James Plott Sr.

CAREY - James F. Plott Sr., rural Fostoria, died in the emergency room at the Fostoria Community Hospital at 11:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003. He was 67. Born in Fostoria on May 25, 1936, he was a son of Chester and Louise (Potteiger) Plott. He married Anna Caudill and they later divorced. He married Darlene Palmerton on Nov. 12, 1971. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Paula McLaughlin, Carey; and Jami McCumber, Fostoria; two sons, James Jr., Thomasville, Ga.; and Jeffrey, Carey; two stepsons, Tim Palmerton, McComb; and Tom Palmerton, Hudson, Fla.; seven grandchildren, David, Chelsie, Jessica, Jamie, Kaysie, Kodi and Kyle; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Nancy Martin, Upper Sandusky; Pat Lasley, Findlay; and Marlene Quail, Carey; and a brother, Bobby, McCutchenville. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Billie Jo McLaughlin; and a brother, Charles. Mr. Plott attended Carey High School and retired from Seneca Wire and Manufact- uring, Fostoria after 30 years. He was a member of Fostoria United Sportsmen. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. Brent Layne officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society or the American Cancer Society in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey OH 43316.

Martha Stalter

Martha M. Stalter, 417 N. Fifth St., Upper Sandusky, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She was 86. Born in Findlay on Nov. 9, 1916, she was a daughter of William Henry and Estella (Eagle) Dreyer. She and Jack K. Stalter were married in 1952 in Upper Sandusky. He died on Aug. 19, 1995. Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Maistros, Tiffin; Sue Martin, Upper Sandusky; Jerry Soule, Forest; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; five brothers, Paul, Gene, Bill, Henry and Joseph; and four sisters, Ruth, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Rachel. A 1934 graduate of Findlay High School, Mrs. Stalter retired from Fairhaven Health Care Community in 1984 after 21 years as a nurse's aide. She attended St. Peter Catholic Church. Mrs. Stalter was a member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. Peter and of the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, feeding and watching birds and squirrels, cooking, crocheting, puzzle books, playing tennis, watching television, listening to light music and her two pet cats. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Friday. Julie Hagley

CAREY - Julie L. Hagley, 8136 Ohio 199, Carey, died at her home at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at the age of 40. A daughter of Clifford L. and Patricia (Cunningham) Lindsay, she was born in Lancaster on March 11, 1963. She married Kurt Hagley on Feb. 14, 1986. He survives. Also surviving are two sons at home, Graham and Ian; a daughter at home, Amanda; and two sisters, Robyn Lindsay, Lancaster; and Tina Weltzheimer, Logan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clifford II. A 1981 graduate of Logan High School, Mrs. Hagley went on to graduate from Ohio University in 1985 with a bachelor of science in business administration. She had been a CPA at Advanced Organics Inc. in Upper Sandusky. She was a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs. Mrs. Hagley attended Memorial United Methodist Church in Carey. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Paul Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. George Ritzler

SYCAMORE - George E. Ritzler, Bloomville, died at 5:37 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the Bucyrus Community Hospital. He was 84. Born in Columbus on Dec. 29, 1918, he was a son of Edward and Myrtle (Westerman) Ritzler. He married Donna C. Shupp on June 21, 1942. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Tom, Bloomville; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Wesley Ritzler; and two brothers, Paul, Phoenix, Ariz.; and David, Nevada. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Hunsicker. Mr. Ritzler was the owner and operator of Ritzler Trucking Co. He also was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of B.P.O.E. No. 156 in Bucyrus. Mr. Ritzler enjoyed watching stock car races at the Attica Raceway and was a Sycamore softball fan. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Kevin Rothaar officiating. Burial will be in Brokensword Cemetery. Eva Roberts

