Leroy Miller
Leroy J. Miller, formerly of County Highway 4, Upper Sandusky, and more recently of Marion, died at Marion Manor Nursing Center in Marion at 9:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003. He was 91. Born in Wyandot County on Sept. 4, 1911, he was a son of Charles and Edith (Krebs) Miller. He married Martha M. Hoepf on April 17, 1937, at Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. She died June 22, 1999. Surviving are seven sons, Ronald, Carey; Gary, Rittman; Paul, Upper Sandusky; Allan, Danville, Ind.; Patrick, Townsend, Mont.; Marvin and Dennis, both of Brighton, Colo.; seven daughters, Sister Patricia Miller, St. Francis Convent, Tiffin; Audrey Miller, Arvada, Colo.; Janice Metzger, Chardon; Carol Markey, Marion; Sharon Schafer, Monroeville; Deanna Smith, Indianapolis; and Marjorie Herr, Marion; 49 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild; two brothers, Delmo and Russell Miller; and a sister, Mary Ellen Lamberjack. A lifelong farmer in Salem Township, Mr. Miller had been a bus driver for the former Salem School in Wyandot County. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem Township. Mr. Miller was a former member of the Holy Name Society and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed being outdoors, vegetable gardening, fishing, hunting and growing peaches. He also liked to tell stories of his younger days. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salem Township. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Scripture will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the organization of the donorÕs choice.
April Crawford
BUCYRUS - April Dawn Crawford, 38, of Bucyrus, died at 4:49 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, following a car accident earlier Monday. A daughter of Shelby and Joann (Patton) Crawford, she was born in Portsmouth on April 16, 1965. Her mother survives in Bucyrus. Also surviving are her fiancˇ, John M. Lorenzo, Bucyrus; a daughter, Raven Michaela Lorenzo, Bucyrus; a grandmother, Goldie Patton, Vanceburg, Ky.; a brother, Paul Crawford, Nevada; a sister, Shelly Schifer, Bucyrus; and a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and grandfather, Paul Patton. A 1983 graduate of Bucyrus High School and Pioneer Joint Vocational School, Ms. Crawford had worked as a press operator for several years at Blackhawk Automotive in Upper Sandusky. Ms. Crawford enjoyed reading, going on roller coasters, movies and animals. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, with the Rev. Rodney Noblit officiating. Audrey Blair
KENTON - Audrey Mae Blair, 83, of Ridgeway, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton. Born in Hardin County on May 2, 1920, she was the daughter of Harry and Lillian (Myers) Creamer. She married George F. Brooks on Jan. 9, 1941, and they later divorced. On Sept. 11, 1954, she married John Raymond Blair. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Paul Brooks, Ridgeway; three grandchildren, Geoff Brooks, Deb Anderson and Nathan Brooks; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Creamer, Upper Sandusky. She was preceded in death by a son, George M. Brooks. A graduate of Mount Victory High School, Mrs. Blair was a retired secretary and bookkeeper from Durez of Kenton. Mrs. Blair was a member of Ridgeway United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Price Funeral Home in Mount Victory, with burial following in Grove Cemetery. James Miller
BUCYRUS - James F. Miller of Ohio 4 in Bucyrus, died early Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at his home at the age of 75. Born in Bucyrus Township on June 8, 1928, he was a son of Ray and Minnie (Spiegel) Miller. He married Barbara Turney on June 19, 1949. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy Miller, Penny Cuffman; two sons, Fred and Tom Miller; nine grandchildren, Crystal, Ted, Tyler, Claire, Jessica, Dan, Shaylyn, Luke and Robbie; and four brothers, Warren, Wilbur, Carl and Alvin. A graduate of Mount Zion High School, Mr. Miller was a volunteer firefighter and a longtime grange member. He was a lifelong member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Mr. Miller enjoyed farming, motorhome travel and following his grandchildren's activities. The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Wise Funeral Service with the Rev. Sondra Snode officiating. Wanda Schneider
DELPHOS - Wanda Clapp Schneider of Delphos, died at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Lima Manor. She was 74. Born on Nov. 29, 1928, in Versailles, she was the daughter of Forrest and Mary Alice (Biddle) Brown. She married Marion "Bill" Clapp on May 22, 1946, and he later died. She then married Larry Schneider on July 5, 1975. He also preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Stephan Clapp, Middleton, Tenn.; four daughters, Cathy Abbott, Nevada; Pamela Moore and Marsha Newland, both of Lima; and Vickie Kleman, Fort Jennings; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A 1946 graduate of Versailles High School, Mrs. Schneider was a homemaker. She owned and operated an antique store in Florida for many years. She also owned Cameo Dress Shop and worked at various retail stores. Mrs. Schneider was a member of Delphos Trinity United Methodist Church and was active in its choir, OCCL and was voted woman of the year by the OCCL in 1970. She later attended North Park Community Church. She was active with Right to Life, the Delphos Welcome Wagon, helped start meals on wheels and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Delphos. Mrs. Schneider enjoyed fishing and scrapbooking. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, with the Rev. Jim Loughrin officiating. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery. Visitation is at Harter and Son Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Rita's Hospice or the Lima Manor Activity Fund.

