Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

Laura Mija

Laura A. Mija, formerly of Canton and more recently of Hilliard, died at 5:50 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2003, at Willow Brook Christian Home in Worthington. She was 85. Born in Negaunee, Mich., on June 29, 117, she was a daughter of Matt and Anna (Jantti) Oikari. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hood, Worth-ington; and Cathleen Davis, Brewster, Mass.; four grandchildren, Emily Burns, Den-ver; Nancy Hood, Albu-querque, N.M.; and Lauren and Colin Davis, both of Brewster; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Klink. A graduate of New Castle High School in New Castle, Pa., Ms. Mija was an office manager for Helfrich Die Casting in North Canton. She attended Zion Lutheran Church in North Canton. Ms. Mija was a member and volunteer with AARP, where she assisted other senior citizens with governmental paperwork. She also was a volunteer with St. Luke's Home in North Canton. Ms. Mija enjoyed raising flowers, cooking and baking, especially cookies and sweet rolls. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Old Mission Cemetery. There is no visitation and Lucas Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made Choices (for domestic violence) in care of Lucas Funeral Home, P.O. 207, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Maurice Tong

CAREY - Maurice E. Tong, Alvada, died in the intensive care unit at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay, at the age of 70, at 9:20 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2003. A son of Winfield and Helen (Wyatt) Tong, he was born in Carey on July 6, 1932. He married Phyllis J. Boyles in Van Wert on Nov. 24, 1954. She died Oct. 11, 2000. Surviving are two sons, Reid, Tazewell, Tenn.; and Ronald, Findlay; five grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Jeremy, Leslie and Danielle Tong; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Keith and Rex Tong, both of Findlay. He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Tong; and a brother, Lynn Tong. In 1995, Mr. Tong retired from United Aircraft Products in Forest. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He attended Trinity Baptist Church in Findlay. Mr. Tong was a member of Biglick Center Grange No. 2224 of rural Alvada, the National Rifle Association, AMVETS No. 21 of Findlay, Carey Blue Lodge No. 420 F&AM, Carey Chapter No. 159 R.A.M., American Legion Post No. 3 of Findlay, Korean War Veterans' Association, the 37th Division Veterans' Association the Buckeye Division, Upper Sandusky Council No. 98 R&SM and Tiffin Commandery No. 9. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Gene Milioni officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Findlay veterans' organizations. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to an organization of the donor's choice in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey OH 43316.

Lester Leeth

Lester Leroy Leeth, 73, died at 6:10 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, where he had resided the past nine years. He formerly lived in Marseilles. The son of Virl and Fannie (Sproul) Leeth, he was born in Waynesfield on April 27, 1929. On July 2, 1947, he married Charlotte Miller in Marseilles. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Larry, Ventura, Calif.; and Dave, Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Joyce, Newport, Ky.; four grandchildren, Angela, Matthew, Kristy and Craig; and two stepgrandchildren, Jody and Evan. Mr. Leeth graduated from Marseilles High School in 1947 and from DeVry Technical School in Chicago, Ill., where he studied electronics. He was an electrical worker for Marion Power Shovel and the Standard Oil Corp., and farmed in Marseilles Township. He was a member of Marseilles Presbyterian Church and of the Eastern Star in Kenton, was an honorary life member of the Marseilles Volunteer Fire Department, was a former member of Marseilles Masonic Lodge and currently of Warpole Lodge 176, F&AM. He enjoyed fishing locally and in Lake Erie, Michigan and Minnesota, hunting squirrels, frogging, playing cards and watching sports. The Rev. Rex Roth will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bringman-Clark & Co. Burial will be in Chandler Cemetery, Mar-seilles. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Marseilles Volunteer Fire Department, Marseilles Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home, PO Box 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Margaret Young

Margaret K. Young, 87, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003, in Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky. Formerly of rural Upper Sandusky, she had been living at the Manor for several years. She was born Sept. 5, 1915, in Crane Township, to Joseph and Emma (Brooks) Weaver. On July 19, 1940, she married Lawrence Young in St. Peter Catholic Church rectory. He died May 30, 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Emily Stewart, Findlay; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Weaver, Upper Sandusky. Preceding her in death were two sons, Neal and Frederick; two sisters, Rita Healy and Alice Hinecker; and a brother, Paul Weaver. A homemaker, Mrs. Young had been a waitress for several area restaurants and had worked at the former Neikirk's 5 & 10 store in Upper Sandusky. She also helped her husband at his gas station and helped with the Young family ice business. A 1935 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, she was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and was a former member of Catholic Ladies of Columbus. Her favorite pastimes were reading, collecting salt and pepper shakers, vegetable and flower gardening, shopping and sewing. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Holmer officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 this evening. Memorials may be made to the St. Peter endowment fund or the Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home, PO Box 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Carmelita Michel

SANDUSKY - Carmelita K. Michel, 82, of Sandusky, died early Monday morning following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Michel is survived by her husband, Ernest; five daughters, including Susan Eier of Upper Sandusky; three sons, 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, at 10 a.m. Thursday. Visitation is Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sisters of Notre Dame, 3837 Secor Road, Toledo OH 43623-4484, or to the organization of the donor's choice.