Eva Jennings Roberts, formerly of Nevada and more recently of Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community, died at Fairhaven at 4:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003. She was 84. Born in Rowan County, Ky., on Oct. 23, 1918, she was a daughter of Van and Mary (Mann) Workman. She married Willie Jennings on March 14, 1936, in Rowan County. He died. She later married Eddie Roberts in 1967, in Morehead, Ky. He also preceded her in death. Surviving are five daughters, Faye Double, Toledo; Edna Giles, Carey; M. Carol Pennington, Lexington, Ky.; Anna Casto, Nevada; and Mary Danals, Nevada; three sons, Everett Jennings, Belleview, Fla.; Bill Jennings, Pine Bluff, Ark.; and Perry Jennings, Nevada; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Elizabeth Hayes, Cincinnati; Isa Caskey and Phylis Ingram, both of Shelby; and Marie Jones, Morehead; and two brothers, Cecil Workman, Shelby; and George Workman, Morehead. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Jennings; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil and William Workman; and three sisters, Hazel Bays, Geneva Simpson and Clarice Workman. Mrs. Roberts retired from A.O. Smith in 1980. Before moving to Ohio in 1969, she worked at the Cowden Sewing Factory in Morehead for 16 years. She was a member of the Calvary Bible Baptist Church in Marion. Mrs. Roberts enjoyed spending time with family and friends, vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, cooking and reading. The funeral will be at Calvary Bible Baptist Church on Linn-Hipsher Road in Marion, at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Floyd Radebaugh officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery. George Davis

George R. "Bob" Davis, formerly of Columbus and Indian Lake, and more recently of Upper Sandusky, died at the age of 81 on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at 8:30 p.m. at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community. A son of Harry Denzel and Edna (Blosser) Davis, he was born in Columbus on Aug. 17, 1922. He married Marilyn "Dodie" Linville in 1943, in Greenup, Ky. She died June 19, 1979. He and Elouise Schindler Huffman were married on April 19, 1980, in Upper Sandusky. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert Dan, Columbus; a daughter, Sue "Pooch" Davis, Indian Lake; a stepson, David Huffman, Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren, John and David Davis; five stepgrandchildren, Rebecca Bosley, Julie Hawkins, Lorie Koehler, Jeff Huffman and Lisa Huffman; two great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, William, Columbus. A 1941 graduate of West High School in Columbus, Mr. Davis was a tool and die maker, having worked for Westinghouse in Columbus for many years. After that, he was an activity therapist for Lima State Hospital. He attended First Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky. Mr. Davis was a member of AMVETS Post No. 777, Moose Lodge No. 1093 and BPOE No. 83, all in Upper Sandusky, and the Eagles Lodge in Indian Lake. He enjoyed traveling, socializing and watching Ohio State football. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home with the Rev. Julianne D. Smith officiating. Graveside services will be held in Huntsville Cemetery on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Steward officiating. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Roy Kibler

SYCAMORE - Roy Junior Kibler, 68, Bloomville, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at the Bucyrus Community Hospital. Born in Lykens on June 10, 1935, he was a son of Clement and Mabel (Miller) Kibler. He married Betty Smith Pennock on March 14, 1964. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Chris Pennock, Annville, Ky.; and Richard Pennock, rural Sycamore; four daughters, Dixie Shumway, Aurora, Ind.; Patricia Mitender, Anchorage, Alaska; Tonja Santacruz, Tiro; and Janet Heintzelman, Wayland, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Paul Kibler, Bucyrus; and Al Fay, North Benton. He was preceded in death by three sons, Robert, Phillip and William Pennock; two grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Kibler. A 1953 graduate of Lykens High School, Mr. Kibler was working at R.S. Hanline Co. in Shelby as a tow motor operator. He farmed and owned Kibby's Garage in Chatfield, and was a former owner and operator of Kibler Trucking. He also retired from Swan Rubber Co. in Bucyrus, after 43 years. Mr. Kibler was a member of the Baseline United Church of Christ. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Kibler also enjoyed cutting wood and tinkering with things. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Keith DuVernay officiating. Burial will be in Baseline Cemetery, Crawford County. Michael Davidson

