Patricia Becker
Former Juneau resident Patricia P. Becker died July 25, 2007. She was 81.
She was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Whitensville, Mass. In 1963, she moved to Juneau, where she married John C. Becker.
She loved Alaska, said her family. She enjoyed salmon fishing, camping and hiking. She was very active with the Girl Scouts and many other organizations. In 1979, she moved to Washington, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Family members said she was a loving grandmother and mother. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne Becker; and two grandsons, Dustin Becker and Darrin Heath.
Francis Smith
Lifelong Juneau resident Francis A. Smith died Aug. 12, 2007, at his home in Juneau. He was 79.
He was born June 12, 1928, in Juneau at St. Ann's Hospital. He graduated from Juneau High School in 1949 and served eight years in the National Guard.
He grew up working on the family dairy, Juneau Dairy, later known as Smith Dairy. He attended Emery Riddle Flight School in Miami, Fla., where he received his A&P Certificate and commercial pilot's license. In 1961, he began working for Alaska Coastal Airlines, which later became Alaska Airlines. After leaving Alaska Airlines, he worked for Southeast Skyways, Harry Plumbing and Heating, then for the city of Juneau in runway and airport maintenance, from which he retired in 1991, after 15 years.
He was a charter member of the Glacier Valley Volunteer Fire Department, past governor of the Juneau Moose Lodge 700, from which he received his fellowship degree. In 1911, his father became a charter member of the Moose Lodge and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 420.
He loved fishing on his boat, The Buddy II; flying his Champion float plane, and traveling with his wife. He was happiest having coffee with his friends at Donna's Restaurant, spending time with all of his family at his home on Atlin Drive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Frances Smith, who were pioneer dairy men; and sister, Delores Bruns.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Smith; daughters, Jennifer Williamson and her husband, Ronnie, and Eileen Sundberg and her husband, Shawn; brothers. Lee Smith and his wife, Marie, Joe Smith and his wife, Betty, Ted Smith, Sid Smith and his wife, Elisabeth; grandchildren, Jason, Ronni Lynn, Kayla, Nicole and Dustin Williamson; Taylor and Lexi Sundberg; great-grandchildren, Brycen and Landon Williamson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the Teddy Smith family in Virginia, the Bruns family in Ohio and the Altmiller family in California.
Pallbearers are Todd Smith, Scott Reid, Jaret Reid, Tyler Reid, Bruce Griggs, Kurt Kinder and Scott Gray. Honorary pallbearers are Lee Smith, Joe Smith, Ted Smith, Sid Smith, Ted Smith Jr., Ronnie Williamson, Shawn Sundberg, Russ McDougal, Jim Kinder and the "4 o'clock coffee gang" from Donna's.
A viewing is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic on Atlin Drive. The funeral Mass, officiated by the Rev. Tony and Bishop Bruce Fox, of Aiken, S.C., will be at noon Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Interment will immediately follow the Mass at the Alaskan Memorial Park. A reception will follow from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Moose Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to South Aiken Church of God, Building Fund, 2700 Whiskey Road, Aiken, SC, 29803. This was a project very near and dear to his heart, said his family. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
Lynn Sundborg
Former Juneau resident Lynn Marie Sundborg died Aug. 5, 2007, in Seattle. She was 36.
She was born March 14, 1971, in Group Health Hospital, in Seattle. She was adopted from the Children's Home Society when she was 3 weeks old by Jean and Pierre Sundborg. Her parents named her for both grandmothers in her adoptive family, Lynn Penrose and Mary Sundborg.
She was a Juneau resident from 2006 to the spring 2007. Her father lived in Juneau from 1939 to 1968 and married his wife, Jean, after she came to Juneau in 1965 to teach home economics as "Miss Penrose" in Juneau-Douglas High School.
Lynn lived in New York, Texas, Minnesota, Alaska, France, Normandy Park, Olympia, Seattle and Spokane, Wash. She attended the American International School in Nice, France.
Family said the faculty and staff of Seattle Central Community College nurtured the best in Lynn and introduced her to success in science and mathematics. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in biotechnology from the Evergreen State College in 2000, she was employed by several Seattle biotech firms and facilities.
