Gladia Arnett
CAREY - Gladia A. Arnett of Fostoria, died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria. She was 82.
A daughter of Eugene and Peggy (Alsept) Holbrook, she was born in Salyersville, Ky., on July 5, 1922. She married Brice Arnett on March 23, 1942, in Salyersville. He survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are two daughters, Susie Arnett; and Brenda Elchert, New Riegel; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Henry Holbrook, Portland, Ore.; and John Holbrook, Waterloo. She was preceded in death by a son, Jackie; three sisters, Lenah Faye Holbrook, Alice Ewing and Margaret Harvey; and a brother, Andy Holbrook.
Mrs. Arnett had worked in the dietary department at Fostoria Community Hospital. Before that, she was a laborer at Swan Rubber Co. in Carey, and Copeland Co. in Fostoria.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church in Carey, with the Rev. Brent Layne officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation is at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, and for an hour before the service at the church.

Evelyn Weaver
SYCAMORE - Evelyn J. Weaver, 288 CH 37, Sycamore, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at her residence at the age of 78.
Born on Aug. 2, 1926, in Detroit, she was a daughter of Lionel and Opal (Rothgeb) Phillips. She and Arthur M. Weaver were married on Dec. 9, 1945. He died Sept. 10, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Roma Sayre, Millersville, Pa.; and Sharon Weaver, Galion; two sons, Jerry, Sycamore; and Gary, rural Sycamore; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Croyle, Amanda Peiffer, Tony Weaver, Beth Weaver, Scott Weaver, Nathan Weaver, Aaron Weaver and Ryan Weaver; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Glenna Walton, Tiffin; and Christina Grimes, Barnesville.
A 1944 graduate of Melmore High School, Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker and helped with the family farm. She sold Avon, was a demonstrator for ladies toys parties, was a colorist for the former Boles-Dandurand Studio in Tiffin.
She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, and of its Ladies Aid and Missionary Society.
Mrs. Weaver was a member of the Sycamore Little Theatre and of the former Mohawk Community Orchestra. She was a gardener, enjoyed arts and crafts, played the piano and violin, baked and decorated wedding and birthday cakes and enjoyed spending time with her family.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore with the Rev. Tim Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation is Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Linda Calloway
HARRISVILLE, W.Va. - Linda Ann Calloway, 47, of Harrisville, W.Va., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at her residence.
Born on Dec. 10, 1956, in Grayson, Ky., she was a daughter of Wesley and Eula Keffer, both of whom survive in Grayson.
Also surviving are her husband, Norman; a daughter, Kerry Wilksoner, Tiffin; four stepchildren, Norman Calloway Jr., Morral; Mark Calloway, Findlay; and Crystal and Andy Calloway, Wyoming; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three sisters, Martha Coons and Jossie McGlone, Grayson; and Shalley Keffer, Upper Sandusky; and three brothers, Bruce and John Keffer, Grayson, Ky.; and Steven Keffer, Upper Sandusky.
Mrs. Calloway worked for Simonton Windows in Pennsboro, W.Va.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville is handling arrangements.
Catherine Wright
Catherine M. Wright, 84, formerly of North Seventh Street, Upper Sandusky, died at Country Brook Assisted Living in Toledo, on Friday, Oct. 8, 2004.
Born in Billerica, Mass., on June 17, 1920, she was a daughter of William and Mary (Bedard) Smith. She married Robert E. Wright on Nov. 8, 1947, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky. He died Feb. 16, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Raymond, San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Elaine Maurer, Perrysburg; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur, James and John Smith, Massachusetts; and two sisters, Mildred Turner, Massachusetts; and Margaret Vaylou, Connecticut. She was preceded in death by a son, Brian; a daughter, Cynthia; and five sisters, Louise Webster, Eva Corkum, Elizabeth Melvin, Helen Smith and Virginia Smith.
Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and manager of the former Tri-City Discount Store in Upper Sandusky, from 1966-79. She also had worked at the Hub Hosery in Lowell, Mass.
She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, and a former member of its Rosary Altar Society.
Mrs. Wright enjoyed flowers, walking, sewing, reading and collecting dolls.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, with a biblical Scripture service at 6:30 p.m.

