John Vogel
FOREST - John A. Vogel, 81, formerly of Wharton and more recently of Longmont, Colo., died at 5 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at his residence. A son of Harley and Vera (Secrist) Vogel, he was born in Mansfield on June 19, 1923. He married Norma Jean Brown on May 10, 1947. She died Oct. 15, 1998. Surviving are a son, Bruce, Longmont; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen Freemyer. Mr. Vogel graduated from Wharton High School in 1941. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in World War II. He also was a retired banker. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 23, at 11 a.m. in Wharton-Richland Union Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Searfoss officiating. McVitty VFW Post No. 1182 and American Legion Post No. 259, both of Forest, will perform military graveside rites. There is no visitation, and Shields Funeral Home in Forest is handling arrangements. Donna Bollinger
Donna "Sue" Bollinger, 12523 CH 110, Upper Sandusky, died at 8 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2004, at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community. She was 64. A daughter of Orville and Wilma (Seifert) Wiles, she was born in Ellery, Ill., on Sept. 8, 1939. She and Stanford "Jerry" Bollinger were married on Feb. 11, 1958, in Evans City, Pa. He died July 11, 1995. Surviving are two sons, Stanford "Butch," Upper Sandusky; and David, Carey; a daughter, Lisa Hamilton, Sidney; four grandchildren; three brothers, Gene Wiles, Oklahoma; Robert Wiles, Nebraska; and Carroll Wiles, Illinois; and a sister, Shirley Tullis, Illinois. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Mrs. Bollinger was a mixologist/waitress at the Pour House for more than 15 years. Before that, she had worked at Roger's Jewelry Store and helped her husband run Vinco Stave and Heading Inc. She also had worked at DiJeans as a sales clerk. She was a member of Women of the Moose Lodge No. 1093. Mrs. Bollinger enjoyed taking pictures of her grandchildren and entertaining her family during the holidays. She enjoyed making pepperoni rolls, flower gardening and collies. Private services will be held at a later date. There will be a memorial luncheon at the Pour House at 2 p.m. Sunday. Marvin Lehman
BLUFFTON - Marvin W. Lehman, 85, of Pandora, died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. Born in Hancock County on Nov. 6, 1918, he was a son of Albert and Pauline (Zimmerly) Lehman. He married Geneva L. Bennett on May 29, 1947. She died March 4, 1997. Surviving are four sons, Richard and Lynn, Pandora; Douglas, Mount Cory; and Byron, Upper Sandusky; two daughters, Nancy Shane, Upper Sandusky; and Christine Cherry, Columbus Grove; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl, Bluffton; and a sister, Anna Ruth Reichenbach, Bluffton. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a brother, Myron; and a sister, Hazel Steiner. A 1936 graduate of Pandora High School, Mr. Lehman was a farmer. He attended St. John Mennonite Church in Pandora, and was a trustee and building chairman. Mr. Lehman had served on the Mennonite Memorial Home Board, belonged to the Ohio Potato Growers Association and sang in the Swiss Male Chorus. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John Mennonite Church with the Revs. Rennie Burrus, Richard Tschetter and Chaplain William Herr officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pandora. Visitation is today from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Chiles Sons-Laman Funeral Homes in Bluffton. FOREST - Mary Jane Bliss, formerly of Forest and Leipsic and more recently of Clearwater, Fla., died at her residence at 6:08 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004. She was 83. Arrangements are pending at Shields Funeral Home in Forest.
Ivan Chance
NEVADA - Ivan "Hap" L. Chance, 82, of Township Highway 52, Nevada, died in the emergency room of Bu-cyrus Community Hospital on Wednesday, July 14, 2004. A son of Les and Eva (Stover) Chance, he was born in Nevada on Sept. 19, 1921. Two friends, Alan Kuenzli of Nevada, and Verl Markley of Bucyrus, survive. He was preceded in death by a brother. A 1939 graduate of Nevada High School, Mr. Chance at one time drove truck and worked for Kuenzli Quarry in Upper Sandusky, and Swan Rubber in Bucyrus. He attended Nevada United Methodist Church. Mr. Chance enjoyed baseball, country music and at one time was a caller for square dances. The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Nevada, with the Rev. Rick Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Oceola Cemetery. Visitation is for an hour before the service at the funeral home. Oliver Schultz
Owned and operated hardware store in Upper for 33 years
Oliver E. Schultz of West Crawford Street, Upper Sandusky, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 92. Born in Caledonia, Mich., on Sept. 22, 1911, he was a son of Wilhelm and Louise (Meyer) Schultz. He married Sylvia J. Gargulak on April 21, 1934. She died March 17, 2000. Surviving are a daughter, Marla Farber, Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren, Greg Logsdon, San Francisco; and Steve Farber, Houston; and a special friend, Ellen Emptage, Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Amos and John "Jack" Schultz; and three sisters, Minnie Rensland, Eleanor Dettman and Esther Dauchey. Mr. Schultz, along with his wife, owned and operated Schultz's Hardware in Upper Sandusky for 33 years. After selling the business, he operated Schultz Water Conditioning. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Mr. Schultz was a former member of Good Sam and the Marion camping clubs, and was a member of Warpole Lodge No. 176 F&AM. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to Lawrence Welk. Mr. Schultz and his wife had enjoyed camping since the early 1950s, and had a trailer at Lake Huron. After retiring, they traveled more than 300,000 miles, having visited nearly all of 50 states and throughout Canada. At the age of 81, they took their first international flight to London, England. The funeral will be Saturday at 12 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Timothy Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Clolata Kear
