Rev. Norman Douglas
The Rev. Norman E. Douglas, formerly of Crystal River, Fla., died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community in Upper Sandusky. He was 85.
Born March 3, 1919, in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of Nor-man and Martha Wil-bur Estes-Douglas. He married Eunice R. Graham on June 8, 1941, at the EUB Church in Upper Sandusky, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Norman, Woodbridge, Va.; Alan, Flagstaff, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Susan Muchler, Shari Richardson, Sandra Ohleger, Norman and Robert Douglas; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Janet Willis, Manlius, N.Y.
Rev. Douglas was a retired United Methodist pastor, serving the church in the Central New York, Western New York and Northern New York conferences. For two years, he ran a rescue mission for Goodwill Industries in Boston, and later served as a Protestant prison chaplain at Onondaga County Penitentiary. He also served as director of the Wesley Foundation and as a student pastor at Alfred State College and Alfred University.
A 1936 graduate of Nottingham High School, he attended Syracuse Collegiate Center, Asbury College in Kentucky, and graduated with an AB degree from Syracuse University in 1941. He then attended Boston University School of Theology, graduating in 1945 with a STB and a master’s degree in divinity.
Upon his retirement from active ministry in 1982, he and his wife resided in Crystal River, Fla. After coming to Upper Sandusky in 2001, Rev. Douglas attended John Stewart United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed automobiles and engineering things from scratch. He designed and built a motor home, designed metal artwork for the church he attended in Crystal River, an outdoor tabernacle for concerts and lighting and other improvements to the Fairhaven common area. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling the states, Europe and the Holy Land.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at John Stewart United Methodist Church, the Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery.

Mary Alice Musgrave
CAREY - Mary Alice Musgrave, formerly of Carey and more recently of Upper Sandusky, died at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004. She was 83.
Born in Seneca County on Nov. 14, 1920, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Cora O’Della (Limbaugh) Peter. She married Ralph L. Musgrave on April 19, 1941, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel. He died Dec. 24, 1977.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Musgrave, Carey; and Marliyn Myers, Upper Sandusky; a son, Ralph, Delaware; eight grandchildren, David Musgrave, Michigan City, Ind.; Mark Musgrave, Medina; John Musgrave, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Matthew Keller, Aurora, Colo.; Laura Schaefer, Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; Nick Myers, Toledo; Meredith Moon, Bowling Green; and Patrick Myers, Toledo; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Robert.
Mrs. Musgrave retired from Ford Motor Co. in Fostoria after 32 years of service. She then worked at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department, retiring after 20 years of service.
She attended the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, and was a member of its Rosary Altar Society.
Mrs. Musgrave was a member of American Legion Post No. 354 Ladies Auxiliary in New Riegel, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, VFW Post No. 3759 Ladies Auxiliary in Carey and the Wyandot Health Foundation Committee.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation with the Rev. Kieran Kay officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, New Riegel. Visitation is at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, and 2-9 p.m. Friday. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edythe Colburn
TOLEDO - Edythe R. Colburn, 95, of South Toledo, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Born June 25, 1909, in Wyandot County, she was a daughter of LeRoy and Lucey (Chaitlain) Comstock. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold B. Courtad, and her second husband, Grafton Colburn.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Steinman and Mona Laishley; 12 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; a number of great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cuba Kiefer. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Janet Wheeler and Helen Emmett; three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Colburn worked in the unit control office for the former Lamsons Department Stores. She was the last living charter member of Concordia Lutheran Church, and volunteered for a number of years at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Visitation is at Concordia Lutheran Church on Friday from 7-8 p.m., with a celebration of life service at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery.

