Alice Hannum
SYCAMORE - Alice L. Hannum, formerly of 101 Benton St. Lot 7, Sycamore, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky. She was 96. Born in Crawford County on July 26, 1907, she was a daughter of Lloyd and Florence (Banks) Dunlap. She married Ralph "Tip" Hannum on April 9, 1927. He died Feb. 12, 1957. She then married Ray "Bud" Hannum on June 9, 1973. He died April 18, 1980. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lou Lundy, Upper Sandusky; and Shirley Feasel, Sycamore; a son Jack, Cleveland; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald; two grandsons; and a sister, Elizabeth Melroy. After 24 years, Mrs. Hannum retired as an inspector at the former Ford Autolite Plant in Fostoria. She was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hannum enjoyed playing bingo in the Sycamore area every Wednesday and Friday night. She also was a Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed traveling, fishing and working in her garden. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Sycamore. Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Doris Musgrave
FOREST - Doris Mae Musgrave, formerly of Upper Sandusky, died at the Wyandot County Nursing Home at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at the age of 93. A daughter of Sylvester and Minnie (Gwinner) Young, she was born in Wyandot County on Feb. 3, 1910. She married Floyd L. Musgrave on July 10, 1928. He died Dec. 3, 1965. Surviving are a son, Loren, Nevada; a daughter, Suzanne Welsh, Dayton; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rollin Young, Tiffin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Hemmerly; and two brothers, Russell and Raymond Young. Mrs. Musgrave won a varsity letter in girls basketball and participated in dramatics at Forest High School before graduating in 1928. She later was a homemaker. She attended John Stewart United Methodist Church. Mrs. Musgrave enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing euchre. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Shields Funeral home in Forest, with the Rev. Rick Dawson of the Nevada United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Hueston Cemetery, Forest. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday. Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
Bob Livingston
FINDLAY - Bob R. "Shorty" Livingston of Mount Blanchard, died at Birchaven Care Center in Findlay at 11:09 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003. He was 81. He was born in Delaware Township on Feb. 10, 1922, to Fred and Edith (Mitch) Livingston. He married T. Irene Dawson on June 10, 1950. She survives in Mount Blanchard. Also surviving are a son, Michael, rural Jenera; a daughter, Dixie Helms, Findlay; two grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and three sisters, Betty Main, Bluffton; Colleen Shaffer, New Riegel; and Mary Garner, Findlay. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold; and a sister, Leona Wiess. Mr. Livingston worked at Garwood Industries for 28 years and retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1990 after 18 years of service. He attended Calvary Christian Center in Crawford. Mr. Livingston was a member of the International Association of Machinists. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Crates Funeral Home in Arlington, with the Rev. Ivan Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery near Mount Blanchard. Linus Frey
Linus R. Frey, 858 West St., Carey, died at 10:35 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003. He was 77. Born in Kirby on Aug. 15, 1926, he was a son of Isadore L. and Edith Gladys (Swerlein) Frey. He married Madelon J. Miller on May 6, 1959, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Thomas, Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Sandra Collins, Troy; and Debra Hendricks, Moraine; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew and Dara Hendricks and Chad and Kimberly Collins; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert, Springfield; and three sisters, Rita Sullivan, Alvada; Ruth Konst, Bellevue; and Irene Darr, Clyde. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Quail and Mary Elizabeth, who died in infancy. Until 1980, Mr. Frey operated the family farm. He retired in 1987 from Westinghouse/A.O. Smith after 25 years of service in the small motor division as a quality lab technician. He was union president for eight years. He was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. Mr. Frey was a member of the Wyandot County Sheriff's Auxiliary for more than 30 years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Carey and enjoyed camping at Heritage Springs in Vanlue. Mr. Frey spent time in Florida at Fort Myers, Avon Park and Lady Lake. He enjoyed square dancing and dancing to big band sound, fishing, playing cards, playing with his dog Molly and helping family, neighbors and friends as he was a handyman. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Kirby. Mary Weaver