C. Iber Heilman

KENTON - C. Iber Heilman of Kenton, died at the age of 93 at 12:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Marion General Hospital. Born in Hardin County on Dec. 4, 1909, he was a son of Daniel and Amelia (Stoll) Heilman. He married Katherine Adamson on Dec. 13, 1937. She died Nov. 27, 1998. Surviving are a son, Gary, Kenton; three grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; five brothers; and three sisters. A lifetime Hardin County resident, Mr. Heilman was a retired farmer. He was a member of Marseilles United Methodist Church. Mr. Heilman also was a member of Warpole Lodge 176, F&AM, Latham Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the former Maple Grange. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Pees officiating. Visitation is from 12-2 p.m. Friday at Schindewolf Stevens Stout Funeral Home in Kenton. Memorials may be made to Marseilles United Methodist Church, Hardin Hospice Care or the organization of the donor's choice.

Juanita Shellhouse

SYCAMORE -Juanita M. Shellhouse, 74, of Tiffin, died at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
Born in Tiffin on Oct. 25, 1929, she was a daughter of Louis and Anna (Hamm) Kleinhenz. She and Glen A. Shellhouse were married on Sept. 12, 1948. He died Aug. 9, 1999.
Surviving are a daughter, Janis Weasner, Bloomville; a son, Wayne, Fort Wayne, Ind.; four grandchildren, Trisha Mannick, Jessica Weasner, Matt Weasner and Aaron Shellhouse; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Doris Ricker, Tiffin; a brother, Don Kleinhenz, Tiffin; and a special friend, Jim Wagner, Tiffin.
Mrs. Shellhouse graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School and helped run the family farm and business, Shellhouse Recreation, as a secretary and bookkeeper. She also worked at Sears in Tiffin.
She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Tiffin.
Mrs. Shellhouse served on the Eden Township Election Board in Seneca County as the presiding judge and board member. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club, quilting, embroidering, sewing, doing needle point, cooking, canning and traveling, especially to Miami, Fla., and Colorado. Mrs. Shellhouse also enjoyed visiting friends and relatives, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild and keeping things organized and her home "just so."
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Don Young officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to F.A.C.T. or Harmony United Methodist Church in care of Walton-Moore Funeral Home, 201 W. Saffell Ave., Sycamore OH 44882.

Mabel Schoenberger

Mabel F. Schoenberger, 87, died at 2:35 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Sunrise Place, Worthington. She was formerly of 336 Summit St., Upper Sandusky.
Born in Jackson Township on Jan. 14, 1917, she was a daughter of Roy and Edith (Williams) March. On Dec. 31, 1941, she married Paul Schoenberger in Lima. He died Nov. 8, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Gary of Upper Arlington and Timothy of Dublin; a daughter, Kathy Johnson, Upper Sandusky; six grandchildren, Jason, Scott and Susan Schoenberger; Elizabeth, Andrea and Ashley Johnson; a great-grandson. Preceding her in death were three brothers, Roy, Glenn and John March; and three sisters, Marguerite Wallace, Helen March and Donna Rish.
Mrs. Schoenberger was a 1934 graduate of Forest High School. She was in the first graduating class at Bowling Green State University, where she received her diploma in elementary education in 1936. For nine years she taught grades three and four in Salem Elementary School; then, for 25 years, she was a substitute teacher in Upper Sandusky schools.
A member of North Salem Lutheran Church, she was the financial secretary for the church for 20 years. She served as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Red Cross bloodmobile.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 4 this afternoon and from 6-8 this evening. Memorials may be made to North Salem Lutheran Church, Alzheimer's Association or a charity of the donor's choice in care of Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Sister Marie Therese

