Crystal Bayes
Crystal Renee Bayes, 13910 CH 53, Upper Sandusky, died at her residence at 4:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004. She was 21.
Born in Findlay on May 1, 1983, she was a daughter of Christopher J. Bayes and Christina M. Underwood.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Marvin Frey, Upper Sandusky; father in Fostoria; paternal grandmother, Sandra Bayes, Chilhowie, Va.; maternal grand-mother, Rita Underwood, Carey; stepgrandmother, Ruby Frey, Kirby; two stepsisters, Leslie Frey, Kirby; and Crystal Frey, Upper Sandusky; and a niece.
Miss Bayes graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 2004, and was employed by Angeline Industries.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kirby.
Miss Bayes enjoyed Scooby-Doo, Walt Disney videos, arts and crafts, teddy bears, Beannie Babies and visiting Sea World, especially the whales. She enjoyed listening to country music, putting together scrapbook pictures of her family and dog, Ralph, writing letters to friends and family, making her own greeting cards and singing karaoke. Miss Bayes enjoyed eating shrimp at Red Lobster and putting ketchup on just about everything she ate. She also collected writing pens.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home today from 3-8 p.m., with a prayer service being held at 7:45 p.m.

Jon Boden
Jon A. “Studley” Boden, 48 of 509 W. Sandusky St., Wharton, died at 5:01 p.m. at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Aug. 3, 1956, in Findlay, he was a son of Carl L. Boden and Roberta Ann Tong, who both survive. He married Patty J. Benner on Jan. 18, 1975, in Wharton, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Bob, Wharton; a daughter Amy Fredritz, Carey; seven grandchildren, Chase, Jenna, Toni, Tyra, Thane, Brody and Ross; two brothers, Bill, Wharton; and Tim, Fostoria; and a sister Nancy Grubbs, Wharton.
Mr. Boden was the owner/operator of Boden’s Garage in Wharton from 1974-2002.
For seven consecutive years, Mr. Boden was the National Champion of the Ohio State Tractor Pulling Association in the 4x4 truck class. His family was “Family of the Year” in 2002 for the OSTPA and was inducted into the OSTPA Hall of Fame in 2002. Mr. Boden also pulled throughout the United States, and was a member of the National Tractor Pulling Association.
The funeral will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Wharton-Richland Union Cemetery, Wharton. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mary Green
FOREST - Mary E. Green, 507 Sandusky Ave., Forest, died at 7:38 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at the Kenton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 76.
Born in Wyandot County on April 18, 1928, she was a daughter of Harry S. “Sal” and Lucille M. (Bell) Johnson. On May 25, 1946, she married Robert J. Green. He died Aug. 19, 1992.
Surviving are six daughters, Peggy Ferrell, Lynchburg, Va.; Juanita Navarro, Austin, Texas; Beth Ann Mathis, West Plains, Mo.; Cheryl Hackathorn, Kenton; Terri Touchette, Estero, Fla.; and Tammy Camper, Forest; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five brothers, Jim Johnson, Milford Center; Gene Johnson, Dunkirk; Phil Johnson, Senecaville; Larry Johnson, Forest; and Mike Johnson, Mount Blanchard; and an uncle. She was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and David Green; a brother, Robert Johnson; and a sister, Etta Bell Johnson.
Mrs. Green was a Head Start teacher for 22 years.
Mrs. Green was a member of the former Rebekah Lodge No. 363 in Forest, and life member of McVitty VFW Post No. 1182 Auxiliary in Forest. She loved to read, crochet and travel.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Shields Funeral Home in Forest, with the Rev. Rose Marie Michael officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery, Forest. Visitation is at the funeral home Thursday from 2-8 p.m.

Rev. James Shrider
ARLINGTON - The Rev. James O. Shrider died at 3:43 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. He was 69.
Born on Dec. 20, 1934, in McGuffey, he was a son of John and Ada (Clapan) Shrider, and was raised by his father and stepmother, Daisy Shrider. On Dec. 27, 1953, he married Dolores E. Lazenby at the First Church of the Nazarene, Findlay. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Wesley, Mount Blanchard; and Kevin, Forest; five grandchildren, Emily, Betsy, Nathan, Stacy and Scott Shrider; and a sister, Mary Ann Duff, Stryker. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Clarence and Gerald; and three sisters, Ruth Fox, Opal Jimerson and Grace Appleman.
Rev. Shrider retired in 2000 after 42 years as a pastor, his last 26 years at the Mount Blanchard Church of the Nazarene. He also was a former pastor in Manhattan, Kan., and Rudolph, Napoleon and Kennard. He had worked at the Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon, and retired from the U.S. Post Office in Arlington. He was a supply pastor to area churches.
Rev. Shrider led a Bible study group at The Good Samaritan Center in Arlington, and was an OhioReads volunteer in the Riverdale Local School District. He used to be associated with the Northwest Ohio Lung Association and Bridge Home Health and Hospice. He was a former board member of the Mount Blanchard Water Works.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Blanchard Church of the Nazarene, with Dr. Larry Fairbanks and the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Mount Blanchard. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Crates Funeral Homes, Arlington, and for one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Catherine Bassler
Catherine L. Bassler of Ohio 53 West, Upper Sandusky, died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She was 71.

