Dolores Weinandy
SYCAMORE - Dolores M. Weinandy of rural Tiffin, died at her home at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003. She was 58. Born in Tiffin on Aug. 4, 1944, she was a daughter of William and Angela (Schletter) Renninger. She married Robert E. Weinandy on April 18, 1964 in Tiffin. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael and Dan Weinandy, both of rural Tiffin; a daughter, Brenda Parker, McCutchenville; six grandchildren, Sarah Parker, Carson, Tess, Nathan, Brooke and Allyson Weinandy; five brothers, Bill Renninger, Lyman, S. C.; Arthur "Skip" Renninger, Genoa; Tom Renninger, Tiffin; Ralph Renninger, Powell; and Tim Renninger; and two sisters, Shirley Shipper, Chesaning, Mich., and Joanne Elchert, Tiffin. Mrs. Weinandy was a former employee of American Greetings. She was a homemaker and also helped on her family's farm. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown. Mrs. Weinandy also as a member of the McCutchenville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a certified volunteer eagle watcher, was a former Mercy Hospital volunteer, 4-H adviser and member of the Melmore Mother's Club. Mrs. Weinandy's hobbies included eagle and bird watching, gardening and growing sweet corn on her family's farm. She also gave presentations about eagles to local organizations. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev. Conrad Sutter officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be at 8:45 p.m. Friday at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore. Visitation will be Friday from 2-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Ayla Perry
Ayla Whren Perry, 433 N. Seventh St., Upper Sandusky, was stillborn at 4:08 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay. She was the daughter of Daniel Perry and Rhiannon Pahl, both of whom survive. Also surviving are a brother, Jaden Pahl, Upper Sandusky; maternal grandparents, Thomas Pahl and Teresa Landoll, both of Carey; and paternal grandparents, Gerald and Sherri Perry, Melmore. Private family services were held. Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Jane Harding
Jane A. Harding, 246 Nantucket Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus at 2:05 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003. She was 51. Born in Carey on June 18, 1952, she was a daughter of George and Gertrude (Shine) Ritter. She and Robert Harding were married June 19, 1972, in Lima. He died Sept. 6, 1994. Surviving are a son, Robert Jr., Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Angie Stutz, Upper Sandusky; three grandchildren, Ben, Brad and Taylor; four stepgrandchildren, Mike Brittani, Josh and Chelsea; two brothers, Jack Ritter, Carey; and Richard Ritter, Upper Sandusky; and five sisters, Florence Stansbery, Carey; Mary Lou Duffin, Cheboygan, Mich.; Shirley Rife, Sycamore; and Carol McKee and Linda Weatherholtz, both of Upper Sandusky. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and David Ritter; and two sisters, Marguerite Beidelschies and Dorothy Stansbery. For 17 years, Mrs. Harding was a receiving clerk and key holder for Pamida in Upper Sandusky. She collected lighthouses and anything to do with Elvis Presley. In her younger years, Mrs. Harding bowled and golfed on several leagues with her husband. She enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Harriet M. Nachbar
Harriet M. Nachbar, formerly of 136 N. Hazel St., Upper Sandusky, died at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Marion at the age of 94 at 4 a.m., Sunday, June 22, 2003. A daughter of Lewis and Sophia (Zwilling) Beidelschies, she was born in Mifflin Township on April 8, 1909. She and Ray Nachbar were married in Upper Sandusky on Nov. 26, 1931. He died Nov. 24, 1995. Surviving are a son, Robert, Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Marilyn Saxton, Marion; five grandchildren, Elaine Atchison, LuAnn Wentling, Sharon Newell, Dan Saxton and Nancy Saxton; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Moore and Ruth Cook, both of Upper Sandusky. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Welch; and a brother who died at birth. A homemaker, Mrs. Nachbar enjoyed babies and children, and collected Precious Moments figurines and baby dolls. She enjoyed working outdoors on her home and lawn. She was a member of the First Church of God where she taught Sunday school for many years. Nancy Settlemire
OTTAWA - Nancy Lou Settlemire, 57, of Wapakoneta died on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 11:30 p.m. in St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. Born in Bluffton on May 4, 1946, she was a daughter of Richard and Lois (Kisseberth) Nemire. She first married David Sutter on June 24, 1967, and they later divorced. She married Delbert Settlemire Sr. on July 19, 1988. He survives in Wapakoneta. Also surviving are a son, Scott Sutter, Upper San-dusky; a daughter, Sondra Christian, Wapakoneta; four stepsons, Delbert Settlemire Jr., Benton Ridge; David Settlemire, Boston; Craig Settlemire, Findlay; Kevin Settlemire, Leipsic; three stepdaughters, Connie Dor-man, Pandora; Debbie Smith, Rawson; Kathy Bugner, Rawson; four grandchildren; 25 stepgrandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Nemire, Continental; Michael Nemire, Gilboa; and a sister, Linda Payne, Toledo. Preceding her in death were a brother, Paul Nemire; and a sister, Barbara Nemire. Mrs. Settlemire was a cashier for Hutchinson Shell in Wapakoneta. She was a member of Leipsic United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Leipsic. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Ottawa, with the Rev. David Spellerberg