James Groves
BUCYRUS - James Houston Groves of Bucyrus, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at 11:45 a.m. at Bucyrus Community Hospital. He was 90. Born Jan. 1, 1913, in Robertson County, Tenn., he was a son of Issac and Ozzie Groves. He first married Viola Kirkman on June 2, 1934. She died Oct. 6, 1982. On July 6, 1984, he married Ruth (Adams) Cassidy. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Alton, Fred and Merle, all of Bucyrus; and Harlan, Nevada; a daughter, Peggy Ruth, Sycamore; four stepchildren, James Cassidy, Harry Clifford Cassidy Jr., Joseph Allen Cassidy and Daniel Wayne Cassidy, all of Bucyrus; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas, Portland, Tenn.; and J.C., Benton and Alton, all of Bucyrus; and two sisters, Della Sapp, Campbellville, Ky.; and Nettie Houk, Bucyrus. He was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar; and a sister, Rebecca Perry. Mr. Groves retired from the Timken Co. in 1968. He moved to Bucyrus in 1938, and was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Kaler Avenue Church of Christ in Christian Union with the Rev. Bob Jividen officiating. Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Yvonne Bardon
SYCAMORE - Yvonne A. Bardon, 6464 Ohio 587, New Riegel, died at 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, in Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin. She was 68. A daughter of Dale Belnap and Reba Cogar Brown, she was born May 20, 1935, in Guardian, W. Va. On June 22, 1983, she married Richard Bardon, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Dana Long of Tiffin and Susan Long of New Riegel; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Ray Brown, Upper Sandusky; Ed Brown and Walter Brown, both of Carey; and three sisters, Sarah Brown, Carey; Christine Coffman, McCutchenville; and Veda Hall, Hacker Valley, W.Va. Preceding her in death were her stepfather, John Brown; four sons, Richard Bardon; Tommy, Chester and James Long; a great-granddaughter; a brother; and a sister. Mrs. Bardon was a homemaker and caregiver. She attended Bible Baptist Church in Tiffin and was a member of Zanesville American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobby was reading. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with Harold Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin. Daniel Garza
Daniel Luis Garza, 127 S. Main St., Kirby, died in an auto accident 3 1/2 miles south of Upper Sandusky on County Highway 119 at 7:03 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003. He was 18. Born in Columbus on Sept. 3, 1984, he was a son of Luis Garza and Kimberly (Coleman) Kern. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Jennifer Garza, Kirby; his mother and stepfather, David Kern, Tiffin; a sister, Jessica L. Garza, Tiffin; a stepsister, Erica J. Cloud, Kirby; a paternal grandmother, Guadalupa Garza, Upper Sandusky; maternal grandparents, Gary and Judy Coleman, Shelby; paternal stepgrandparents, Donna Frye, LaRue, and Richard Crider, Marion; and a maternal great-grandfather. A 2003 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mr. Garza had been employed as a stock person at Rex Appliance in Findlay. He also had worked at Frey's Roofing, Pizza Hut, A&A Grocery and The Steer Barn. He attended St. Peter Catholic Church. Mr. Garza participated in several activities at USHS, including FFA, DECA, baseball, wrestling and football. He also played little league baseball. He enjoyed customized cars and trucks and going to car shows. Mr. Garza enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, wearing his red ball cap, country and other music concerts and hanging out with friends. He was a founding member of the Renegade Car Club. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Kent Kaufman officiating. Paul Leis
SIDNEY - Paul L. Leis of Sidney, died at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Pavilion Nursing Home. He was 73. Born in Miami County on June 16, 1930, he was a son of Joseph and Ella Virginia (Meadows) Leis. He married Dorothy Strawsburg on June 16, 1949. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Mike, Elizabeth City, N.C.; and Jeffrey, Upper Sandusky; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marceil Rogers, Springfield. He was preceded in death by a daughter, three sisters and a brother. Mr. Leis was a retired machinist. He attended First Baptist Church of Sidney. Mr. Leis was a member of the Antioch Stewards of Dayton, Shelby and Miami County Shriners and Stokes Lodge No. 305 of Port Jefferson. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, with the Rev. Ron Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Shelby Memory Gardens. James Bretz
SYCAMORE - James Webster Bretz, 278 Bland Ave., Sycamore, died at 10:25 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at his home. He was 45. The son of Harry D. and Lillian M. (Bloomfield) Bretz, he was born on February 12, 1958 in Portsmouth. In 1980, he married Brenda McDanell. They later divorced. Surviving are two sons, Josh of rural Sycamore and Dustin of Forest; a brother, Harold of rural Sycamore; and a sister, Kathy Smith of Sycamore. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry. A 1977 graduate of Mohawk High School graduate, he was a member of North American Hunter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hunting for arrowheads and working in his garden. Mr. Bretz worked as a general laborer and attended Oceola Tabernacle Church in Oceola. Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Carl Angel officiating. Burial will be at Benton Cemetery in Crawford County. Friends may visit today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Wilbur Roush
