MaryGrace Needham
Juneau resident MaryGrace Tupaz Needham died Jan. 31, 2009, in Juneau. She was 31.
Born to Rodolfo and Elisama Cuales on Aug. 15, 1977, in Kalibo, Philippines, she was baptized Roman Catholic and served God and loved nature, her family said.
She attended 12 years of grade school, 18 months of computer science courses and graduated from Aklan College.
She was survived by her husband, Charles Needham, of Juneau; father, Rodolfo Cuales; and mother, Elisama Carillo Tupaz, of Kalibo.
Services were held Feb. 6 at the Alaskan Memorial Park & Mortuary. A memorial service was held Feb. 7 at the Church of God.
Pallbearers were Bob Sherwood, Koney Kanyawot, Ron Vavalis, Mickeal Shehan, Clay Cummins and Delton Cummins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MaryGrace Home to the Philippines Fund, P.O. Box 210374 Auke Bay, AK 99821. Memorials may be sent to the Filipino Community, downtown.
Kenneth Peterson
Lifelong Juneau resident Kenneth Paul Peterson died Jan. 26, 2009, in Juneau. He was 56.
A University of Alaska Fairbanks graduate, he worked as a mechanic and security guard.
He was preceded in death by his father, Olaf Peterson; mother, C. Rae Peterson; and brother, George Peterson.
He is survived by his brother, William Peterson of Bellevue, Wash.
No services were held at his request.
Earl Wischmeier
Former longtime Juneau resident Earl Wischmeier died Jan. 26, 2009. He was 88 years old.
Born June 8, 1920, in West Burlington, Iowa, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
"Earl Wischmeier was devoted to his family, friends and church," his family said. "He was a devote Catholic. He will be missed by all."
He is survived by his sister, Fern Pfeiff Burlington; son, Dennis Wischmeier, of Dayton, Nev.; daughters, Norma Granger, of Grand Junction, Colo., Carolee Ryan, of Juneau, Sharon Andrews, of Covington, Wash., Lisa Whitney, of Pahrump, Nev., Laura French, of Placerville, Calif., and Staci Murran, of Maple Valley, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A full military service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 27, at Tahomona National Cemetery in Covington, Wash.
The family asks memorial donations to be made to the Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society in his name.
John Albert Hinchman Sr. (1 of 2)
Former Hoonah resident John Albert Hinchman Sr., died Feb. 25, 2009, at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, Wash. He was 79.
Born May 19, 1929, in Haines, to Emma Wright and George Hinchman, his Tlingit name was Gooch Shaay. He was an Eagle, Chookaneidi from Xaat Hit (Ice House).
He was a retired highliner commercial fisherman in Alaska and Washington and owned and captained the Johnny A.
He was a lifetime member of Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 12 and a past city council member of Hoonah. He was a Sealaska and Hoonah Totem Corp. shareholder and a former member of the Hoonah Totem board of directors. He was active in the Moose Club in Mount Vernon and the American Legion in Sedro-Woolley. He coached the ANB basketball team and was inducted into the Gold Medal Hall of Fame in Juneau.
His greatest joy in retirement was spending time at the casinos, traveling with his wife and seeing his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Alice Hinchman; a son, John Hinchman Jr.; and a step-son, Nick Pfeifer.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Pauline Hinchman, of Sedro-Woolley; two sons, Jerald Hinchman and wife, Natalia, and Andy Gray and wife, Tesh, all of Hoonah; six daughters, Karen Hinchman, Jean Hill and husband, Vern, and Sandra Gonzolas, all of Hoonah, Pam Bogda and husband, David, of Juneau, Joanne McKibbin and companion, Jerry Spaulding, of Sedro-Woolley, and Georgina Eastman, of Portland, Ore.; two step-sons, Dr. Bill Pfeifer and wife, Mary, of Ketchikan, and August Pfeifer and companion, Olivia of La Conner, and a step-daughter, Dani Lou Pfeifer, of La Conner; three brothers, George Martin and wife, Tina, of Hoonah, Philip Martin and wife, Yvonne, of Juneau, and Sam Martin and wife, Roggny, of Sitka; four sisters, Louise Benson, of North Seattle, Marlene Johnson and husband, Dave, of Seattle, and Alice Cooper and Jennie Baldwin, both of Sitka; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in Sedro Woolley at Lemley Chapel with interment to follow at Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon, Wash. A reception will follow the services at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center. Memorial services will be March 14 in Hoonah.

A memorial service for former Hoonah resident John Albert Hinchman Sr., who died Feb. 25, 2009, will be held at 5 p.m. March 14 at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall.