FOREST - Michael A. Davidson, 306 Smith St., Forest, died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003. He was 23. Born in Findlay on July 9, 1980, he was a son of Edward A. and Denise (McQuiston) Davidson. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Lisa Davidson, in Forest; his mother in Findlay; two half brothers, Lucas and Dylan Davidson, Forest; paternal grandmother, Edith Davidson, Forest; maternal grandfather, Robert McQuiston, Kenton; paternal stepgrandparents, George and Pat Miller, Forest; and his paternal great-grandparents and his maternal great-grandmother. A 1998 graduate of Riverdale High School, Mr. Davidson was retired from the U.S. Navy. He attended First Baptist Church of Forest. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Shields Funeral Home in Forest, with the Rev. Michael Hannah officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery, Forest, where military graveside rites will be conducted by McVitty VFW Post No. 1182 and American Legion Post No. 259, both of Forest. Mary Ellen Horn

Mary Ellen Horn of Harpster died at 7:55 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Wyandot Manor Nursing Home. She was 85. Born in Pitt Township on Sept. 12, 1918, she was a daughter of Victor LeRoy "Bud" and Aleeta Belle (Miller) Cottrell. She and Howard A. Horn were married on April 26, 1941, in Findlay. He died Oct. 7, 1996. Surviving are two sons, Michael, Upper Sandusky; and Steven, Huntsville; four daughters, Jeanne Wood, Marion; Wanda Gray, LaRue; Rose Marie Kelly, Tiffin; and Ruth Brewer, Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Emily, Meghan and Rachel Horn, Eric Horn, Carmen Kelly and John, Sarah and Cody Woodcock; four great-grandchidlren; and a sister, Iva Mae Sanderson, Upper Sandusky. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Garry Bailey; two brothers, Dwight and Chester Cottrell; and a sister, Emma Sweigard. A 1937 graduate of Harpster High School, Mrs. Horn worked as a nurse's aid at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for more than 29 years. She also was the postmaster in Harpster for a few years and was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of Harpster United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and helped in the kitchen for various functions. Mrs. Horn also was a member of the United Methodist Women, and helped with Vacation Bible School in the summer. Mrs. Horn enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening, cooking and baking, spending time with her family, all sports and was a fan of Ohio State, the Cincinnati Reds and the Upper Sandusky Rams. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harpster United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Rohrer officiating. Burial will be in Little Sandusky Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home, and for an hour prior to the service at the church. Marie Shuster

LARUE - Marie Katherine Shuster, 94, of LaRue, died at her home at 4:50 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003. Born on Dec. 12, 1908, in Union County, she was a daughter of Ira and Icy (Hall) Kale. On Dec. 12, 1931, she married Milford Shuster. He died Dec. 24, 1992. Surviving are a son, Armond, Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Nancy Rowe, Kenton; five grandchildren, Rhonda Rowe, Becky Kibler, Rosie Rowe, Kevin Shuster and Karen Murphy; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Debra Laubert and Robin Shuster; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Elmer, Foster and Ernest Kale; and two sisters, Ethel Born and Lucille White. Mrs. Shuster was a homemaker and a member of Marseilles United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Moose Lodge No. 448 in Marion. The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stofcheck Funeral Home in LaRue, with the Rev. Joanne A. Powers officiating. Burial will be in LaRue Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Hardin County Hospice or the activity fund of the Kenton Nursing and Rehab Center.

Charlotte Graw

Charlotte A. "Oma" Graw, formerly of Fostoria and a resident of Upper Sandusky for the past five years, died at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003. She was 92. Born in Hermsdorf, Germany, on Dec. 11, 1910, she was a daughter of Oscar and Emma Lindner. She married Erich Graw in West Berlin, Germany, on March 11, 1933. He died March 26, 1974. Surviving are two daughters, Gisela Hunt, Upper Sandusky; and Hildegard Cramer, Fostoria; a son, Manfred, Fostoria; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters in Germany. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Mrs. Graw was a homemaker and did housekeeping in Fostoria, where she lived since 1955. She enjoyed flower gardening and sewing. The funeral will be private and there is no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Angeline Endowment Fund, the Reese Stansbery Medical Expense Fund or the organization of the donor's choice in care of Lucas Funeral Home, PO Box 207, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Joyce Sanford

