. 31, 1935. He and Lorraine Osborn were married March 21, 1984, in Upper Sandusky. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Ashley Brown, Upper Sandusky; five sons, Mike, Nevada; Jeff, Brownstown; and Tim, Glen and Jamie, all of Upper Sandusky; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Paul, Bucyrus; and Jack, Upper Sandusky; and a sister, Sue Adkins, Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Shirley Swartz. A 1954 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mr. Brown retired in 2001 after 33 years in the maintenance department at Uni-Grip in Upper Sandusky. He worked for more than 10 years at the former Clay Craft brick yard and at the former Chief Dairy in Upper Sandusky. He attended the First Lutheran Church. Mr. Brown was a member of Moose Lodge No. 1093, AMVETS Post No. 77 and the Eagles Lodge, all of Upper Sandusky. He was a former member of the Wyandot County Rod and Gun Club and the Wyandot Sportsman Club. He enjoyed going fishing with his sons, shopping at Wal-Mart and Meijer, eating out, driving his tractor, and being with his dog, Mattie. Mr. Brown also enjoyed going to USHS football and basketball games, watching his daughter play in summer softball league games and was a Cleveland Browns and Ohio State University football fan. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Julianne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Jeannette Burns
Jeannette E. Burns, a 56-year resident of Morral, died at 2:28 p.m., Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Marion General Hospital at the age of 77. Born in Delaware on July 21, 1925, she was a daughter of Clifford and Littie (Wurtzbacher) Ward. Surviving are two daughters, Karen Mosbarger, Marion; and Sharon Burns, Harpster; three sons, Rodney, Duane and Larry Burns, all of Morral; eight grandchildren, Jason, Angela, Jordan and Ashley Burns, Valarie Burns, Brinton Colby Jr., Rachel Outcalt and Holly Burns; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Ward. A homemaker, Mrs. Burns was a fan of all sports and enjoyed picture painting, country music and bingo. She was a member of the Morral United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge, with the Rev. Paul Stannell officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

Leonard Clausing
NEW BREMEN - Leonard George Clausing, 95, formerly of rural New Knoxville, died at 11:50 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2003, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. He had been residing at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky. Born Dec. 24, 1907, in Auglaize County, he was a son of A.F. William and Caroline (Henschen) Clausing. On Sept. 14, 1933, he married Lenora Viola Hoelscher. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Larry, Tiffin; and Don, Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Barb Bjornstad, LaCrosse, Wis.; David Clausing, Cincinnati; Mark Clausing, Newark, Del.; Jacque Gladu, West Chester, Va.; and Mandy Payne, Escondido, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Zella Schmidt, New Bremen. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ferdinand and Albert; and a sister, Olga Paul. Mr. Clausing was a retired farmer and was a member of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon and elder. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First UCC in New Knoxville, with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Visitation is at the church for an hour prior to the service. Marguerite Bigley
Marguerite E. Bigley, formerly of 300 Highland Parkway, Upper Sandusky, and Marion, Mansfield and Ashland, died at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community at 11:45 p.m., Sunday, June 1, 2003. She was 92. Born in Little Sandusky on July 5, 1910, she was a daughter of Martin and Alice (Brewer) Egger. She married Paul B. Bigley on Dec. 24, 1928. He preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Paul Richard, Lady Lake, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee; a daughter, Mary Ann Rodenberger; six brothers and four sisters. A 1928 graduate of Marion Harding High School, Mrs. Bigley had been a seamstress all her life. She had worked for Ward Stillson Co. and Houten Sulky Co., both in Marion, making seat cushions and covers. She retired from Ashton Co. in Marion, where she made leather coats. She attended Steam Corner Methodist Church. Mrs. Bigley was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Marion. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing bingo, crocheting, knitting, quilting, shopping, vegetable gardening and flowers. A graveside service will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens in Marion. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m. Thursday.