Bessie Cramer
SYCAMORE - Bessie H. Cramer, 2855 TH 136, Sycamore, died at 11:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 84.
Born in Wyandot County on May 31, 1920, she was a daughter of Minor and Arminnie (Clingman) Kirby. She married Frank Cramer on Oct. 30, 1939. He died Nov. 3, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Schumaker, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and Theresa Moore, rural Sycamore; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Minor "Junior" Kirby, rural Sycamore; and two sisters, Esther Sniffen, Sycamore; and Lydia Cocklin, rural Sycamore. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Laura Smith Kirby; a grandson, Franklin Allen; and a brother, Noble "Andy" Kirby.
Mrs. Cramer was a homemaker and had a lifetime of farming.
She was a lifetime member of Sycamore United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Cramer enjoyed gardening, country music, spending time with her family, especially grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and being a friend to many people.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold Voorhees
Harold “Tony” Voorhees, 7328 Ohio 53 North, Upper Sandusky, died at his residence at 2:12 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004. He was 55.
Born in Detroit on Oct. 9, 1949, he was the son of Harold and Ellen (Tuttle) Voorhees. He married Debra Kay Mulvain in Bucyrus on Jan. 16, 1971. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother in Upper Sandusky; three sons, Bryan, Jerod and Joseph, all of Upper Sandusky; five grandchildren, Kayla, Blayne, Chloe, Hope and Quinten; and a sister, Etta Dilley, Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Chapman.
A 1968 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mr. Voorhees had been employed at Lite Star Oil, V&C Construction, McCarthy Stone Quarry, Pro-Terra Environment and most recently National Lime and Stone Co.
He was a member of Community Christian Center.
Mr. Voorhees was a member of Moose Lodge No. 1093, and had served as governor and past governor, and had been a den leader of Cub Scouts Pack 115, a little league and pony league baseball coach and filmed midget league football games for the coaches. He played softball for Bowen Implement, winning several tournaments, and bowled in several leagues.
Mr. Voorhees enjoyed vegetable gardening, lawn work and caring for his fish pond, was an avid Republican, listening to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, and was a co-founder of Wordcovers, a ministry for the homeless. He was a Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and NASCAR's Dale Jarrett and Mark Martin fan. He enjoyed fishing, playing Frisbee with his dog, spending time with his family and friends and spoiling his grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Jack V. Brown
Jack V. Brown, 74, of South Warpole Street, Upper Sandusky, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
Born in Upper Sandusky on Dec. 22, 1929, he was a son of Voyle and Kathryn (Kirby) Brown. He and Ida May Lodge were married in Liberty, Ind., on March 27, 1954. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jack II, Upper Sandusky; four daughters, Jennie Margison, Kay Swartz and Jill Barnett, Upper Sandusky; and Kathy Holcomb, Kenton; 11 grandchildren, Marlee Margison, Jacob Margison, Cody Margison, Matthew Holcomb, Kurtly Holcomb, Donnie Swartz, Ben Swartz, Keith Swartz, Katey Swartz, Mindy Barnett and Jessi Barnett; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Sue Adkins, Upper Sandusky; and a brother, Paul Brown, Bucyrus. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Brown.
Mr. Brown graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1947, where he had been a center and kicker on the football team. He worked at Claycraft Co. in Upper Sandusky for 37 years, and then for Rebs Manufacturing in Carey until retiring.
In his early years, Mr. Brown worked for the Chief Dairy in Upper Sandusky, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War.
He was a member of John Stewart United Methodist Church.
Mr. Brown enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, going to car shows, watching Ohio State and USHS football, motorcycles, especially his 36 Harley-Davidson “knuckle head,” and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial will be in Salem Church Cemetery, east of Upper Sandusky, where military graveside rites will be conducted by local service organizations.
Visitation is Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth Burson
FOREST - Ruth Elizabeth Burson, Mount Blanchard, died at her residence at 12:56 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at the age of 90.
Born in Hancock County on Dec. 2, 1913, she was a daughter of Dillon and Mary Elizabeth (Cummingham) Burson.
Surviving are a sister, Devita Burson, Mount Blanchard; and a number of nieces and nephews, Albert Bibler, Norman, Okla.; Marilyn Lafer, Fort Apache, Ariz.; Kenneth Phillips, Upper Sandusky; Darrel Sloop, Everett, Wash.; Carolyn Webb, Forest; Vivian Frey, Upper Sandusky; Leota Plank, Forest; LeDonna LeValley, Forest; Mary Ellen Keeler, Defuniak Springs, Fla.; and Janice Pool, Moscow, Ind. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Burson; four sisters, Alma Cooper, Mae Phillips, Vergie Bibler and Golda Sloop; a half brother, Troy Burson; and two nieces, Norma Jean Buchanan and Mary Viola Phillips.
Ms. Burson graduated from Mount Blanchard High School in 1932. She retired after 33 years at the Triplett Corp. in Bluffton.
Ms. Burson enjoyed working in her flower beds.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shields Funeral Home in Forest, with the Rev. Karen Fourman officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Mount Blanchard. Visitation is Saturday from 2-5 p.m.

Esther Thiel
Esther M. Thiel, formerly of 541 Cavanaugh Court, Upper Sandusky, and more recently a resident at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community, died at Fairhaven at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004. She was 98.
Born in Wyandot County on March 21, 1906, she was the daughter of John J. and Elizabeth (Bentz) Thomas. She and Howard J. Thiel were married on Oct. 19, 1935, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky. He died July 24, 1985.
Surviving are three daughters, Roberta Stahl, Bradner; Sandra Robinson, Tucson, Ariz.; and Julia Strauss, San Rafael, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Earl, Ralph, Norman, Virgil, Adelbart and David Thomas.
Mrs. Thiel was a bookkeeper and employed at Daybrook Hydraulic for about 13 years, beginning in 1951, and later at Commercial Savings Bank. She retired in 1976.
She was a life member of St. Peter Catholic Church, where she was involved in various ministries.
Mrs. Thiel was a Eucharistic minister and for a time, had a special ministry to shut-ins in rural areas. She was involved in CCD for two years, and helped with the RCIA program for five or six years.
She and her husband brought their worshipping community a program called Christ Renews His Parish, and during the years that followed, eight retreat-type weekends were held. Mrs. Thiel also was involved in the Cursillo Movement in the Catholic church, and served for several years as communications chairwoman in the Toledo Diocese.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. A biblical wake will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m.