FREMONT -Sister Marie Therese, formerly Mary Catherine Regan, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at St. Bernadine Home in Fremont. She was 93.
Born on Aug. 22, 1910, in Lima, she was a daughter of Owen and Anna (Gorman) Regan.
Ten nieces, nephews and cousins survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen "Bill" and Bernard Regan; and a sister, Winifred Banks.
Sister Marie Therese entered the Sisters of Mercy on Sept. 24, 1929, and made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1932. She began her ministry of teaching in 1933 at St. Catherine School in Toledo. She also taught and served as principal in the elementary schools of St. Ann, Fremont; Holy Angels, Sandusky; and St. Peter, Upper Sandusky. In 1959, she taught in Mother of Mercy Academy High School in Fremont, and the following year at McAuley High School in Toledo. There she was the director of the guidance department for 10 years.
In 1970, Sister Marie Therese became resident manager for housing at Regina Manor in the Diocese of Toledo, followed by a position in the pastoral ministry at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Toledo. She then was assigned to the pastoral care department at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. For semi-retirement, Sister Marie Therese returned to St. Ann Catholic Church in Fremont as a pastoral visitor, and in 1989, retired at St. Bernadine Home.
Also during her years in the ministry, she served as supervisor for Sisters of Mercy schools, and was a member of several diocesan groups. She was president of the Diocesan Guidance Council, a member of the Board of the Catholic Better Community Development Corporation on Housing and a member of the steering committee for planning activities for the Toledo Warren-Sherman area.
She earned her bachelor of arts from DeSales College in Toledo and her master's degree from Catholic University of American in Washington, D.C. She continued her education at Mary Manse College in Toledo; Xavier University, Cincinnati; and the University of Toledo.
A Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at St. Bernadine Chapel in Fremont at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, with burial to follow in the convent cemetery. Visitation is at St. Bernadine Home today until 8:30 p.m., and Tuesday until 4:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of Mercy or the organization of the donor's choice.

Richard Baker

Richard F. Baker of rural Upper Sandusky, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community. He was 76.
Born in Wyandot County on June 19, 1928, he was a son of William F. and Clara E. (Ulrich) Baker. He married Norma Rowland on July 17, 1948, in Newport, Ky. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kevin and Kraig, Upper Sandusky; two daughters, Marsha McDonald, Marion; and Lorrie Baker, Columbus; three grandchildren, Fernandá McDonald, Karmá McDonald and Ian Baker; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn; and four sisters, Laura Baker, Luella Swartz, Nellie Miller and Arlene Scribner.
A 1947 graduate of Salem High School, Mr. Baker worked at Claycraft Co. for 37 1/2 years. He also owned and operated Baker's Party Store for many years with his wife. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mr. Baker was a life member and past commander of both American Legion Post No. 225 and VFW Post No. 2842. He was a member of AMVETS Post No. 777 and Upper Sandusky Lions Club, and a former member of Moose Lodge No. 1093, Eagles Club and Sportsmen's Club, all in Upper Sandusky. He enjoyed playing softball and had played for Baker's Party Store, Upper Merchants and Baldrich Tire and Battery. Mr. Baker also enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, tending to his fruit trees and spending time with his grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Steward officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery, where various service organizations will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the organization of the donor's choice in care of Lucas Funeral Home, PO Box 207, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Clayton Stamp

FOSTORIA - Clayton " Curly" Stamp, 80, of Fostoria, died at 3:38 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
Born Feb. 10, 1924, in West Liberty, Ky., he was a son of Will and Amy (Henson) Stamp. He married Hazle Henning on Dec. 16, 1973. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Douglas, Marion; two stepsons, Rick DeGood, Paulding; and Gary DeGood, Tustin, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Denise Lange, Williamston, Mich.; Dee Becker, Okemos, Mich.; and Debbie Reichert, Erie, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean DeRose, Hammonton, N.J. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Drew, Clarence and Roger.
A 1942 graduate of Moore Township High School in Farmer City, Ill., Mr. Stamp retired in 1985 as a millwright from Ohio Farmers/Countrymark in Fostoria after 17 years of work.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Stamp was a life member of Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge, and also was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, AMVETS and United Sportsmen Club, all in Fostoria.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia. Visitation is Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.

Donald Eyestone

WELLINGTON -Donald G. "Don" Eyestone died Friday, July 30, 2004, at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, Lorain, at the age of 68.
A son of Kenneth and Reva (Althouse) Eyestone, he was born in Bucyrus on June 19, 1936. He and his wife, Sally, had been married for 42 years. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kendall Markle, Oxnard, Calif.; and Stefanie Neils, Wellington; two sons, Kent, White Lakes, Mich.; and Steven, Wellington; two granddaughters; two sisters, Shirley Ann Jeffreys, Lexington, Ky.; and Peggy Eyestone, Ashvill, N.C.; and twin brothers, Ronald, Shelby; and William, Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Eyestone moved to Wellington in 1973, and owned and operated a trucking company for more than 24 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Wellington.
Mr. Eyestone enjoyed the Cleveland Indians and Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Eagles Club of Wellington.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 512 N. Main St., Wellington, with the Rev. James Reymann officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. Visitation is Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Norton Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, and at the church for an hour before the Mass.
Memorials may be made to New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain OH 44053.