TROY - Clolata A. Kear, formerly of Troy and Sycamore and more recently of Cridersville, died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at St. Rita's Hospital in Lima. She was 88. Born in Fort Jefferson on Sept. 14, 1915, she was a daughter of Joseph E. and Avis B. (Hamer) Turner. She and the Rev. Herman F. Kear had been married for 65 years. He survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Betty Collins, Kenton; two sons, Robert, Bloomington, Ind.; and James, Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren, Robin Hughes, Renee Dunahue, Ryan Collins, Rodney Collins, Rick Collins, Russell Collins, Kelly Clark, Jason Kear and Nathan Kear; nine great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and a brother, Wallis Turner, San Diego, Calif. A 1933 graduate of Wharton High School, Mrs. Kear received her bachelor of arts in education from Bowling Green State University in 1970. She had been a beautician, educator and a secretary in both schools and businesses. Mrs. Kear was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Troy, and of its United Methodist Women. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Troy, with the Revs. James Wilson and Rick Adams officiating. Burial and graveside services will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, at 2 p.m. Monday. Visitation is at Baird Funeral Home in Troy from 3-6 p.m. Sunday. Richard Baum
CAREY - Richard L. Baum, Vanlue, died at the age of 69 at 11:10 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, at Birchaven Retirement Village in Findlay. A son of William and Bessie (Snyder) Baum, he was born in Findlay on Feb. 4, 1935. He married Jane M. Barger on Nov. 17, 1956. She died Oct. 1, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Jeff, Carey; and Steven, Vanlue; a daughter, Kelley Hutton, Vanlue; four grandchildren, Caleb, Sierra, Jasci and Jesci; four stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Robert, Vanlue; and Donald, Pigeon Forge, Tenn. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick; and two sisters, Mildred Monday and Nellie Walters. Mr. Baum was a mechanic for more than 40 years. He attended Christ United Methodist Church in Vanlue. Mr. Baum served on the Vanlue Volunteer Fire Department and the Vanlue Village Council. He was a past president of the Vanlue Community Organization, a former caretaker of the park and Amanda Township, and a former Vanlue marshal. The funeral was today at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. Lori Strang officiating. Burial was in Zion Bloom Cemetery, Vanlue. Orletha Hartschuh
SYCAMORE - Orletha E. Hartschuh, formerly of Bloomville and more recently of Maplecrest Assisted Living in Bucyrus, died at the facility at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004. She was 93. Born in Holmes Township in Crawford County on May 13, 1911, she was a daughter of Edward C. and Lizzie (Ross) Fralick. She married Dale L.J. Hartschuh on June 20, 1937. He died Nov. 13, 1991. She is survived by many cousins and a sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Fralick. A 1929 graduate of Lykens High School, Mrs. Hartschuh earned her bachelor of arts degree in secondary education from Heidelberg College in 1933. She taught in the Lykens School District for several years. After her marriage, she continued to do substitute teaching in area schools. Mrs. Hartschuh was a member of St. JohnÕs United Church of Christ Baseline Road Church, and was the first Junior Sunday School superintendent at Baseline United Church of Christ. She held that position for 20 years. She also taught Sunday school, and was a member of the churchÕs WomenÕs Guild and of the building committee for the present church built in 1952. Mrs. Hartschuh was a 60-plus-year member of the Lykens Ladies Community Club. She was past president of the East Indian Lake Regional Guild of the former Evangelical and Reformed denomination. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. JohnÕs United Church of Christ Baseline Road Church, with the Rev. Randy Ross officiating. Burial will be in Baseline St. JohnÕs Cemetery. Visitation is today from 4-6 p.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Roger Moll
CAREY - Roger Lee Moll, 66, of Bucyrus, died in the emergency room of Bucyrus Community Hospital at 7:12 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004. A son of Frederick J. and Loia (Sizemore) Moll, he was born in Wyandot County on Nov. 13, 1937. He married Rose Stansberry in 1957, and they later divorced. He and Mary A. Gaster were married in 1973. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Ray, Edmonton, Okla.; two stepsons, Stephen Yingling, Baroda, Mich.; and Daniel Yingling, DeWitt, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Cheryl Bakies, Findlay; Sandra Kerr, Mesa, Ariz.; and Karen Phillips, Carey; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Riley Moll, North Fort Myers, Fla.; and Michael Moll, Myakka City, Fla.; and a sister, Shirley Pritchard, Bucyrus. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Glen Moll; and a sister, Rebecca Moll. Mr. Moll served in the U.S. Army in France from 1955-57. He was owner and operator of R&M Trucking, and also was a former lineman for Ohio Power. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bucyrus. Mr. Moll was a member of the Central Ohio Draft Horse Association. He enjoyed horses, trucks and NASCAR. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Regis Schlagheck officiating. Burial will be in St. MaryÕs Cemetery, Carey, where full military graveside rites will be observed. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Scripture service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Rebecca Stetzy
