Jerry Risner
CAREY - Jerry G. Risner, 73, of Findlay, died at 2:27 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay.
A son of Sam and Gladys (Stone) Risner, he was born in Wyandot County on Jan. 29, 1931. He and Peggy J. Bland were married in McCutchenville on April 8, 1951. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Pamela Taylor, Cincinnati; Karen Miller and Angela Risner, Columbus; two sons, Gary, Bascom; and Preston, Carey; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers, Dallas and Steve, Carey. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
A 1948 graduate of Carey High School, Mr. Risner was the former owner and agent for Sunshine Insurance Agency in Upper Sandusky, and the Risner Insurance Agency in Forest.
Mr. Risner served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-55, and was stationed in London, England.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Paul Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund for a bird aviary.
William Simonis
SYCAMORE - William F. “Bill” Simonis, formerly of Sycamore and Loudenville and more recently of Bradenton, Fla., died at Bradenton Hospice House on Friday, Dec. 17, 2004. He was 78.
Born on Dec. 15, 1926, in Tiffin, he was a son of Cyril and Margarite (Miller) Simonis.
He married Phyllis Hussey on Jan. 27, 1945. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Roger, Bradenton; and Michael, Port Clinton; four grandchildren, Chandon Simonis, Upper Arlington; Douglas Simonis, Pickerington; Natalie, Norfolk, Va.; and Bernadette, Ravenna; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nan Bodart, Fostoria. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cyril; and a sister, Yvonne Hess.
Mr. Simonis was a former owner of Simonis Chevrolet in Sycamore and Loudenville for 20 years.
He was of Catholic faith.
Mr. Simonis was a 32nd-Degree Mason, a Shriner, a member of Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250 and a member of Disabled American Veterans. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
A memorial and Masonic service will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with Stephen Bias officiating.
Burial will be at a later date. Visitation is from 1:30-2:3 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Quam
John R. Quam, 150 N. Third St., Upper Sandusky, died at his residence at approximately 6 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004. He was 63.
A son of Delores and Elizabeth (Stoehr) Quam, he was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on Aug. 25, 1941. His mother survives in Stoughton, Wis.
Also surviving are a daughter, Alison Quam, Alpharetta, Ga.; a grandson, Gabriel; and two brothers, Sidney, Ridgeway, Wis.; and Eric, Stoughton.
A 1959 graduate of Evansville High School, Mr. Quam went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin in 1963. He received his master’s of business administration from St. Louis University, and was a 1984 graduate of John Marshall Law School, earning his jurist doctorate.
He served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including with the Bay of Pigs invasion.
Mr. Quam worked extensively in corporate and human resource settings, including for two Ohio corporations, Champion International and Gold Circle. He retired in 1997 from Mercantile Bank in St. Louis, Mo. In retirement, Mr. Quam was an adviser for a local dentist and several small corporations.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Edgerton, Wis., on Monday.
Jeffrey Snyder
Jeffrey D. Snyder, 44, of Marion, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born in Upper Sandusky on Dec. 9, 1960, he was a son of Melvin “Mick” and Ruth Ann (Sheaffer) Snyder. They survive in Nevada.
Also surviving are a brother, Tim, Olathe, Kansas; and a niece.
A 1979 graduate of Marion Harding High School, Mr. Snyder received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio State University in 1983. He worked in purchasing at Bucyrus Precision Tech Inc. in Bucyrus.
He was a member of the Prospect Street United Methodist Church in Marion.
Mr. Snyder was a lifetime member of the Ohio State Alumni, and enjoyed golfing, following Ohio State sports, NASCAR and CART racing. He was a Jimmy Buffett fan.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Joseph Miller officiating. Burial will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

James Nye
FOSTORIA - James I. Nye Sr., 61, of Fostoria, died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at his home.
Born in Gallia on April 6, 1943, he was a son of Norman and Hazel (Swisher) Nye. His mother survives in Carey. He and Dianne Sargent were married on Jan. 2, 1964, in Carey. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, James Jr., Fostoria; a daughter, Melissa Yost, Lambertville, Mich.; five grandchildren, Marina and Melanie Nye, and Chelsea, Joshua and Shawn Yost; a brother, Jeff, Carey; and two sisters, Jean Gordon and Judy DeAmicis, Carey. He was preceded in death by his father.
A 1961 graduate of Carey High School, Mr. Nye was a weight master at Mennel Milling Co. in Fostoria, with more than 39 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Nye was a life member of the Fostoria AMVETS, and a member of the Fostoria Moose Lodge, American Legion and Eagles Club.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria, with the Rev. Daniel Ring officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the organization of the donor’s choice.
James Troiano
CAREY - James C. Troiano, 442 High St., Carey, died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. He was 69.
Born in Carey on Feb. 4, 1935, he was a son of Frank Sr. and Nicolena “Nickie” (Perna) Troiano. He and Charlene Ann Phillips were married in the rectory in Carey on June 21, 1952. She survives.
Also surviving are seven children, Gloria Kessler, Don Troiano and Denis Troiano, Carey; David, Jupiter, Fla.; Gaynell Haney, Dario Troiano and Steve Troiano, Carey; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 11 brothers and sisters, Mary Best, Findlay; Carolyn Boyle, Westfield Center; Francie Rickle, Vanlue; Josephine Grossan, Bradenton, Fla.; Pauline Heck and Ralph Troiano, Carey; Annie Lawrence, Westerville; Danny Troiano, Carey; Theresa Troiano-Greene, Delaware; and Louie Troiano, Carey; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Troiano was the owner of Jimmy's Bar from 1965-69, and of Troiano's Flooring and Siding from 1970-99.
He attended the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.
Mr. Troiano was a life member of the Carey Conservation Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gambling, gardening, coin collecting and doing anything outdoors.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation with the Rev. Leo Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Carey.
Visitation is at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. A Christian wake will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Paul Davidson
NEWARK - Paul A. Davidson, 71, of Granville, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Born in Carey, he was a son of Henry F. and Catherine S. (Myers) Davidson. He married Therese Riesbeck, and they were married for 51 years. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Paul, Newark; four daughters, Patty Essick, Granville; Catherine Rudduck, Clinton, Ind.; Terri Davidson Boucher, Granville; and Susan Hicks, Newark; seven grandchildren, Clark Bauman, Kolton Rudduck, Konnor Rudduck, Logan Boucher, Dalton Boucher, Taryn Hicks and Dylan Hicks; two brothers, Charles, Denver; and Robert, Westerville; a sister, Ruth Tender, Medina; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John.
Mr. Davidson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. He worked for 40 years as a truck driver with Scrivinger, and also was a part-time farmer.
He attended St. Edward Catholic Church.
Mr. Davidson was a 4-H adviser and member of the Licking County Farm Bureau and International Brotherhood of Teamsters No. 284.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Msgr. Paul Enke officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a vigil service will be held at 3:45 p.m.
