Carol A. Monroe, 61, of Verona died May 27, 2003, at Forbes Regional Hospital.
Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of William and AnnaBelle (Freeman) Landman.
Surviving are her husband, John Monroe Sr.; her children, John Jr., Jeff and Joseph Monroe, and Peggy Ingelido; brothers, James and Russell Landman; sisters, AnnaBelle Wyland and Sally Hewitt; and six grandchildren.

Marie K. Morse, 84, of Monroeville died May 29, 2003.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Morse.

Thomas J. Portera Sr., 63, of Illinois, formerly of Oakmont, died May 29, 2003.
Born July 7, 1939, in Oakmont, he was the son of Anthony and Zula (Marino) Portera. Mr. Portera was a real estate agent and veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Catherine (Massy) Portera; children, Thomas Portera Jr. and Laura Perez, Michael and Jessica Miklasz and David Portera; five grandchildren; sister, Carmelia Liberto and her husband, Vincent; sister-in-law, Rosemary Portera; and mother-in-law, Sandy Massy.

Yvonne Smith of Penn Hills died May 24, 2003.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed swimming and volunteering at Seneca Place Nursing Home, Penn Hills library and Presbyterian Nursing Home.
Surviving are her children, Kathy Otruba of Penn Hills and Kerry Smith of North Carolina; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade John Smith.

Irene E. Soell, 77, of Oakmont died May 24, 2003, at St. Margaret Seneca Place.
Born Oct. 16, 1925, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Edward and Alice Blanche (Harrison) Smith.
She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Verona. She had previously cooked at Friendship Gardens restaurant and was a member of the Elks.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Soell; and son, Keith Soell.
Surviving are her children, Jeffrey of Miami and Robin Soell of Oakmont, and Deborah Beard of Verona; sister, Helen Wilkinson; brother, Edward Smith; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Theofilis
Anthony 'Tony' P. Theofilis, 68, of Penn Hills died May 30, 2003.
Mr. Theofilis was a CPA for more than 30 years, practicing in Pittsburgh and recently in Verona.
He was involved in Penn Hills Baseball Association, past president of Pittsburgh Chapter of Pennsylvania Society of Public Accountants, past president of Pennsylvania State Association of Public Accountants, and past president serving two separate terms at Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church.
Surviving are his wife, Angela Theofilis; children, Peter of Penn Hills, Gary of Churchill and Christopher Theofilis of Maryland; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Peter Theofilis.

Garnette M. Bryar, 61, of Indiana Township died Nov. 24, 2003, at UPMC Passavant.
Born Dec. 25, 1941, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Garnette Gobrish of Harmar Township and the late Joseph Gobrish.
Mrs. Bryar was an avid reader and traveler who visited 49 states including Alaska. She was a member of St. Victor Bairdford Catholic Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 38 years, William Bryar; son, William Bryar of Allison Park; daughter, Heather Hileman of Harwick; brothers, Joseph and Benjamin Gobrish; sisters, Patricia Santarcangelo, Janet Hargenrader and Cindy Skibo; and four grandchildren.

Born Jan. 10, 1913, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Celistine and Emma (Unk) Heitchue.

Alvera C. Blaha, 84, of O'Hara Township died Nov. 29, 2003, at UPMC St. Margaret.
Born Oct. 4, 1919, in Russellton, Pa., she was the daughter of Samuel and Nicoletta Rosati Corace.
She was a retired purchasing agent with 30 years of service at the Veteran's Administration in Aspinwall. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Blawnox, AARP and St. Margaret Hospital ladies auxiliary volunteers.
Surviving are her sisters, Mary Lavia and Rose Fusaro; brothers, Joseph and his wife, Mary, and Frank Corace and his wife, Dolly; and sister-in-law, Lucille Corace.

William A. Shaw, 72, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Nov. 21, 2003, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 16, 1931, he was a retired Duquesne Light Co. systems operator.
Mr. Shaw was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a charter member, past master and warrant officer of Plum Creek Masonic Lodge No. 799 F&AM.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Shaw; sons, Curt of Verona, Jack of Midlothian, Va., and Scott Shaw of Kissimmee, Fla.; three grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah Ballough of Penn Hills.