Roy Prater
CAREY - Roy Lee Prater, Vanlue, died at Riverside Methodist Hospital at 6:01 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2003, at the age of 71. A son of Boyd and Mollie (Salyer) Prater, he was born in Magoffin County, Ky., on Dec. 30, 1931. He and Shirley Ann McRill were married on June 18, 1953. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael, Altus, Okla.; and David, Findlay; a daughter, Melinda Westenhaver, Vanlue; six grandsons and three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Herbert Prater, Carey; and Tom, Powell and James Prater, Findlay; and two sisters Betty Clark, Forest; and Barbara Kloeppel, Vanlue. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell. Mr. Prater formerly worked with steel construction with Local Union No. 55 out of Toledo. He retired from Cooper Tire Co. in Findlay after 35 years. He was of Protestant faith. Mr. Prater was a former member of the Hancock County Conservation and Coonhunter's League, Vanlue Fox Hunter's Club, Vanlue Volunteer Fire Department and Eagle's Aerie No. 2198 in Carey. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Joseph Searfoss officiating. Burial will be in Van Horn Cemetery in Vanlue. Gary Iles
Gary L. Iles, 1155 Edgewood Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, at 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003. He was 47. Born in Upper Sandusky on May 1, 1956, he was a son of Jay and Margaret (Kruse) Iles. He married Patti J. Chalfin on Jan. 2, 1982, in Upper Sandusky. She survives. Also surviving are his mother, Upper Sandusky; two sons, Broc, Wharton; and Jay, Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Andrea Iles, Carey; three grandchildren, Austin, Reece and Lauryn; and two brothers, John, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Thomas, Sierra Vista, Ariz. Mr. Iles was the owner/operator of Rosebud Cafe', Upper Sandusky, and the former co-owner of Total Sports Connection, Upper Sandusky. He was a member of BPOE No. 83 and Moose Lodge No. 1093, and a past member of American Legion Post No. 225. He enjoyed golfing in both the Elks and Hickory Grove golf leagues for the Rosebud team. Mr. Iles also was on dart leagues in the county, bowling leagues, pool leagues and enjoyed playing Ping-Pong. For more than a decade, he was a season ticket holder for the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and was a fan of theirs and of Ohio State University. He organized bus trips to Browns and Indians games, too. Mr. Iles enjoyed traveling and vacationing around the United States, especially to Las Vegas, and working with and being around people at the Rosebud. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, with Jim Lehnhart speaking. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Dorothy Snider
FOREST - Dorothy A. Stillberger Snider, Upper Sandusky, died at her residence at 7:45 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2003. She was 90. Born in Hardin County on April 20, 1913, she was the daughter of Berlin and Iva (Pemberton) Huston. She and Max Stillberger were married June 15, 1934. He died Nov. 15, 1980. She then married Donald Snider on Dec. 14, 1986. He died Dec. 7, 1997. Surviving are a son, Hilbern Stillberger, Findlay; three daughters, Karen Bash, Forest; Cheryl Snellgrove, Columbus; and Jane Davenport, Upper Sandusky; two stepsons, Harold Snider, Kenton; and Ken Snider, Findlay; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Darl, Ralph, Carl and Floyd Huston. A 1931 graduate of Arlington High School, Mrs. Snider was employed by several businesses in Upper Sandusky and was a former co-owner of the Western Auto Store in Upper Sandusky. She was a member of the Big Oak United Methodist Church in Wharton. There, she served on the administrative board, was president of her Sunday school class and served on several committees. Mrs. Snider more recently attended Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky. Mrs. Snider enjoyed sewing and flower gardening. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Shields Funeral Home in Forest, with the Revs. Howard Huston, Donald Clinger and Ken Varney officiating. Burial will be in Hueston Cemetery, Forest. Robert Milum Sr.
Robert "Yacky" Milum Sr., 229 S. Fourth St., died at his residence at 3:15 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2003. He was 72. Born in Wayne, W.Va., on July 22, 1931, he was a son of Scott and Sara (Jackson) Milum. He married Donna Lynscot, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 2, 1961, he married Martha A. Maddox in Greenup, Ky. She survives. Also surviving are five sons, Robert L., Cincinnati; Ted, Wharton; Robert, Upper Sandusky; Wayne, Gahanna; and James, Findlay; four daughters, JoAnn Young, Lancaster; Linda Davis, Nashville, Tenn.; and Kathy Miller and Sandra Milum, both of Upper Sandusky; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil and Scott, both of Delaware; and a sister, Mrs. Murl Ullman, Rittman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Milum; four sisters, Bertha Smith, Elsie Morgan, Vade Odell and Violet Milum; and two brothers, William and Eddy Milum. A U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Milum served from 1950-52. He was retired from Ruttmann Construction as a warehouse manager. Prior to that, he was a truck driver for Emeral Pfeifer and Glen VanHorn. He was a member of First Baptist Church and also attended the Wildwood Chapel. He served as a lay pastor. Mr. Milum enjoyed reading the Bible daily, fishing, camping, drag racing, mowing his lawn, eating out and his pet dogs. A graveside service will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Huebscher officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by local veterans' organizations. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Friday and for an hour prior to the service Saturday. B. Lee Himmeger
DELPHOS - B. Lee Himmeger, 69, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, at 2:30 p.m. Born Aug. 2, 1933, in Delphos, he was a son of Clarence and Charlotte (Weathers) Himmeger. He married Billie Jo Brittingham in 1952. She survives in Delphos. Also surviving are two sons, Bernie, Grove City; and Brad, Hilliard; two daughters, Jody Gorman, Brighton, Mich.; and Julie Thompson, Lewis Center; six grandchildren, Rachel, David, Elizabeth, Jacob and Carter Himmeger and Taylor Thompson; two sisters, Evelyn Weideman and Helen Mullenhour, both of Delphos; and a brother, Earl, Belle Center. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan. A 1952 graduate of Delphos Jefferson High School, Mr. Himmeger participated in basketball, football, baseball and track, and earned 1,000 points in his career, making him a member of the 1,000 point club. He then attended Findlay College, where he played basketball and baseball, going to the NAIA basketball tournament twice. Mr. Himmeger was principal in Ayersville for 12 years, athletic director for 23 years and summer program supervisor for 24 years. He taught at Ayersville for 24 years, Upper Sandusky for eight years and Zanesville for two years. He coached basketball for 33 years and made three trips to the state championships Class A, winning twice. He also coached baseball for 23 years, track for 10 years, tennis for four years and golf for seven years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos. Mr. Himmeger also was a member of the Delphos Fraternal Order of Eagles, District 7 Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, 2001 Hancock County Hall of Fame, 1998 Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, 1982 Dapper Dan Classic Coach, 1972 Findlay University Hall of Fame, 1962 and 1977 North/South All-Star Coach, 1961 and '62 Ohio Class A Coach of the Year, president of the OHSACA from 1966-68, District 7 director for eight years in basketball, football official for 20 years and district secretary for 12 years. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos, with the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos. Visitation is at Harter and Son Funeral Home in Delphos from 2-8 p.m. Friday and for an hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos.
