Katrina `Kat' Winchell
Katrina ``Kat'' Winchell, 32, died April 27, 1999, of injuries sustained during a snowboarding accident near Juneau.
She was born in 1967 in California and graduated from Balso Grande High School and California State University at Fullerton. She moved to Juneau three years ago.
She is survived by her parents, Ann and Bill Winchell of Garden Grove, Calif., her sisters Pollyann Winchell and Jeanette Voros of California, her fiancee Dan Villanueva of Juneau and her aunt Nanny and other family in California.
Services will be held at Eaglecrest Lodge at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with a memorial at the Hangar on the Wharf at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations be sent in her name to the Gastineau Humane Society, 7705 Glacier Highway, Juneau, 99801, validating her love for cats.
Marion Huff
Former Juneau resident Marion Huff died April 21, 1999, at her home in Hamilton, Mont. Services will be held Saturday in Montana.
Matt Brakel
Matt Brakel of Juneau died April 27, 1999, in an avalanche on Mount McGinnis.
He was born Aug. 1, 1966, in Los Angeles, Calif., to a long-time Southeast Alaska family. His family returned to Southeast shortly after he was born. He attended Juneau-Douglas High School and the University of Alaska in Juneau. He competed on the ski team there.
He worked as a commercial fisherman, videographer, construction worker and snow-cat operator at Eaglecrest. He loved to ski, and was a Mitey Mite ski coach. He attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
His family writes that he loved the country of Southeast from the mountains to the sea. He loved the outdoors and his family and friends intensely, and they were happy to have had him as long as they did. His mother said he was happy doing what he loved on the day of his death.
He is survived by his mother, Judy Brakel of Gustavus, brother Aaron Brakel of Juneau, sister Tanya Brakel of Seattle, girlfriend Chris Bowman of Juneau, aunts and uncles Jim and Lani Brennan and Molly and Ron Crenshaw of Anchorage, cousins Adam Crenshaw of Seattle and Tyler Crenshaw of Mexico, his father Bernie Brakel and family of Los Angeles; and Greg and Kathy Streveler of Gustavus and Tom Steveler of Arizona.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at Fourth and Gold Streets downtown. All are welcome. A celebration of the lives of Matt Brakel and Kat Winchell will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hangar on the Wharf.

Julie (Mor) Davidson
Juneau resident Julie (Mor) Davidson died April 24, 1999, at her home in Juneau.
She was born Julie Theodore Schmidt in Sykkylven, Norway, on April 2, 1909, the seventh of nine children. The youngest, her brother Harold Schmidt of Norway, is still living.
She immigrated in 1957 with her daughter and married Victor Davidson of Ketchikan. He preceded her in death in 1967. She lived in Ketchikan for more than 20 years, and during that time she took in several foster children. She moved to Juneau in the late 1980s, and took in several more foster children.
She was known to everyone as Mor, which means mother in Norwegian. Even adult friends and neighbors called her Mor because of her kind and generous nature. She enjoyed all kinds of handiwork and was always busy with her hands.
She is survived by her children Brynjulf Lyshol (Joanne) of Ketchikan and Eldrid Davis (James) of Juneau; grandchildren Michael Lyshol, Julie Powers and Victoria West of Ketchikan; Curtis Sowers and Rolf Gundersen of Juneau, Peter Gundersen of Nome, Tim Davis of Anchorage, Linda Sowers of Valdez and Eldrid Vossler of South Dakota; 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in Norway.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Alaska Mortuary and Memorial Park in Juneau, and she will be interned Friday at the Bayview Cemetery in Ketchikan next to her husband.

Thomas J. Dawson
Former Juneau resident Thomas James Dawson died April 18, 1999, at his home in Kirkland, Wash. He was 86.
He was born May 13, 1912, in the family home at 7805 Freemont Ave., Seattle. He was the 13th of 18 children born to Tom and Hanna Dawson of Belfast, Ireland, who immigrated to Seattle in 1890.
He lived in Seattle until 1941, and at the age of 29 moved to Petersburg, where he met and married his wife Bertha. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served at Adak in the Aleutians during World War II.
They moved to Douglas in 1949 and raised a family of seven children. He worked as a baker and cab driver in Juneau until 1959, when he moved his family to Kirkland.
He retired as an employee of the Shoreline School District in Seattle. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Kirkland Eagles.
Survivors include his wife Bertha of Kirkland; brothers Bob (Mildred) of Bothell, Wash., Edward (Flo) of Oak Harbor, Wash.; sister Edna (Al) Memory of Chelan, Wash.; four sons, Pat Moore of Monroe, Wash., Jim (Renee) Dawson of Seattle, Tommy Dawson of Juneau and Kevin Dawson of Tacoma, Wash.; daughters Serene (Russ) Randall and Frances Geerhart of Kirkland, Beverly (Carson) Knight of Ellensburg, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. May 1, at the Jim Dawson residence in Seattle. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a favorite charity.
Elaine Lee Craddick-Patt
Former Juneau resident Elaine Lee Craddick-Patt died of cancer April 19, 1999, at her home in Sitka. She was 41.
She was born April 23, 1957, in Berkeley, Calif., to Donald L. and Jan P. (O'Neil) Craddick. After her father's graduation from law school in 1960, the family moved to Juneau. They moved to Sitka in 1972.
She graduated from Sitka High School and studied theater in college. She lived in Anchorage and in Ashland, Ore., returning to Sitka in 1986. She was active in community theater as an actress and director, and two of her plays won awards at ACTFest in Haines in recent years.
She taught children's theater through the community schools program in Sitka, and was the director of Headstart and assistant director of a child-care center. She worked with the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka and taught classes for the American Red Cross. She also taught computer classes.
She married David Patt on May 21, 1988, at St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church in Sitka.
Survivors include her husband, her mother Jan Craddick of Sitka; brother and sister Steven and Vickie Craddick; niece Kayli and nephews Jordan, Ethan and Tristan of Skagway, JoAnn Ocak of Colorado and Louise Trohler of Minnesota; mother-in-law Zelda Patt of Illinois, and friend and caretaker Annette Reeves.
Services were held last week in Sitka.