Charles J. 'Zookie' Urban, 72, of Penn Hills died Nov. 25, 2003, at Forbes Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1931, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of Peter and Victoria (Paulanski) Urban.
Mr. Urban was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and an avid golfer.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia (O'Connor) Urban of Penn Hills; daughter, Regina Kurtz of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Paul Urban; sisters, Victoria Mentzer and Ann Castro; and two grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Bizzack; children, James of Lafayette, Calif., and Fred Bizzack of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Joanne Kirn of Plum Borough.

Barry L. Davis, 64, of Apollo, formerly of Penn Hills, died May 13, 2004.
He was the son of Charles Davis and the late Jean Davis. Mr. Davis was retired from Local No. 6 Elevator Construction. He was a longtime member of Churchill Golf League.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn Davis; children, Sharon and Scott Davis; two grandchildren; and brothers, Jerry and Fred Davis.

Nolan
Dennis R. Nolan, 54, of Arnold, formerly of Verona, died May 13, 2004.
Born Sept. 19, 1949, in Pittsburgh to Oliver Nolan of Ocala, Fla., and the late Irene (Strang) Nolan.
He was a retired steelworker with Union Specialty Steel in Verona.
An Army veteran, Mr. Nolan served as president of VFW in Verona and was involved in Oakmont Athletic Association, now Riverview Athletic Association.
Surviving are his sons, Sean of Penn Hills and his wife, LeeAnn, and Dennis Nolan II of Arnold; daughter, Heather Nolan of Oakmont; brother, Gary Nolan of Plum; and grandchildren, Dylan Christopher of Penn Hills and Jacob William Nolan of Plum.

Virginia 'Ginny' Rihn, 70, of Penn Hills died May 10, 20904, at Presbyterian University Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1934, in Erie, she was the daughter of Edwin and Elsie (Wurst) Blackmond. She was a retired office clerk with West Penn Hospital.
Mrs. Rihn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Verona and its Ladies of Charity, and a member of Red Hat Society. She worked at Curves in Ross Township.
Surviving are her husband, John Rihn Jr.; children, John Rihn III of Florida and Lisa Whale of Ross Township; brother, Ronald Blackmond; eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Tsavinicis was a dispatcher for Oakmont-Verona Cab Co. Later she was a housekeeper for the Presbyterian Home.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Robert Tsavinicis; brothers, Frank, Robert and Kenneth Meyers; nieces and nephews.

Born Feb. 3, 1923, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of James and Evelyn (Barnett) Munion. She had lived in Florida for 25 years before moving back to the area. Mrs. Kalbaugh enjoyed crafts and was a member of Oakmont Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Donald Kalbaugh Jr., Shirley Seanor and Suzy Hunter, all of Penn Hills; brother, Robert Munion; sister, Evelyn Wooster; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

William H. Merriman, 95, of Oakmont died May 23, 2004, at Willows Presbyterian Senior-Care in Oakmont.
Born July 11, 1908, in Irwin, he was the son of William and Pearle (Hamilton) Merriman.
Mr. Merriman owned and operated Merriman Beauty Shop in Oakmont for 52 years.
He was a longtime member of Oakmont Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He volunteered at Harmar Rehab.
Surviving are his brother, Samuel Merriman; and nephew, Samuel Merriman.

William C. Russenberger, 70, of Penn Hills died May 23, 2004, at UPMC Shadyside.

He was a retired welder.
Mr. Russenberger served as a Marine during the Korean War.

She was a retired head teller at Mellon Bank of Oakmont. Mrs. Herbert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Verona and Star of Bethlehem Order of Eastern Star No. 103.
She was her preceded in death by her husband, William Herbert; and son, John Herbert.

Born March 28, 1940, in Tarentum, she was the daughter of Martin and Jennie (Bambic) Slivsek. Mrs. Secrist volunteered at Verner Elementary School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