Artistic, musical and French linguistic abilities balanced her scientific knowledge and expertise, her family said.
"Lynn was a lovable, capable and gifted person who made friends easily," her father said.
She struggled with alcoholism and mental illness for more than half her 36 years.
"Those of us who love Lynn learned that alcoholism can be a fatal disease," said her mother. "For the sake of loved ones, seek early treatment and visit support groups for alcoholics and their family and friends."
She is survived by her parents; a grandfather, George Sundborg, one of four surviving writers of Alaska's constitution; three aunts, three uncles and their four spouses; a brother; and 15 cousins, plus their 11 spouses and 16 children.
A private gathering to celebrate her life will be held. Those who knew Lynn and wish to attend should contact the parents at (206) 283-6140. Her cremains will be interred in a small pioneer cemetery overlooking Oregon's Willamette Valley.
Christine Marie Felipe
Juneau resident Christine Marie Felipe died peacefully Aug. 21, 2007, at home. She was 41.
She was born Feb. 18, 1966, at the old St. Ann's Hospital. She attended various schools: Harborview Elementary School, Marie Drake Middle School, Juneau-Douglas High School and Mount Edgecumbe High School. Then she went on to attend San Diego City College. She worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Fish and Game and the Forest Service.
She loved to go hiking, camping and fishing. She just loved to travel and hang out with family and friends, said her family. She was a fun-loving person who touched the hearts of everyone who met her, they said. She will be greatly missed by her family and her longtime boyfriend, Ole, and her baby cat, Marcie.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Peter E. and Sophie Johnson; aunt, Matilda and Herbert Mercer; uncles, Ronald James and his wife, Violet, Raymond Johnson, and Richard Willard Sr.; sisters, Jackie and Cheryl Felipe; and cousins, Michael Richardson and Gilbert Johnson.
She is survived by her mother, Kathryn Felipe and her husband, Phillip; father, Knute Felipe and his wife, Joan; boyfriend of eight years, Keith "Ole" Olsen; sisters, Janette Williams and her husband, Jeff, and their daughter, Alexis, Melissa Catenada and her husband, Jose, and their children, Calaudio, George, Cecelia, Ana Alicia and Alnadalia; brothers, Knute Felipe Jr., and his son, Knute Felipe III, and Brian Felipe and his daughter, Mariana; aunts and uncles, Evelyn and "Buster" Richardson, Thelma and Gerald Charles, of Anchorage, Angie and Patrick Johnson, Mary Olson, of Idaho, Marie Reyes, of Washington, Clifford and Debbie Jo Johnson, and Franklin and Anita Johnson; cousins, Colleen Mercer, Roberta Richardson, Levada and Michael Johnson, Jennifer and James Johnson, Sharon and her husband Tim Love, Richard Jr., and Dorothy, Wendy, Penny, Gilbert and Ricardo Willard.
Memorial and funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of God, 8497 Thunder Mountain Road. Services will be officiated by Pastor Green.
Heather Eversmeyer
Juneau resident Heather Lee Eversmeyer died July 14, 2007, in Wenatchee, Wash., after a nine-month battle with cancer. She was 47.
She was born March 14, 1960, in Bryan, Texas. She moved to Juneau with her family in 1967. In 1971, she and her family moved to the Seldovia area, where she graduated from Seldovia High School in 1978.
She married in 1983 and graduated in 1985 from Murray State University with highest honors. She returned to Juneau, where she worked in the Alaska Health Department before she worked in the family-owned business of C&C Custodial Inc.
She divorced in 2002. The same year, she earned her Master of Arts in teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast and then her certificate for special education. She taught at the Juneau Christian School and Auke Bay Elementary School.
She is survived by her son, Jesse Eversmeyer, and daughter, Kayce Eversmeyer, both of Juneau; parents, Evan and Marjorie Haynes of Haines; two sisters, Christine Turner, of Haines, and Karen Day of Williamsburg, Ky.; and two brothers, Philip Haynes, of Monument, Colo., and Nathan Haynes of Salt Lake City.

Her ashes will be interred in Haines.
