Helen Beistline Meacham Saarela
Former Juneau resident Helen Marie Beistline Meacham Saarela died March 22, 1999, in Mount Vernon, Wash., after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born May 5, 1919, in Juneau, to Ralph and Catherine (Krinach) Beistline. She grew up in Juneau and graduated from Juneau High School in 1938. She attended the Washington State University business program, and worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Juneau, and later as an accountant in Washington for a physicians' group, Seafirst Bank and for a firefighting equipment company.
She belonged to the Episcopal Church and the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her sons Bud Meacham (Vikki) of Washington and David Meacham (Nahid), and her brother Earl Beistline of Fairbanks, and numerous nieces and nephews, and four grandchildren, Sara, Mark, Christopher and Shawn.

Services will be held Saturday in Sequim, Wash. The Sequim Valley Chapel is handling the arrangements, 360-683-5242.
Will Ryan Shattuck
Life-long Juneau resident Will Ryan Shattuck died March 20, 1999, in Seattle.
He was born Sept. 12, 1977, in Juneau, a fourth generation Juneau resident. He lived in Juneau from birth until mid-1998. He graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1995 and worked a variety of jobs in Juneau, most recently manning the coffee cart in the lobby of the Federal Building. He traveled during the summer of 1998 and worked in Bellingham, Wash., in the fall. He was studying the music business at the Art Institute of Seattle and working as an intern for a music distribution company.
He loved writing, playing and listening to music, theater, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was also active in boy scouts.
He is survived by his parents, Roger and Terry Shattuck, sister Lynn Shattuck, grandparents Bill and Nancy Ray and Curtis and Louise Shattuck, all of Juneau, aunts and uncles Allen and Janice Shattuck and Sally and Mike Slater of Juneau and Bill Ray and Jutta Eming of Germany, Molly Smith and Suzanne Drapeaux of Washington, D.C., and cousins Rob Shattuck of California, Rick Shattuck of Juneau and Julian Ray of Germany. He is also survived by many friends in Juneau and Seattle. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Jeanne Ray.
A celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Ballroom at Merchant's Wharf.

Priscilla Corpuz
Longtime Juneau resident Priscilla Corpuz died Aug. 6, 1999 at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau. She was 76.
A memorial service is planned for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the Juneau Tlingit and Haida Community Council Center, with a reception to follow.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Tlingit and Haida Community Council, with dinner following the burial.
Mary 'June' Bond
Former Juneau resident Mary ``June'' Bond, 66, died July 19, 1999 in a motor-vehicle accident at Mile 37 of the Parks Highway.
A memorial service was held in Palmer at the Salvation Army. Her ashes will be scattered on the Kenai Peninsula.
She was born June 2, 1933 in Augusta, Ga. She completed high school and attended one year of college. She came to Alaska and lived in Juneau, Douglas, Anchorage, Palmer and, most recently, Wasilla. She lived in the Juneau area for 20 years.
Mrs. Bond had worked as a secretary and accountant from 1962 to 1991. She was a foster care mother of ``The Bonding Place'' from 1991 until 1999.
She belonged to the Salvation Army Corps. Her hobbies were shopping, thrift stores, garage sales and helping others.
Her family wrote: ``She was a friend of the homeless, the unfortunate and those in need, people and stray animals. She loved everyone. They remember her best by the phrase `God bless you.'' She loved to give and expected nothing in return.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Galor.
Survivors include her husband, Theron H. Bond of Wasilla; brother, Aaron Denton of Augusta, Ga.; children Christopher Bond of Seattle, Julie Hansen of Juneau, Christie Hopps of Anchorage and Kenneth Bond of Bellingham, Wash.' foster children Kenny Anogiyuk of Wasilla and Oralee Pullem of Thomasville, Ga.; grandchildren Jennifer Llerena, Matthew Walso and Desha Hopps, Kawika Hopps, Kalei Hopps, Derrick Eddy and Tony Fitzhugh, Jesse Stoddard, Jared Hansen, Trevor Hansen, Arianna Hansen and Jerrad Laurin, all of Alaska; and great-grandchild Jamie Llerena.

Diana Lee Payne
Former Juneau resident and longtime Valdez resident Diana Lee Payne died Dec. 18, 1998, of cancer, in Valdez. She was 49.
She was born Oct. 7, 1949, in Palmer. She grew up in Glennallen and Fairbanks, and lived briefly in Juneau in the early 1960s. She was a lifelong Alaskan.
She loved spending time with her daughter and granddaughters. She enjoyed gardening, flying and hunting with her husband Don. She also liked to help others and enjoyed her work at Harborview Hospital and Horizon Homes.
She was a life member of the Pioneers of Alaska and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert I. Dittman. Survivors include her husband Don E. Payne, daughter Cindy Ezell and granddaughters Britni, Kacey and Rachel, sister Donna Gifford and brother Robert Dittman, all of Valdez; and her mother, Florence Heppler of Juneau.
Memorial services will be held Sunday in Valdez. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
