BRINKLEY, Harold Henderson, 66, of Roanoke, died Friday, December 4, 1998 in a Salem hospital. He was retired from General Electric in Salem, a veteran of the Korean War in the US Air Ford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Jewell Brinkley, and a son, Raymond Darrell Brinkley. He is survived by a daughter, Diana Brinkley Patton, Roanoke; two sons, Harold Wayne Brinkley, David L. Brinkley, both of Roanoke; his mother, Reba Brown of West Virginia; a very special friend, Marie Jones, Salem; two brothers, Robert Brinkley and Danny Brinkley, both of West Virginia; four sisters, Pat Vance, West Virginia, Joyce Cawley, Stewartsville, Kathleen Cooper, Dana Mullins, both of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Lauren Patton, Dustin Brinkley and Daniel Brinkley, all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 7 at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. CORRELL, Michael Richard Todd, 52, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, December 5, 1998, at his home after a long courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease or ALS. He served in the United States Army for seven years. He had been the President of Correll Missionary Ministries since 1993. In 1977, he won the Muscular Dystrophy Association Personal Achievement Award for th State of Virginia. He was a member of Cornerstone Church and a proud believer in Jesus Christ. Surviving are his wife, Karen Hefner Correll; mother, Helen Correll, Roanoke; three daughters, Christine Correll, Richmond, Melissa Correll, Clearwater, Fla., Janet Kennedy, Roanoke; one brother, Key Correll, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Becky Cauble, Charlotte, N.C., Penny Lundbeck, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one grandson, Christopher Correll; two granddaughters, Niki and Miki Kennedy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Correll Missionary Ministries, PO Box 12182, Roanoke, Va. 24023 for the Michael Correll Memorial Fund which will be used to build a church in the Phillippines. DANNER, Betty Short, 68, of King George, formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, December 4, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland S. Danner. Surviving are one daughter, Joan Sutliff, Colonial Heights; one grandson, Charlie Sutliff, Colonial Heights; sister, Peggy Falls, Roanoke; two nieces; one nephew; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; and a great-great-nephew. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel 1 p.m. Monday, December 7, 1998 with the Rev. Frank Feather and the Rev. Charles Doyle officiating. DUNNAVILLE, Geneva S., 68, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 3, 1998. After receiving her early education, she attended A&T University in North Carolina, Radford University, and did further study at the University of Virginia. She retired from the Franklin County School System. She was a member of High Street Baptist Church, joining under the pastorate of Rev. F.G. Sampson. She has served as president of the Senior League for more than 20 years and was anxiously looking forward to the Christmas celebrations this year. She was also a member of the Deaconess Board and was very serious in her work in the church program. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Jesse Smith and Hannah Roy Smith; one brother, Charles H. Smith Sr.; and a devoted aunt, Mrs. Zenobia Asheville. Those left to survive her death are one brother, George M. Smith; one sister, Lillie Hylton; sister-in-law, Hazel M. Smith, all of Roanoke; four nephews, Jesse Smith, Charles Smith Jr., Michael Smith, and Wayne A. Smith; four great nieces, Chiquita, Shanta, Jessica, and Brianna; great nephews, Lamar and Davon; two godsons, Enos Glaspie Jr., and Andrew Glaspie of Germantown, Md.; a host of devoted cousins, including Kathleen Crockett and James Taylor of Roanoke and Eliza Mahan, Pittsburgh, Pa.; a host of devoted and loving friends, Mrs. Noel C. Taylor, Rev. and Mrs. Enos Glaspie, Catherine Alexander, Peggy Mason, Carolyn Keith, Frances and William Keen, Mrs. Berta Thompson, Lillie Mae Long, Geraldine Wiley and her church family at High Street Baptist Church, especially the members of the Senior League. FORLOINE, Verla Mae, 93, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 3, 1998, in Houston, Texas. She was born on March 24, 1905, in Craig County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Scranton Forloine; a son, Ernest (Jack) Forloine; and her parents, Samuel and Fannie Caldwell. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and J. William (Bill) Milliron; four grandchildren, Timothy Forloine, Steven Forloine, Sheri Kuiken, and Donna Shaddox; eight great-grandchildren; favorite niece, Betty Garst. HODGES, Nellie Christine Blankenship, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, December 4, 1998. She was the widow of Rufus Forrest Hodges. JENKINS, Joyce Harkrader, 56, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 3, 1998. She was the widow of Samuel George Jenkins, and is survived by her brothers, Aubrey Lee Harkrader, Stephen S. Harkrader Sr., both of Roanoke; her sister, Diane Johnson and husband Rico of Salem; nephews, Robert Freeman and wife Linda, Tony Freeman, Stephen S. Harkrader Jr., Michael Harkrader; nieces, Jamie Lynn and Monica Harkrader. A graveside service will be held in Fairview Cemetery 3:30 Monday, December 7, with the Rev. Don Summerville officiating. Keith, James Lewis, ("Jim"), 69, of Salem, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 3, 1998. Jim and his wife, Carole were involved in an automobile accident on their way to Richmond. Jim was a native of Roanoke born at home on June 20, 1929. Jim was a partner of O.R. Keith and Son's Garage until its closing in 1983 after 39 years. Jim retired from Magic City Ford in 1993 and had been employed as a realtor with Barker Realty in Salem. Jim had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke since 1969. He was also a member of the Hidden Valley Country Club and a former U.S. Marine. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Ray and Beatrice Keith; and a sister, Ruby Wallace. Surviving are his wife, Carole Stroupe Keith; a daughter, Kathy Keith Martin and her husband, Sonny of Roanoke; three sons, Barry Edward Wirt and his wife, Becky of Roanoke, David Roy Wirt and his wife, Kim of Chapin, S.C., Kevin Richard Wirt and his wife, Heather of Midlothian, Va.; grandchildren, Lora Boyles, Angie Cummings, Jamey Martin, Barry Jr., Christopher, Lindsay, Caroline, Courtney, and Christine Sutton, Weston Allan James, Brighton Wirt; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Keith Brown and her husband, Perry; a niece and nephew, Anita Booth and Mark Brown; a brother-in-law, Richard Stroupe and other aunts and cousins. KNOWLES, Shirley Parrish, 81, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 3, 1998, in a Rocky Mount nursing home. She was born July 21, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., daughter of the late Alfred Leonard Parrish and Maggie Otelia Wood Parrish. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred L. Parrish, Jr. Shirley was a lifelong member of Waverly Place Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Roy E. Knowles; daughter, Opal K. Fulton, Roanoke; niece, Ann Parrish Burns, Nashville, Tenn. LEWIS, Gertrude Brown, 94, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 3, 1998. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mattie Brown; her husband, William Hale; and a daughter, Corene Barlow. Survivors include a sister, Catherine Hale of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Ernestine Smith of Roanoke; two great-grandchildren, Earle L. Riley; and a brother, Howard V. Riley. Mrs. Newell worked as a secretary with Roberts & Morgan Brokerage Company and retired as medical secretary with Dr. John G. McCowan. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her sister, Katherine R. Williamson (Robert); a brother, William E. Riley Jr.; sister-in-law, Elizabeth G. RAMSEY, William Lester, 82, of Roanoke, died Saturday, December 5, 1998 at his home. He was born February 7, 1916 in Pocahontas, son of the late Isom Ramsey and Virgie Shumate Ramsey. His wife was the late Mossie Greer ("Peggy") Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was a retired employee of Associated Transport with over 21 years of service, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by three daughters, Peggy S. Ramsey and Helen R. Pelletier, both of Roanoke, and Patricia R. Cumbie of Tuscon, Ariz.; four brothers, Jess, Joe, Jack, and Dennis Ramsey; four sisters, Kathleen Wilson, Anna Falls, Florena Arrington, and Evelyn Miles; also four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. REYNOLDS, Pierce, 83, of Salem, passed away Saturday, December 5, 1998. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Mr. Reynolds was locally acclaimed for his skills as a gardener and was regarded by some as the best tomato grower in Salem. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Reynolds; daughter, Peggy Viers; son, Jimmy Moore. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Johnny Aliff, Pat and Sonny Conner; stepdaughter, Dottie Nemi, St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Duncan, Flora Howlett, Dolly Lawson, all of Pulaski, Cleo Friend, Draper; many nieces and nephews. SWOPE, John H., 70, of Roanoke, died at his residence on Cresthill Dr. Thursday, December 3, 1998. Mr. Swope was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Armour Company. He is survived by his wife, Anne M. Swope; a son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Shari Swope, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Stanley, Ackworth, Ga.; stepson, James N. King; stepdaughter, Carolyn Young and husband, Bruce, Roanoke; additional stepchildren include LeAnne Nolan, Terri Robertson, and David Nolan, all of Roanoke. Mr. Swope is also survived by a sister, Lila Armentrout, Covington. Mr. Swope's grandchildren include Daniel Barnes, Michael Swope, and Katie Young, all of Roanoke, and Melissa Stanley, Ackworth, Ga. WARD, Juanita Lee