CARTER, William
William G. "Doc" Carter, 88, of Bonneau, a retired Springs Industry employee, died Sunday at a North Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be at 3 p.m., at Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, S.C.
Mr. Carter was born May 2, 1913 at Williamsburg County, a son of Cape Carter and Mary Ann Bolyn Carter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post #62. He was a member of Oak Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Powell Pressley Carter of Bonneau; daughter, Linda P. Bunch of Travelers Rest; three sons, Donald Pressley of Covington, Louisiana; Keith Pressley of Elgin; Eric Pressley of Bonneau; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

HARDEE, Jackson
LORIS, S.C. - Mr. Jackson Woodrow Hardee, age 82, of the Cherry Hill community, died Sunday, December 16, 2001 at Conway Hospital following an illness. Born July 11, 1919 in Loris, S.C., Mr. Hardee was the husband of the late Veola Elizabeth Hardee and the son of the late Calvin Mayberry Hardee and the late Addie Eichorn Hardee. Mr. Hardee was a farmer, a police officer, a barber, a member of the Loris Masonic Lodge #205 and a member of the Cherry Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include: four sons, Elbert W. Hardee and wife, Clara Bell, Thomas M. Hardee and wife, Pat, Garland L. Hardee and wife, Saundra, and Billy Hardee and wife, Lois, all of Loris, S.C.; one daughter, Louise Fowler and her husband, Elvin, of Hanahan, S.C.; one brother, Claude Hardee of Loris, S.C.; one sister, Clytie H. Sessions of Loris, S.C.; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Norris Hardee of Loris, S.C.; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Mr. Hardee was predeceased by one son, Wendell Hardee; one brother, Lawrence M. Hardee; one sister, Dula Jones; one grandson, Chad Hardee and one great-grandson, Dylon Green.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at Cherry Hill Baptist Church with burial following in Cherry Hill Cemetery with full Masonic Honors. Officiated by Reverends Earl Elvis, David Watts, and Matthew Jones. Visitation will be Monday evening, December 17, 2001, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Hardwick Funeral Home. HUTCHESON, John
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of December 16, 2001, John Michael Hutcheson. Residence, Summerville, South Carolina. Mr. Hutcheson was born October 24, 1956, the son of John F. and Joyce Wildes Hutcheson. He was employed for many years in auto sales.
Surviving are his parents of North Charleston, S.C., one sister, Suzanne H. Ritter, of Johns Island, S.C., and one brother, Stephen F. Hutcheson, of Lexington, S.C.

GAMBLE, Samuel
Andrews - Samuel Raymond Gamble, 75, died Monday, December 17, 2001, in East Cooper Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Gamble was born in Lecanto, FLA. on August 27, 1926, a son of the late Samuel Lawrence Gamble and Minnie Estelle Taylor Gamble. He lived most of his life in the Andrews area and attended Williamsburg Co. Schools. Mr. Gamble served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Sgt. 1st Class and was awarded the Bronze Star medal. Mr. Gamble retired in 1985 after thirty-three years employment with the Woodland Division of International Paper Company.
Mr. Gamble was a member of Happy Home Original Free Will Baptist Church. He served his church as a member of the Finance Committee and president of the Men's Fellowship. Mr. Gamble was also a member of the Quarter Century Club at the paper mill.
Surviving are: his wife, Janell Ray Gamble of Andrews; two sons, Samuel R. "Randy" Gamble, Jr. and James L. Gamble, both of Andrews; a daughter, Deborah "Debbie" G. Daniels of Inverness, FLA., a brother, Ralph Woodrow Gamble of Andrews; a sister, Claudia Mae Gamble of Andrews; and five grandchildren. Mr. Gamble was predeceased by a grandson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon, December 19, 2001 at three o'clock in Happy Home Original Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Piney Forest Cemetery under the direction of the Andrews Chapel of MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
The family will receive friends at Happy Home Original Free Will Baptist Church from seven to nine Tuesday evening, December 18, 2001.

THOMASON, Agnes
Mrs. Agnes McGill Thomason, 93, of 1424 Charlotte Hwy., York, S.C., died Saturday, December 15, 2001, at a Charleston health facility. Born in Bethany Community, York, S.C., the daughter of W. Bonner McGill and Elizabeth Leslie McGill.
Mrs. York was retired from the Department of Social Services, York Office, in 1973. She was the widow of the late William "Bill" L. Thomason, a graduate of Bethany High School and Erskine College in Due West, S.C. She taught home economics in York, S.C., for three years. She was a member of York A.R.P. Church, York, S.C. She was preceded in death by a brother George L. McGill of Bethany, S.C. She was a member of Ladies Circle and Women of the York A.R.P. Church. Mrs. Thomason was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Asbury Coward Book Club.
Survivors include, one son, William Bonner Thomason, Sr., M.D., Charleston, S.C.; one brother, J. Henry McGill, who is 98 years old, Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at York A.R.P. Church, York, S.C., Wednesday, December 19, 2001, 10 a.m. Rev. Tony Grant will officiate with the assistance of Rev. George C. McGill, Jr. Burial in Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, York, S.C. Family will receive friends after the interment at the home.