FOSTORIA - David L. Spellerberg of Fostoria, died at his home on Saturday, June 21, 2003. He was 83. Born on March 24, 1920, in Upper Sandusky, he was a son of L.J. and Martha (Von Blon) Spellerberg. He married Jeanne Fry on June 21, 1946, in Port Clinton. She survives. Also surviving are a son, David II, Westlake Village, Calif.; three daughters, Marty Green and Jane Stroman, both of Fostoria; and Nanci Britenburg, Fremont; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman, Denton, Texas; and Thomas, Tiffin; a sister, Rosemary Harsha, Portsmouth. He was preceded in death by a brother, John. A 1938 graduate of Union High School in Upper Sandusky and a 1942 graduate of Miami University with a bachelor's degree in business administration, Mr. Spellerberg was a U.S. Navy aviator transport plane commander with the V-R-3 Squadron in World War II. He retired in 1985 as CPA, treasurer and administrative manager for Fostoria Industries with more than 30 years of service. Mr. Spellerberg was president of his high school class, a member of Wings Over Miami, trained in CPT and WTS programs and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria, where he was a former member of the Wesley Orchestra and former president, treasurer and board member. Mr. Spellerberg was a member of the Fostoria Arts League, past treasurer and board member of Fostoria Rotary Club, past president and board member of Fostoria Community Hospital from 1966-77, past member of the Fostoria Toast Masters, a member of the Seneca County Personnel Managers Association and the National Association of Accountants. He was a member of the VFW National Champion Band from 1952-70, a member of the Fostoria Community Band, Findlay Civic Concert and Jazz bands, Ernie Duffield Band and the Dana Dorsey Big Band. Mr. Spellerberg enjoyed music, flying and golfing. Memorial services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria, where military honors will be conducted by the Joint Veterans Group of Fostoria. Miriam Hudson
COLUMBUS - Miriam C. Hudson, 74, died Friday at her residence. She was born in Upper Sandusky and was a daughter of Robert and Arlene Smalley. She married Dale E. Hudson, who preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Dye, Homewood, Ill.; a son, Michael, Pataskala; four grandchildren, Jeff, Spencer, Mackenzie and Jennifer; and a sister, Pauline Fletcher, Bowie, Md. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eastview United Methodist Church, 1045 Ross Road, Columbus. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus. Wayne Hartman
FOREST - Wayne R. Hartman, Williamstown, died at Birchaven in Findlay at 10:50 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2003. He was 88. Born May 15, 1915, in Hancock County, he was a son of Wesley and Grace (Agin) Hartman. He married Jeanne Davis on June 20, 1986. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Wayne, Kingston, N.C.; Charles, Arlington; four daughters, Kay Betz, Williamstown; Mary Armstrong and Sharon Hoopes, Upper Sandusky; Kathy Hoke, Newport News, Va.; two stepchildren, Marion Musgrave and Linda Sue Thomas, both of Dunkirk; 22 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, Jean Grohoske and Fred Hartman; two grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Hartman. Mr. Hartman retired from United Aircraft Products in Forest. He attended Williamstown First Brethren Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Shields Funeral Home in Forest with the Rev. Jim Donnally officiating. Catherine Horn
Catherine R. Horn, 483 N. Fourth St., Upper Sandusky, died at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community at 9 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2003. She was 78. Born in Wyandot County on Aug. 11, 1924, she was a daughter of Ralph and Sarah (Frey) Horn. Surviving are many cousins and friends, including Char Koehler. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Horn. A 1942 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Ms. Horn was employed for 37 years by the U.S. Government in the Department of Defense at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. She was a secretary, administration and management assistant from 1942-79. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was involved in Sunday School and Women of the ELCA. Ms. Horn was a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter No. 2278. She also was a member of the Wyandot Piecemakers quilting club, Lutheran Brotherhood Chapter No. 8751. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Dayton Chapter, Exemplar Chapter and bridge clubs. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, bridge, music, art and dancing. The funeral will be Friday at noon at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Elsholz officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 10 until noon on Friday. Howard Morris