Wilson, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, December 4, 1998 in a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Harold Ward; and a son, Edmund Harris Ward. Mrs. Ward was a member of First Wesleyan Church. WILLIAMS, Roxie Thelma Peters, 96, of Vinton, died Saturday, December 5, 1998. Mrs. Williams was a former employee of American Viscose Corp., and was retired from the General Telephone Company of California. She was preceded in death by her six brothers and three sisters, and was the widow of Lama W. Williams. Surviving are her sister-in-law, Cora Peters of Ferrum; a brother-in-law, Edd Montgomery of Ferrum; several nieces and nephews. COOPER, George Rufus, 86, of Bedford, died Friday, December 4, 1998 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Pelham, N.C. on August 18, 1912, a son of the late Robert Smith Cooper and Martha Cordelia Durham Cooper. He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was associated with Leggett Department Stores for more than 35 years. He was also a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Liberty Masonic Lodge #95, AF & FM; Scottish Rite, Bedford Shrine Club, BPOE Lynchburg Elks Lodge #321, former member of Lions Club for over 25 years , and a charter member of the Chitterlings Club. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Davis Cooper; two sons, George D. Cooper and his wife, Barbara Carwile Cooper of Pensacola, Fla., and James R. Cooper of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Vera Cooper and Mrs. Arthur C. Carter, both of Pelham, N.C.; a brother, Odell Cooper of Danville; and a granddaughter, Janice Lee Cooper of Birmingham, Ala. KELLEY, Owen Grant, "Red", 77, of Boones Mill, passed away Thursday, December 3, 1998, at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II, the 29th Division. "Red" retired from Kelley Vault Service and was a long time employee of L.L. Peters Burial Vault Company. He was preceded in death by a son, Owen Grant Kelley, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Poff Kelley; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Judy Kelley, Roanoke, J.R. ROSSLER, John Joseph Jr., 79, of Bedford, died Friday, December 4, 1998. He was born in Queens, N.Y. on March 3, 1919, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Rossler. He was a veteran in the United States Coast Guard serving over 30 years as an Engineer. He was a member of Bedford Christian Church and a member of American Legion Bedford Post #54. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor White Rossler; a special niece, Diane Van Cornwal of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; and a nephew, Calvin Hansen of Long Island, N.Y. The family will receive friends at their residence Sunday, December 6, 1998 from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Bedford Christian Church. QUESENBERRY, Ruby Hyatt, 71, of Rt. 2, (Thornspring Church Road), Pulaski, died Friday afternoon, December 4, 1998 at her home. She was born in West Virginia on June 2, 1927 and was the daughter of the late James D. Hyatt and Ethel Mae Smith Hyatt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ulies Miles Quesenberry. She was a member of the Bob White Blvd. Church of God. She was a retired employee of the Pulaski YMCA. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Carl Yost of Pulaski; a son and daughter-in-law, Verlon and Donna Quesenberry of Hollins, Ala.; three sisters, Betty Jones of Pulaski, Jean Goldenstein of Pulaski, and Lois Stoots of Carrollton; one brother, Thomas Hyatt of High Point, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday from the Bob White Blvd. Church of God with the Rev. Robert Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski. RAYNES, Margaret Kaye Stafford, 54, of Christiansburg, died Friday, December 4, 1998, after a brief illness. She was born on April 6, 1944, in Pearisburg and was preceded in death by her father, Martin I. Stafford. Kaye was a graduate of Giles High School and Pulaski Hospital School of Nursing, L.P.N. and was a former assistant magistrate in Giles County, Va. and was a retired nurse. She is survived by her mother, Glenna J. Stafford of Trigg; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Meridith Raynes of Huntersville, N.C.; and a daughter, Tina Kaye Raynes of Bluefied, Va.; a brother, Gary D. Stafford of Trigg; two sisters, Phyllis S. Gordon of Trigg and Carole S. Eaton of Pearisburg and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 1998 at Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church at Trigg with the Rev. David Olinger officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 7, 1998 in Allegheny Memorial Garden in Low Moor, Va.

She was a member of the Mountain View Methodist Church in Dublin, Va. and was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Miller in 1979. She is survived by two sons, Jack Miller, Murfrresboro, Tenn., Joe Miller, Narrows; three sisters, Hazel Armbrister, Dublin, Julia Farmer, Newbern, Connie Manger, Kitty Hawk, N.C.; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren also survive.