J. Craig Bowman
J. Craig Bowman of Harpster, died at 8:58 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. He was 81.

former Upper mayor
J. Craig Bowman, 81, of Harpster, died at 8:58 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
The son of Dr. J. Craig and Lee (Fowler) Bowman, he was born in Upper Sandusky on March 26, 1923. He married Helen Jean Schaumloeffel, who preceded him in death. He married Barbara Eyestone on Nov. 20, 1992, in Fort Wayne, Ind. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Steven, Upper Sandusky; and Kyle, Harpster; a daughter, Beverly Weingart, Seminole, Fla.; two stepsons, David Eyestone, Westerville; and Dean Eyestone, Columbus; seven grandchildren, Michael and Adam Wrzesniewski, Brenna, Chelsea, Trevor and Hannah Bowman, and Laura Bowman; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Bickham, Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by a sister, Katharine Kenan.
A 1941 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mr. Bowman graduated from Kenyon College in 1945 with a degree in pre-medicine. He was the fifth generation to operate the family farm with his sons, was a partner with Bowman Farms and established Hickory Grove Golf Club in 1963. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, having been a fighter pilot.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a former Sunday school teacher, and had attended Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church with his wife, Barbara.
Mr. Bowman was a former Upper Sandusky mayor, having served from 1955-65, and helped establish the Upper Sandusky Municipal Court. He also was a council member. He served on the Wyandot Memorial Hospital board for 34 years, and had been the chairman for the past 15 years. Mr. Bowman was a member of Stone Crossing Golf Club, Warpole Lodge No. 176 Free and Accepted Masons, and at one time had his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed flying throughout the United States, playing golf and following his grandchildren in their various sports.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Revs. David Roach and Kenneth Wessler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is at Lucas Funeral Home on Friday after 2 p.m., with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

James Williams
SYCAMORE - James S. Williams, formerly of 4766 Ohio 231, Sycamore, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 90.
Born in Wyandot County on Sept. 5, 1914, he was a son of Ray and Mary (Bakies) Williams. He married Martha Phillips on Feb. 17, 1936. She died Feb. 20, 1984.
Surviving are two daughters, Geraldine McKinney, Perrysville; and Maxine Kemerley, Vanlue; two sons, Walter, rural Sycamore; and Wayne,Tiffin; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo, Bucyrus; and a sister, Leona Roszman, Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Andrew and Russell; and a sister, Bernice Boyce.
Mr. Williams retired from National Lime and Stone in Bucyrus after 25 years. He also farmed and raised miniature horses.
He attended Deunquat Lutheran Church.
Mr. Williams was a member of the Miniature Horse Association and of the Ohio Wagon Train.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Charles McGlone officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens in Tiffin. Visitation is at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Friday.

Leona Kemerley
CAREY - Leona M. Kemerley of 5131 CH 97, Carey, died at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 77.
A daughter of Harry and Bernice (Newcomer) VanHorn, she was born on May 2, 1927 in rural Alvada. She married Leonard Kemerley on Dec. 18, 1946, at her parents' home. He died Aug. 30, 2004.
Surviving are four children, Alvin Kemerley, Carey; Duane Kemerley, Toledo; Ann LaBolt, Upper Sandusky; and Lee Kemerley, Carey; two granddaughters, Jana and Megan Kemerley; and four sisters, Geneva Brinkman, Findlay; Virginia Wighaman, Mentor; Della Baughman, Vanlue; and Jean Smith, Elliston. She was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Howard; and two brothers, Ralph and Ray VanHorn.
The valedictorian of the Vanlue High School class of 1945, Mrs. Kemerley attended Bowling Green State University. She was a lifelong homemaker and farm wife. Mrs. Kemerley was the receptionist/secretary for Dr. Loren L. Pace when he had an office in Carey, and had worked at McDonald's of Carey since it opened until last April.
She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Carey, and held many offices, including church treasurer, worked in the Sunday school and participated in the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Kemerley was an active parent in the Carey schools, serving as a band mother and other roles, for 30 connsecutive years with her children. She was a member of the Radio Club, an adviser for the Careyettes 4-H Club and a longtime member of the HB Club.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and for an hour before the service at the church Tuesday.

Catherine Bassler
Catherine L. Bassler, 11002 Ohio 53, Upper Sandusky, died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She was 71,
Born in Upper Sandusky on May 11, 1933, she was a daughter of Frank and Ann (Stief) Brooks. She and Donald M. Bassler were married on April 8, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey, Steven and James, all of Upper Sandusky; three grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew and Stephanie; a sister, Arlene Miller, Upper Sandusky; and a brother, Richard Brooks, Marion.
A 1951 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mrs. Bassler had been a bookkeeper at Chief Dairy. She worked on the family farm, was a homemaker and in high school, worked at the five and dime store.
She was a Sunday school teacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church for between 20 and 25 years.
Mrs. Bassler had been president and vice president of the Upper Sandusky Music Parents. She enjoyed cross stitching, making cookies for her grandchildren, vegetable gardening, canning and attending her grandchildren's games and the showing of their animals at the Wyandot County Fair.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Benjamin officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