Howard K. Morris, a lifelong resident of Wyandot County, died at Hardin Hills Health Center in Kenton at 10:45 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003. He was 79. Born in Osborne on May 24, 1924, he was a son of John and Bessie (Spergeon) Morris. He and Anna Rosalie VanBuskirk were married on Aug. 21, 1946, in the Marseilles Methodist Church. She died Feb. 3, 1998. Surviving are three sons, John, Upper Sandusky; Mark, Kenton; and Keith, Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Joyce Shroll, Oregon City, Ore.; and Susan Elaine Culpepper, Findlay; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Derwin and Kenneth; and a sister, Marianne McGinnis. A 1942 graduate of Marseilles High School, Mr. Morris was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served with the First Infantry Division, 16th Infantry Regiment. He was involved in six major engagements, first in the initial assaults on Sicily and Normandy. Mr. Morris also saw action in northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe campaigns. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received at Normandy, the Bronze Star for bravery and the Distinguished Unit Badge, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Morris was self-employed. He also had worked for Landmark Inc. in Kirby and Kenton. The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Gregory officiating. Amy Tucker
BUFFALO, W.Va. - Amy Sue Rathburn Tucker, 47, of Grimms Landing, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. She was a daughter of the late Pearl Rathburn and Donna Rathburn Baker of Upper Sandusky. She and John Tucker were companions for 19 years. He survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Melissa Tucker, Buffalo, W.Va.; a son, Matthew Tucker, Robertsburg, W.Va.; a stepson, Johnny Tucker, Winfield, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Brooke, Evan, Derek, Warren, Reanna and Khori; five sisters, Micky Tucker, Paula Ritter, Rosalie Stander and Cindy Rathburn, all of Upper Sandusky; and Lori Walters of Crestline; and three brothers, Brad Rathburn, Andover; Randy Rathburn, Carey; and Greg Rathburn, Forest. Mrs. Tucker graduated from Upper Sandusky High School. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Raynes Funeral Home in Buffalo, with the Rev. Randy Parsons officiating. Burial will be at Tucker Cemetery, Grimms Landing. Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Lois Oman
KENTON - Lois Virginia Oman of Kenton died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton. She was 48. Born July 27, 1954, in Kenton, she was a daughter of Albert and Margaret (Glock) Bailey. On Dec. 6, 1986, she married Joe Oman in Kenton. He survives. Also surviving are her sister, Rosemary Bailey, Kenton; and her foster father, William "Bill" Wuethrich, Kenton. Her foster mother, Joan Wuethrich, is deceased. Mrs. Oman was a homemaker. She graduated from Kenton Senior High School in 1972, attended Grace United Methodist Church in Dunkirk, was a member of the Ladies Fellowship of the church and a member of Weight Watchers. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Schindewolf Stevens Stout Funeral Home, Kenton, the Rev. Linda Stafford officiating. Burial will be in VanHorn Cemetery, Vanlue. Stella B. Eggleston, formerly of 115 CH 96, Carey, died at 12 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2003, at The Heritage in Findlay. She was 84. Arrangements are pending with Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
Lawrence Higginbotham
CAREY - Lawrence M. Higginbotham, Alvada, died at the Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria, at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003. He was 83. Born in Buffalo, W.Va., on July 21, 1919, he was a son of Abraham and Sophia (Runion) Higginbotham. He and Anna Belle Jeffers were married in Prospect on Oct. 9, 1941. She died March 24, 1994. Surviving are a son, Lawrence, Marion; three daughters, Shirley Shafer, Delta; Donna Miller, Upper Sandusky; and Laura Hall, Shelburne, Vt.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; six brothers, William, Earl, Ezra, Deward, Dencil and Robert Higginbotham; and five sisters, Mary Hayes, Emma Weaver, Effie Bowers, infant Margaret Higginbotham and infant Fanny Higginbotham. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Higginbotham worked on the C&O Railroad for 38 years. Mr. Higginbotham was a member of American Legion Post 354Z in New Riegel. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Floyd Thomas officiating. Kenneth Turner Sr.
CAREY - Kenneth R. Turner Sr. of Findlay, died at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at the age of 58. A son of Ned and Myrtle (Cole) Turner, he was born in Salyersville, Ky., on Jan. 11, 1945. He is survived by seven children, Paul, Ottawa; Lisa Long, Findlay; Kenneth Jr., Heartland, Wis.; Beth Warner, Findlay; Chris Smith, Findlay; Jason Turner, Port Clinton; and Myrtle Turner, Tucson, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Lore, Newark; and two brothers, Ed Turner, Reading, Mich.; and Clarence Turner, Chilo. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Turner was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a truck driver for Titan Transport and National Freight Inc. Mr. Turner was of Protestant faith. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, where military graveside rites will be conducted by local veterans' organizations.