TIFFIN - Wilbur G. "Bill" Roush, 6935 Ohio 100, Tiffin, died at 9:15 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003 at the Ruffing Family Care Center in Tiffin. He was 84. The son of Ucevius and Cora (Mollenkopf) Roush, he was born in Crawford County on Dec. 15, 1918. He married Joan Davis on Feb. 24, 1950. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Timothy of Melmore, Dennis of Tiffin and Ronald of Republic; a brother, Robert of New Washington; two sisters, Wilma Blakklob of Tiffin, Roma Shellhouse of rural Tiffin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a sister Wilda Wilkins. A 1938 graduate of Lykens High School, Mr. Roush served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a retired farmer and also retired from Landmark of Tiffin and Attica. He was a member of the Melmore United Methodist Church, and the Bloomville Grange. He was also a former member of and past master of Eden Grange in Seneca County, a member and past secretary of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows No. 174 in Melmore, a former Eden Township Trustee, and a member of Tiffin Daughters of America. He was on the original school board when Mohawk High School formed in 1963. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Thomas Gruver and the Rev. Howard Huston officiating. Friends may visit Sunday, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be an Odd Fellow Service at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Pamela LeMarill Walton
WAYNESFIELD - Pamela LeMarill Walton of Waynesfield, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, at the age of 48. A daughter of Lewis H. and Marilyn C. (Copeland) Rehn, she was born on March 3, 1955, in Lima. They survive in Wapakoneta. She married Albert W. Walton in Waynesfield on Sept. 14, 1974. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Ryan, Waynesfield; two daughters, Kristin, Waynes-field; and Angela Decker, Columbus; a sister, Sharon Cummins, Wapakoneta; and several nieces, nephews, great-nephews and a great-niece. The salutatorian of the 1973 class of Waynesfield-Goshen High School, Mrs. Walton went on to graduate from Ohio State University in 1977. She was a second-grade teacher at the Waynesfield-Goshen School until she and her husband started their family. She then worked at Rainbow Nursery School and had been an art teacher at Waynesfield-Goshen School. Mrs. Walton was a member of the Waynesfield United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, choir and Open Door Sunday school class. She also was a youth group leader and previously had served as the children's choir director and on the Lima District Council on Ministries. Mrs. Walton was a member of the Child Conservation League Waynesfield Chapter, the Farm Bureau Council, Waynesfied-Goshen Music Boosters and Academic Boosters. She was a former member of the Association for Gifted Children and the Association for the Education of Young Children. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Waynesfield Lions Club Facility with the Revs. Neil D. Whitney and Jackie D. Leigh officiating. Burial will follow at the Walnut Hill Cemetery near New Hampshire. Visitation is at the facility from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday. Richard Kramer
DUNKIRK - Richard "Rick" Kramer of Dunkirk died at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton, Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 2003. He was 49. Born in Kenton on Oct. 29, 1953, he was a son of Clayton and Kathryn (Aurand) Kramer. They survive in Dunkirk. He married Madeline Pash in 1983. They later divorced. Surviving are a daughter, Shannon Kramer, Arlington; a son, Scott, Dunkirk; a grandson, Drake Amsler, Arlington; three sisters, Sandra Marshall, Nevada; Beverly Crowe, Gallup, N.M.; and Rhonda Stober, Dunkirk; two brothers, Gary, Jenera; and Jack, Troy, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. A 1972 graduate of Hardin Northern High School, Mr. Kramer was self-employed. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Dola. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Price Funeral Home in Dunkirk, with the Rev. Gregg King officiating. Burial will be in Dunkirk Cemetery. Richard "Dick" Fairchild
BUCYRUS - Richard E. "Dick" Fairchild of 1140 Jefferson St., Bucyrus, died unexpectedly from natural causes at his residence Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 2003. He was 72. Born in Marion County on Aug. 29, 1930, he was a son of John and Orilla (Berry) Fairchild. On Sept. 10, 1950, he married Norma Leonberger, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Debbie McCleese, Galion; Lou Ann Cooper, Bucyrus; Ronald, Galion; and Brenda, Bucyrus; nine grandchildren, Scott, Troy, Joshua and Chelsea McCleese; Erica and Elena Cooper; Rosco, Chanda and Brittany Fairchild; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry, Marion; a sister, Jackie Miller, Bucyrus; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Fairchild was a 1948 graduate of Harpster High School and was a Future Farmer of America. He farmed, worked at the Monnett elevator, Huber Warco in Marion, Holtshouse Heating & Plumbing, and in construction. He worked in the maintenance department at Altercare of Bucyrus and had a mowing business. He helped organize Crawford County Residential Centers and was a former president of the residential board. A member of the Crestline Church of Christ, Mr. Fairchild was an elder in the church and taught Bible studies at the church camp. He was the chaplain at Altercare of Bucyrus for the past eight years, and for the past two years he drove for the Council on Aging. The funeral was held this morning at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus. Pastors Willard Delaney, Douglas McCoy and David Rogers officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Bucyrus.