Mary E. Weaver, formerly of 718 Chestnut Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at 9:46 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home. A daughter of Harry and Eva (Smith) Miller, she was born in Upper Sandusky. She married Paul Weaver on May 30, 1939, in Upper Sandusky. He died Feb. 27, 2000. Surviving are two brothers, Robert and David Miller, both of Upper Sandusky; two sisters, Jane Longstreth, Columbus; and Marjorie Blair, Upper Sandusky; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Harry Miller. Mrs. Weaver and her husband owned and operated the former Weaver Gas and Appliance for more than 50 years. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart, Fla. Mrs. Weaver enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending winters in Florida. Edward Karg
TIFFIN - Edward V. Karg of Nashua, N.H., died on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003. He was 83. Born in Upper Sandusky, he was a son of Jacob P. and Mary (Bates) Karg. He married Marie Apple in 1945. She survives in New Hampshire. Also surviving are three sons, four daughters, 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Renshler, Toledo; a brother, Philip Karg Jr., New York; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Robert; and two sisters, Sarah Ellen Daum and Ester Grove. Mr. Karg served in the U.S. Navy and worked for the Raytheon Corp. Burial was in Veterans Cemetery in New Hampshire. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Keith Hossler residence near Tiffin. Mathilda Gerschutz
CAREY - Mathilda Ann Gerschutz of Alvada, died at St. Mary's Hospital at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., at 1:24 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at the age of 60. Born in Tiffin on Oct. 13, 1942, he was a son of Jacob and Mary Ann (Tiell) Welly. She and Donald H. Gerschutz were married on April 4, 1970, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tiffin. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Henry, Toledo; and Albinus, Canton; a daughter, Anna Mary Beyton, Sidney; three brothers, John and Joseph, both of Tiffin; and Martin, New Riegel; and three sisters, Florence Reinhart and Lila May Faber, both of Tiffin; and Mary Reineck, Rising Sun. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Welly; and a sister, Louise Markling. A homemaker, Mrs. Gerschutz had a catering service which she owned and operated. She attended St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown. Mrs. Gerschutz was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, the American Legion Auxiliary in New Riegel and the Cursillo Movement. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel, with the Rev. Ron Schock officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens in Tiffin. Visitation is at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, from 2-9 p.m. Sunday. Scripture will be read at 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Cursillo Movement.
Audra Rollins
FINDLAY - Audra I. Rollins of Findlay, died at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at The Heritage in Findlay. She was 81. Born in Liberty Hill, Texas, on June 19, 1922, she was a daughter of Alonzo and Effie (Davis) Buck. She married Charles F. "Chuck" Rollins Jr. on Aug. 9, 1943. He died March 5, 1987. Surviving are a son, Charles F. "Chuck" III, Laredo, Texas; a daughter, Deborah "Deb" Rollins, Findlay; four grandchildren, Shelby, Charles IV, Kiara and Sarah Rollins; a great-grandchild; and two brothers, Doyle Buck, Orlando, Fla.; and Lloyd Buck, Broken Arrow, Okla. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Elbert, J.C. and Roy Buck; and a sister, Gladys Whisenant. A graduate of Famous Artist Art School, Mrs. Rollins was an artist and homemaker. She was a former member of First Methodist Church in Shelby. Mrs. Rollins was a member of the Pine Island American Legion and VFW. Local arrangements will be handled by Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay, and additional arrangements will be handled by Lee Memorial Park in Fort Myers, Fla. Raymond Mitten
CAREY - Raymond G. Mitten, 10002 Ohio 103 East, Carey, died at Wyandot Memorial Hospital at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003. He was 86. Born in Wyandot County on Oct. 10, 1916, he was a son of Gilbert and Ida (Kirian) Mitten. He married Edith M. Hayman in Albany, Ga., on Dec. 21, 1941. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Ida Cook, Tiffin; Helen Mitten, Dublin; Diana Wheeler, Carey; and M. Jane Weinandy, Alvada; two sons, Steve, Sycamore; Jerry, Upper Sandusky; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence, Tiffin. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, four brothers and six sisters. Mr. Mitten was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 8th Air Corps in England during World War II. He retired in 1981 from National Machinery Co. in Tiffin, as a machinist. He attended the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation. Mr. Mitten was a life member of Carey Conservation Club, where he had been president and director for many years. He also was a life member of Carey American Legion Post No. 344 and Carey VFW Post No. 3759. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation with the Rev. Ernest Waechter officiating. William Mullen II