Eleanor Davidson
NEVADA - Eleanor L. Davidson, formerly of Powell and who had been living with her daughter near Nevada, died at her daughter’s home Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004. She was 91.
Born in Powell on Aug. 26, 1912, she was a daughter of Fred and Caroline (Woerner) Monska. She married Robert L. Davidson on Dec. 17, 1933, in Delaware County. He died May 26, 1944.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Murray, rural Nevada; and Mary Louise Sandmann, Estes Park, Colo.; three grandchildren, Steve Wilson, Sheboygan, Wis.; Kathy Seay, Two Rivers, Alaska; and Mark Wilson, Denver, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Kossmann, Columbus. She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis “Bud” Monska; and a sister, Helen.
A 1930 graduate of Hyatts High School, Mrs. Davidson was a homemaker and helped on the family farm.
She was a member of the Hyatts United Methodist Church in Hyatts.
Mrs. Davidson enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, sewing, taking trips to Florida and west and spending time with her family.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Nevada, with the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Paint Township Cemetery in London. Visitation is for an hour before the service at the funeral home.

Frieda Mulvain
Frieda M. Mulvain, formerly of West Crawford Street and Indian Run Apartments, died at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community, where she has resided for three and a half years, at 3:53 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at the age of 74.
A daughter of Chester and Lottie (Tanner) Benner, she was born in Marion on March 15, 1930. She married Willis R. Mulvain, who died Dec. 16, 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra Voorhees, Upper Sandusky; three sons, Danny, Carey; Davey, Upper Sandusky; and Dean, Wharton; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Cook, Marion. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Mulvain was the owner and operator of the former Tubby’s Restaurant in Upper Sandusky, and Big Mama’s Restaurant in Carey. She also had worked at Carey Plastic.
She was affiliated with Bible Methodist Church in Findlay.
Mrs. Mulvain was a former member of the Carey Eagles. She enjoyed playing bingo, sewing, spending time with family and collecting bells.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Cravens officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Jack West Jr.
CAREY - Jack West Jr., 55, of Ottawa, died at his residence at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004.
Born on Dec. 16, 1948, in Findlay, he was a son of D.J. and Mary (Coats) West. They survive in Sycamore.
Also surviving are two sisters, Jill Walton, Sycamore; and Joan Welter, Pittsburgh; three nephews; and a niece.
Mr. West graduated from Mohawk High School in 1967, and from Ohio Northern University. He was an occupational work experience teacher in the Ottawa-Glandorf schools.
Mr. West was a past president of the Occupational Work Experience State Board. He enjoyed bluegrass music, playing the banjo and harness horses, and was a fan of the Ohio State football and the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Creation Lutheran Church in Ottawa, with the Rev. Ken Pollitz officiating. Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Leonard Kemerley
CAREY - Leonard E. Kemerley, 5131 CH 97, Carey, died at his residence at 1 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the age of 80.
Born in rural Carey on Jan. 21, 1924, he was a son of Clarence and Lorenah (Gilliland) Kemerley. On Dec. 18, 1946, he and Leona M. VanHorn were married in Carey. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Alvin, Carey; Duane, Toledo; and Lee, Carey; a daughter, Ann LaBolt, Upper Sandusky; two granddaughters, Jana and Megan Kemerley; a sister, Nina Luzader, Bucyrus; and two brothers, Roger and Robert Kemerley, Texas. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Swindler Haines and Lois Keiser; and a brother, Doren Kemerley.
Mr. Kemerley graduated from Carey High School in 1941, and was a lifelong Wyandot County farmer. He also repaired Volkswagen Bugs for many years.
He attended Memorial United Methodist Church in Carey.
Mr. Kemerley was a member of the Radio Club and was the acting treasurer of the Carey High School class of 1941. He enjoyed sitting in the backyard swing with his dog, Shorty, watching cars drive by the house.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation is Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and for an hour before the service Thursday at the church.

William Pfahler Jr.
SYCAMORE - William S. Pfahler Jr., 58, of Bloomville, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
A son of William S. and Hazel (Oberlander) Pfahler, he was born in Bucyrus on Feb. 4, 1946. He married Beverly J. Kingery on Feb. 13, 1966. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kiberly Deiderich, Medina; two brothers, Ronald and Robert, Bucyrus; a sister, Judy Kellogg, Nevada; and two grandchildren, Kylie Enders and Kade Enders. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl.
A 1965 graduate of Wynford High School, Mr. Pfahler retired from Timken Roller Bearing Co. in Bucyrus after 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Oceola United Methodist Church.
Mr. Pfahler enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Randy Ross officiating. Burial will be in Brokensword Cemetery in Crawford County, where Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation is Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
