Steven Sincic
Steven P. Sincic died at Point Baker, Prince of Wales Island, on Sept. 5, 2001. He was 46.
He grew up in Skagway and Juneau and was a graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School. A mechanic and heavy equipment operator, he worked on the trans-Alaska oil pipeline and other construction projects in Alaska. He also was employed in the fishing industry.
His family writes that he enjoyed skiing, fishing, mining and prospecting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Paul Sincic of Juneau.
Survivors include his brother Jeffery Sincic of Seattle; sisters Stephanie Sincic of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sarah Achayok of Anchorage; former sister-in-law Heather Sincic and nephew and niece Eddy and Megan Sincic of Douglas.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at the Glory Hole in downtown Juneau. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Glory Hole.
Harold A. Nevers
Longtime Juneau resident Harold A. Nevers died at his summer home in Eagle on Aug. 26, 2002.
Born in East Millinocket, Maine, Nevers moved to Juneau in 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy, and was a ship's officer on the Alaska Marine Highway until he retired in 1987. He spent his later life mining in the Interior.
Nevers was a Freemason who enjoyed hunting, being with people and the outdoors, his family said. He attended Valley Chapel in Juneau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold John Nevers and Pauline Bridges Nevers; brother Clifton Robert Nevers; and an infant daughter and a stillborn son.
He is survived by his wife Leone Williams Nevers, Juneau; mother-in-law Lorene Williams Keen; sister-in-law Faye Williams Bryant and her husband Dale, Union City, Tenn.; nephew Damon Bryant, Union City, Tenn.; and niece Glenda Bryant Palmer and her husband John, Nolensville, Tenn.
A viewing and graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Alaskan Mortuary and Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at Valley Chapel on Back Loop Road at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Stella Martin
Juneau resident Stella Martin died Aug. 26, 2002, at her home in Juneau. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at the ANB Hall in Juneau. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Juneau Tlingit and Haida Community Hall. For more information, call 789-9833.
Frank A. Brown
Longtime Southeast Alaska resident Frank Allen Brown died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Juneau.
He was born in Wapato, Wash., to Frank and Irene Brown. He came to Alaska in 1961, and his parents followed in 1964. He worked as a civil engineer near Fairbanks, Yakutat, the North Slope and Southeast Alaska. He lived in Southeast Alaska for 34 years. Family members said that the wilds of Alaska captivated his heart. He enjoyed flying planes, hunting, carving ivory, and creating music and poetry.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Irene Brown, Port Ludlow, Wash.; son Frank James Brown, Weiser, Idaho; daughters Vickie Brown and Maya Brown, Juneau, and Sally Brown, Haines; stepdaughter Dee Bellemame, Juneau; siblings Tracy Brown and Patricia Brown, Port Ludlow, Wash., Phyllis Anderson, Gaston, Ore., Rodney Brown, Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and many friends.
A celebration of Brown's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Mendenhall Valley Moose Lodge. Memorial donations may be sent to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, 3200 Hospital Drive, Juneau, AK 99801.
Alexandria 'Xan' Woods
Juneau resident Alexandria "Xan" Woods died Aug. 22, 2002, at her home.
Xan was born July 8, 1962, in Shelton, Wash. Her family moved to Juneau a few weeks later. Xan and her family lived in various places throughout her childhood years, always returning to Juneau. She graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1980. She attended college in Hawaii, Idaho and Alaska. She was employed at the state Department of Labor.
She is survived by her parents, Lucile and Ted Tidwell and Mike and Jeanette Woods, sisters Carla and Shannon and brothers Sheldon, Brent, David, Mike and Sean. Xan also is survived by her sister-in-law, Stephanie, and brother-in-law, Ross, niece Emily and nephews, Scott, Brenden and Sam.
Xan was full of life, always seeking new adventures, her family said. She particularly enjoyed snowboarding, biking, hiking, spending time at the beach and shopping. What meant most to her though was just spending time with her many friends and her family.
All family and friends are invited to attend any one or all of the following: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at mile 5 1/2 Glacier Highway.
Following will be a dedication at Alaskan Memorial Park on Riverside Drive, with a reception at the LDS Church at approximately 4 p.m.

George J. Mayeda Jr. and Geraldine Nellie (Mayeda) Bledsoe
A duel memorial service for George John Mayeda Jr. and Geraldine Nellie (Mayeda) Bledsoe will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the ANB Hall.
Mayeda died June 28, 2002, in Oneida City, N.Y. Bledsoe died Aug. 18, 2002, in Redding, Calif.

Gordon J. Hallum
Longtime Juneau resident Gordon James Hallum died Aug. 26, 2002, in Juneau.
He was born April 14, 1935, in Chippewa Falls, Wis. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and graduated from Fresno State University in California in 1962. He moved to Juneau in 1966 to work as an electrical engineer for the Alaska Power Administration.
He was a member of the Territorial Sportsmen, the Elk's Lodge and the Juneau Gun Club. His family said he will be best remembered for his love of the outdoors, particularly while he was at his cabin on the Taku River. He was a strong, determined man who cherished his family and who will be missed by all who knew him, his family said.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Hallum.
He is survived by his wife Betty Hallum, Juneau; daughter Debbie Anderson; son Kevin Hallum; grandchildren Jade, Stephen, Sabrina and Iris; brother Harland Hallum; and sister Janice Gantner.
No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