HARDWICK, Effie
MULLINS, S.C. - Mrs. Effie Lena Strickland Hardwick, 87, widow of Wallace Wells Hardwick, died Sunday, December 16, 2001, at a Marion hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Johnny Jenerette and Rev. Marvin Lynch officiating. Burial will follow in Rehoboth United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Hardwick was born November 20, 1914, in Horry County, a daughter of the late Bright and Fannie Collins Strickland. Mrs. Hardwick had retired from the Mullins Hospital as a nurse's aid. She was a graduate of Floyds High School. Mrs. Hardwick was a member of Berea Baptist Church and attended Mullins First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class.
Surviving Mrs. Hardwick are, a son, Harold Hardwick of Mullins; two daughters, Lois O'Soro of Pittsville, Mass., and Juanita Coble of Florence; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hardwick was predeceased by two sons, W.D. Hardwick and Aubrey Hardwick, a daughter, Carolyn Hardwick and two brothers, Sol Strickland and Joe Strickland.

WATSON, Henry
FLORENCE - Mr. Henry Bodie Waton, 75, formerly of Marion, died Sunday, December 16, 2001, at his residence after an illness.
Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, at Spring Branch Cemetery. The services will be directed by SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME OF MARION.
Mr. Watson was born May 15, 1926, in Conway, a son of the late John Emory Watson and the late Myrtle Davis Watson. Mr. Watson was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years and retired as Postmaster of Marion, S.C. Mr. Watson was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Sperry. Mr. Watson also retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Sergeant Major, after 26 years of service. He was a graduate of Conway High School and attended Newberry College. He was a past member of the Marion Rotary Club. Mr. Watson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion.
Mr. Watson was first married to the late Lura Dean Foxworth Watson and second to the late Hester Neely Watson.
Surviving Mr. Watson are, two sons, Carroll L. Watson of Varnville and Harold D. Watson of University Park, Md.; a daughter, Kathryn Graham Weaver of Bluffton; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Watson was predeceased by a son, Charles A. Schidler.

Dwight David McKim, 45, born in Louisville, Ky., moved to Charleston in June from Orlando, Fla., entered into the arms of God and his mother on Thursday, December 13, 2001. A great cook for Waffle House. Beloved brother, uncle, and friend to many, will be missed but never forgotten. Survived by brothers, Allen "Big Al" McKim, and Dan McKim, sisters, April McKim, Christien Masterson and Robin McKim, five nieces, and four nephews, roommate Albert Bashard and best friend Teddy Boshard. Mother Wilhelmina Heyward Phillips is survived by her three daughters, Retta Mae Phillips, Evelyn Elizabeth Chisholm and Harriette Mungin (Nathaniel). Four sisters preceded her in death, Dorothy Heyward, Boosie Heyward, Edith Buggs (Brooks). Geneva Brown; ten brothers, Buster Heyward, (Dorothy), Johnnie Heyward (Alma, deceased), Bishop Herbert C. Heyward (Iris), Richard Heyward (Betty, deceased), Chris Heyward (Vivian), Joseph Heyward, Adam Heyward (Tina), Eddie Heyward (Lynn), Melvin Heyward, Esau Heyward and Andrew Heyward (deceased); two grandchildren, Lavonia Chisholm (Robert) and Nathaniel Mungin, Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; five step-daughters, Gloria, Rona Meredith, Michelle and Evelina; five stepsons, Darryl, Michael, Marion, Jr. (deceased), Julius and Calvin; seven step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren. Melvin "Cooper" Howard, Sr., 51, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, December 15, 2001, at his residence. He was born in Sumter, S.C. to Leo and Thelma Rosalee (Freeman) Howard. Cooper has been a lifelong Charleston area resident and owned and operated Howard & Howard Flooring Co. and had worked previously with Wal-Mart. He was a member of Seacoast Christian Community Church. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Younglove) Howard, two sons, Melvin Cooper Howard, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Charles Howard of Charleston, daughter Theresa Anne Doyle of Mt. Pleasant, stepson, John R. Kitchener, Jr. of Goose Creek, stepdaughter, Marian Bonita Reyes of Goose Creek, a brother, Lewis Brunson Howard of Mt. Pleasant, four sisters, Myrtle Pendleton, Brenda Legare, Diane Hoover, all of Charleston, Cindy Schonely of Wisconsin and four grandchildren. WALTERBORO - Mrs. Nellie Mae Pigate Buchanan, 83, of 1403 Mt. Carmel Road died Sunday at a local Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME. Entombment will follow in Glendale Memorial Mausoleum.
Mrs. Buchanan was born in Olanta, a daughter of the late Robert P. Pigate and Maebelle Lee Pigate. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Alfred G. Buchanan, two sons, George (Buddy) Buchanan of Ruffin and Ronald Buchanan of Walterboro, a daughter, Uldene Roberts of St. George, brothers, Ashton Pigate, Edward Pigate, C.R. Pigate, and Jeff Pigate, all of Florence County, a sister, Gertrude McElveen of Columbia, ten grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Scott of Ridgeville; two sons, Bob Scott or Ridgeville and Phillip Scott of Barnwell; daughter, Evelyn Scott of Ridgeville; brother, Willie Muckelveney of Ridgeville; four sisters, Susan Creel, Luclia Scott, both of Ridgeville and Marie Sweat and Johnette Martin, both of Summerville; and three grandchildren.