TIFFIN - Rebecca Rose Stetzy, 54, of New Riegel, died at 12:53 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at The Cleveland Clinic. Born in Tiffin on Nov. 1, 1949, she was a daughter of Nicholas and Levone (Schwab) Heil. She married Joseph Stetzy on May 18, 1974 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin. He survives. Also surviving are her father and stepmother, Nicholas and Betty Heil, Tiffin; a daughter, Amanda Stetzy, Tiffin; two brothers, Steve Heil, Tiffin; and Todd Heil, Upper Sandusky; three stepsisters, Becky Troiano, Cincinnati; Kim Nedolas, Bascom; and Dana Bentz, Tiffin; and a stepbrother, David Renninger, Tiffin. She was preceded in death by her mother. Mrs. Stetzy graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1968 and from Ohio State University in 1972. She worked toward her masterÕs degree at Case Western Reserve University. In her later years, she received her bachelorÕs degree in education from Bowling Green State University. Mrs. Stetzy was a staff supervisor at the School of Opportunity in Tiffin. She attended St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, Tiffin, with the Rev. Ron Schock officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Melmore. Berton Zimmerman
Berton B. Zimmerman of Bucyrus, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Bucyrus Community Hospital. He was 92. Born in Upper Sandusky on July 20, 1912, he was a son of Wellington and Georgia ŌBertieĶ (Brown) Zimmerman. He married Mary Louise Paul in Catlettsburg, Ky., on June 8, 1934. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Peter, Bellefontaine; a foster son, Henry Schuster, Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren, Adam and Paula Zimmerman; five foster grandchildren, Christine Tredway, Sue Wise and Steve, Robin and James Schuster; a great-grandson; and a brother, Lewis, Delaware. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Mr. Zimmerman retired from farming in Crawford County in 1988. He also had a taxidermist business for 20 years. He was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky. Mr. Zimmerman was a life member of the NRA and a charter member of the Whitington Center in Raton, N.M. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, trapping and fishing, playing softball, hunting mushrooms, completing crossword puzzles and watching nature shows and reruns of ŌThe WaltonsĶ on television. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Elsholz officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 12-1 p.m. Thursday. Robert Blough
DESHLER - Robert J. Blough, 82, of Bluffton, died at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004.
A son of Samuel J. and Ruth (Horner) Blough, he was born in Middlebury, Ind., on April 21, 1922. He married Celia Amstutz on June 9, 1946, in Salem Mennonite Church in Kidron. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Laurie Miller, Goshen, Ind.; two sons, Neal, France; and Keith, Hilliard; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Leslie; and two brothers, Ernest and Kenneth.
Dr. Blough graduated from Bluffton College in 1947, and from Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia, in 1952. He was Deshler's family doctor from 1953-2000. He also was Henry County's coroner from 1992-2000. While at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green, he was known to deliver some babies via hypnosis before Lamaze was practiced.
Dr. Blough was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Deshler, where he had been a church elder and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Bluffton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and had been stationed in Indochina. Dr. Blough learned to fly a private plane, and was a member of BASHA in Toledo.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery in Kidron. Visitation is at Hanneman Funeral Home in Deshler on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. There also will be visitation at First Mennon-ite Church in Bluffton on Sunday from 3-6 p.m.

Todd Peppard
BUCYRUS - Todd A."Big Daddy" Peppard, 43, of Bucyrus, died at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Ohio State University Medical Center.
Born in Bucyrus on March 17, 1961, he was a son of Karen (Schwartzkopf) Peppard, who survives in Bucyrus.
Also surviving are a daughter, Harlee Peppard; grandparents, Ray and Evelyn Schwartzkopf, Nevada; a brother, Matt, Grove City; an aunt, uncle, three nieces, three nephews, two cousins, and his girlfriend, Brandi Coleman.
Mr. Peppard attended Bucyrus High School. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, nature, the outdoors and spending time with his family.
The funeral will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, with the Rev. Bernie France officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Albert Greene
AVON - Albert J. Greene of Avon, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Avon, at the age of 86.
Born in Cleveland on June 15, 1918, he was a son of Alex and Augusta (Oswald) Greene. He married Ruth Reffert, and they were married for 64 years. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Karen Matzelle, Cleveland; Kathy Greene, Avon; and Karla Thornton (Kelly Greene), Upper Sandusky; a son, Kenneth, Medina; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Greene, Bedford; and a sister, Lois Saponare, Brunswick.
Mr. Greene was a sheet metal worker for Union Local No. 33 in Cleveland for 50 years. He lived in Avon for 54 years, moving from Cleveland.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Avon, and of its Holy Name Society.
Mr. Greene was a member of VFW Post No. 7035 in Avon. He was a volunteer firefighter for Avon for 15 years, and enjoyed camping.
Visitation is today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Road, Avon. Closing prayers will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. John Misenko officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Detroit Road, Avon.