William James Mullen II of Upper Sandusky, died at 9:26 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, at the age of 70. A son of William J. and Harriet (Hayner) Mullen-Mercier, he was born in Cincinnati on Oct. 27, 1932. He married Donna Herrmann on Dec. 27, 1952. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Bill, Upper Sandusky; Dave, Columbus; and Mark, Charlotte, N.C.; and Paul, Cincinnati; two daughters, Patrice Ellis, Cincinnati; and Linda Mewhorter, Upper Sandusky; 10 grandchildren, Stacey, Billy, Amanda, Alyssa, Erin and Phil Mullen, Sadie and Marissa Ellis and Jason and Ryan Mewhorter; a sister, Patricia Richards, Mason; and a brother, Robert Mercier, Mason. After attending Xavier University for two years, Mr. Mullen worked most of his life in the plastics industry as an engineer and manager. During his retirement, he worked with his son at Mullen Environmental. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Mullen was the activities director of the Wyandot County Senior Citizens for the last few years until May. He also worked for Angeline Industries and was an instructor at Tri-Rivers Adult Education Center. From 1997-2001, Mr. Mullen was a member of the Kirby Village Council. He attended St. Peter Catholic Church, and had been a member of St. Thomas Moore Parish in Cincinnati. There he was a lector for many years. Mr. Mullen was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post No. 225 and Moose Lodge No. 1093. He received his Master Gardener Certificate in November 2002 from Ohio State University. He enjoyed sharing his Irish heritage with others, reading, music, gardening and spending time with his family. The funeral will be Friday at 12 p.m. at St. Susanna Catholic Church in Mason, with the Rev. Harry Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason. Visitation is today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky for an hour prior to the service in Mason. A biblical wake service will be led by the Rev. Virginia Wood
Virginia J. Wood, formerly of Upper Sandusky and Biloxi, Miss., and more recently of Jackson, Miss., died in Jackson on Monday, Aug. 25, 2003. She was 79. Born in Wyandot County on Dec. 20, 1923, she was a daughter of George and Emma (Justice) Hollanshead. She married Horace Wilson Wood Jr. on Jan. 9, 1944, in Upper Sandusky. He died Nov. 23, 1993. Surviving are two daughters, Patrice Edward, Houston, Texas; and Jane Faller, San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren, Michael Faller, Elizabeth Eysymontt, Stephen, Kathryn and David Edward; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Stuart Hollanshead, Russells Point. She was preceded in death by a brother, Justin Hollanshead. A 1941 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mrs. Wood attended Findlay College. She was of Christian Science faith. Mrs. Wood devoted many hours to the church. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home. Dortha Troutman
Dortha "Dot" L. Troutman, formerly of Tiffin, Sycamore, Upper Sandusky and most recently of Findlay, died at Birchaven Retirement Village, Findlay, at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003. She was 77. Born May 9, 1926, in Crestline, she was a daughter of Ralph and Julia (Conley) Whitmer. She married Clifford L. Troutman on Sept. 8, 1952, near Nevada. He died July 26, 1966. Surviving are a son, the Rev. David, Fostoria; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mina Belle Huston and M. Lucille Dunlap, both of Tiffin. Mrs. Troutman was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Second E&R Church in Tiffin, and the former McCutchenville Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Troutman enjoyed playing bingo and rummy, dancing, listening to music and watching television. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. S. Wayne Alspach