Joyce E. Sanford, 6695 CH 61, Upper Sandusky, died at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003. She was 69. Born on March 6, 1934, in Nevada, she was a daughter of Leo Reed and Evelyn E. (Campbell) Reed-Stauffer. She and Melvin C. Sanford were married in Berlin on June 20, 1982. He survives. Also surviving are four sons, Jerry Snodgrass, Findlay; Shawn Snodgrass, Warsaw; and Scott Ogg and Dean Sanford, Upper Sandusky; two daughters, Cheryl Kiess, Bucyrus; Dana Thomas, Fostoria; 15 grandchildren, Brian Kiess, Katheryn Snodgrass, Mark Snodgrass, Joshua Balduf, Hannah Thomas, Pace Thomas, Shyla Snodgrass, Callie Snodgrass, Casey Snodgrass, Tanner Snodgrass, Alec Ogg, Ryan Daniels, Kim Lynch, Christopher Lynch and Valerie Lynch; and two brothers, Vaughn Reed, Upper Sandusky; and Donald Reed, Bucyrus. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Reed. A graduate of Nevada High School, Mrs. Sanford was a dispatcher for the Upper Sandusky Police Department for 16 years. She also was a homemaker. She attended John Stewart United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sanford enjoyed flower gardening, collecting antiques, spending time with her family and traveling, especially to Amish country. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Steward and Cathy Wirth officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Kim Thiel

FINDLAY - Kim A. Thiel, 46, of Findlay, died at his residence Saturday, Oct. 19, 2003. He was born on Dec. 20, 1956, in Upper Sandusky, to Russell F. Sr. and Cherril I. (Rizor) Thiel. His father survives in Findlay. Also surviving are two brothers, Russell F. Jr. and Darl, both of Findlay; a half-sister, Patsy Speck, Kentucky; and a long-time companion, Patricia Grayson, Findlay. Mr. Thiel was self-employed in carpentry, and worked on remodeling homes. He was a member of UCO in Findlay, and enjoyed camping and being outdoors. Visitation is today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Routson Funeral Chapel, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay. There will be no funeral service and burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.

Robert Elsmore Jr.

Robert Elsmore Jr., 10488 TH 132, Nevada, died at 5:13 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at his home. He was 53. Born in Barberton on Dec. 10, 1949, he was a son of Robert Sr. and Lucille M. (Jones) Elsmore. He married Rebecca J. Cottingham on Aug. 29, 1971. She died Feb. 25, 1983. He and Judith A. Bauer were married Sept. 1, 1984. She survives. Surviving are two daughters, Brianna, Columbus; and Abby at home; a son, James, Marysville; two brothers, James, Massillon; and Gary, Broadview Heights; a sister, Kathleen Brasko, Willard; three nephews and a niece. A 1967 graduate of Barberton High School, Mr. Elsmore attended Bowling Green State University and received his bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Akron in 1972. In 1988, he earned his master's in education degree from Ashland College. Mr. Elsmore worked for Seiberling Tire Co. in Barberton during college, and started his education career in Upper Sandusky as a sixth-grade teacher at East Elementary School. In 1988, he became head teacher and a fifth-grade teacher at Union Elementary, and in 1989, he became principal at Harpster and Marseilles elementary schools. In 1991, he was principal of South Elementary School and was appointed director of transportation. Mr. Elsmore was superintendent of Upper Sandusky schools from 1999 until his retirement in August 2003. He also worked at Schmidt Machine Co. during the summer. A former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mr. Elsmore had served on the church council. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church. Mr. Elsmore was a member and officer of the Upper Sandusky Education Association and a member of the Ohio Education Association. He was a founding board member of the Northwest Ohio Education Association Credit Union and was a board member of the Wyandot County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Mr. Elsmore also was a member of the Rotary Club of Upper Sandusky, a member and former chairman of the Wyandot County Family and Children First Council and coached and assisted with various youth athletic programs. He enjoyed building street rod cars, going to car shows and drag strip racing, and was a member of the former Rod and Relic Car Club of Wyandot County and of the Rod N Tiques Car Club in Mount Gilead. In 1978, Mr. Elsmore won the Street Rod National Event Competition. He enjoyed watching sporting competitions, especially those in which his children participated, doing wood and metal work, walking, jogging, his family's Old English sheep dog Wilson and going on family vacations. The funeral will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church with the Rev. Derik Hines officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Robert Elsmore Scholarship Fund or the Upper Sandusky Athletic Boosters in care of Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.