BUCYRUS - Wayne I. Alspach of Bucyrus, died at 5:59 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Fairview Manor. He was 84. Born in Upper Sandusky on July 8, 1919, he was a son of Harry and Hazel (Tilton) Alspach. On March 10, 1942, he married Caroline J. Mills. She died Nov. 9, 1995. Surviving are three sons, Terry, Big Rapids, Mich.; Melvin, Columbia, Tenn.; and Dan, Bucyrus; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Helen Case and Neva Alban, both of Upper Sandusky; Annabell Smith, New London; and Betty Parks, Fremont; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David; two brothers, Frank and Hugh; and a sister, Junita Mott. After attending school in Upper Sandusky, Mr. Alspach served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his military service, he moved to Bucyrus and worked for Swan Rubber Co. for more than 40 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus. Mr. Alspach enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting and fishing. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus, with the Rev. Mike Wiechers officiating. SYCAMORE - Louada Robinson, 77, of 636 N. Vance St. Lot A-11, Carey, died at her residence at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003. A daughter of J. Warnie and Vina B. (Wages) Bowling, she was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Brenthitt County, Ky. She married J. Sheridan Gibson, and later June Robinson. Both preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Albert Gibson, Findlay; two daughters, Rebecca Gibson, Carey; and Debra Sanchez, Sycamore; a stepson, Clifford Gibson, Arcadia; two stepdaughters, Pansy Pieranunzio, Findlay; and Cleo Turnbell, Carey; seven grandchildren, Albert Stewart Jr., Corena Luna, Stephanie Winings, Heather Oesch, Clinton Gibson, Laura Gibson and Lucas Gibson; several stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous stepgreat-grandchildren; seven brothers, Harold Bowling, Findlay; Hager Bowling, Carey; Frank Bowling, Middletown; Grover Bowling, Miamisburg; Homer Bowling, New Richmond; James Bowling, Norwood; and Junior Bowling, Gillmore, Ky.; and two sisters, Eula Mae Spencer, Cincinnati; and Dorothy Madden, Trenton. She was preceded in death by a stepson, James Gibson; and two brothers, John and Howard Bowling. A homemaker, Mrs. Robinson was a personal care giver at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center and Heritage Care Nursing Home, both in Findlay. She attended Pentecostal Tabernacle Church in Carey. Mrs. Robinson enjoyed crocheting, crafts, flowers and gospel music. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating. Marguerite Ekleberry
SYCAMORE - Marguerite I. Ekleberry, 4945 CH 136, Sycamore, died at the Wyandot County Nursing Home at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at the age of 92. Born in Wyandot County on June 28, 1911, she was a daughter of Edward and Clara (Stuckey) Coffman. She and Forrest Ekleberry were married Dec. 23, 1933, in Sycamore. He died Feb. 15, 1983. Surviving are a son, Kenneth, Sycamore; two grandchildren, Kevin and Mark; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorotha Frankenfield and Leona Linn, Bucyrus; and Arlean Gary, North Robinson. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. A homemaker, Mrs. Ekleberry helped with the family farm. She attended Sycamore United Church of Christ. She formerly was a member of the Deunquat Lutheran Church and the Deunquat Lutheran Ladies for many years. Mrs. Ekleberry enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards, strawberries and spending time with family and friends. John Puckett
CAREY - John H. Puckett, 7900 W. CR 59, Carey, died at his residence at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2003. He was 71. Born in Wyandot County on Dec. 7, 1931, he was the son of John M. and Helen Rosetta (Harold) Puckett. He married Barbara Hill on Feb. 10, 1948, in Maysville, Ky. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Patricia McVay, Findlay; two sons, John A., St. Marys; and Ralph "Ace," Carey; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rebecca May Conley, Findlay. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter and a sister, Helen Fletcher. Mr. Puckett worked at the Swan Rubber Co., National Lime and Stone Co. and Carey Sheet Metal, all in Carey; Hobbs Bros. Trucking, Werk-Prau and Whirlpool Corp. in Findlay; and Ford Autolite in Fostoria. He also was a former co-owner of the Carey Greenhouse. Raymond Dirmeyer
FINDLAY - Raymond W. Dirmeyer, formerly of Bluffton and more recently of Findlay, died at 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at St. Catherine's Care Center in Findlay. He was 95. Born on March 23, 1908, in Bucyrus, he was the son of Carl J. and Minnie (Kuntz) Dirmeyer. He married Lucy Sherman on March 23, 1937. She died July 29, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Joan Mericle, Chesterfield, Va.; and Sharon Steinbrook, Findlay; two grandchildren, Matthew Mericle and Troy Steinbrook; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Collet, Upper Sandusky; and Ann Chesebro, Akron. Mr. Dirmeyer operated City Markets of Findlay, and retired in January 1971 from Westinghouse Electric Co. in Lima. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay, and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bluffton. Mr. Dirmeyer was a member of the Bluffton Garden Club and the Bluffton Senior Citizens. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Findlay. Visitation is at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
