Mark Jacobs Jr.
Mark Jacobs Jr. died Jan. 13, 2005, in Sitka.
He was born Nov. 28, 1923. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He was appointed by Gov. Wally Hickel as the director of rural development. He was active in the Alaska Native Brotherhood, AFN, the NCAI, and was the current director emeritus of the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years; his sons Tony of Washington and Harold of Sitka; his sister Bertha Karras of Sitka; his aunt Matilda Gamble of Angoon; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Feb. 9, at Glacier Valley Church of God.
Audrey Mae Perdon
Former Juneau resident Audrey Mae Perdon died Jan. 11, 2005, in Las Vegas.
She was born May 27, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minn. to George and Margaret Rice.
After her family moved to Seattle, Wash., she met and married her husband Frank S. Perdon in 1945. The couple moved to Babbitt, Nev. where they raised their five daughters. They arrived in Juneau in 1973.
Audrey worked for the Alaska Department of Revenue where she was the mail room supervisor. Upon retirement in 1988, Audrey and Frank moved to Woodland, Calif. She moved to Las Vegas in October 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Ponsock and her husband George of Reno, Nev., and Kathryn Eaton of Reno, Nev.; daughters, Winona Casity of Galt, Calif., Wannetta Crago and her husband Gary of Juneau, Wilhelmina Perdon of Boulder City, Nev., Waloha Perdon of Reno, Nev., Wendy Fabela and her husband Roberto of Woodland, Calif.; adopted daughter, Shammy Perdon of Juneau; adopted son, Michael Perdon of Boulder City, Nev.; her brother-in-law, Rudy Isturis and his wife Marlee of Juneau; Roy Isturis and his wife Patty of Juneau; Janie Eldemar and her husband Daniel of Juneau; grandchildren, Deborah Boroski of Juneau, Steve Boroski of Reno, Nev., Tammy Havalind and her husband Justin of Galt, Calif., Todd Perdon and his wife Karinda of Juneau, Tonya Crago and Dan Stevenson of Juneau, Troy Crago and Amanda Corcoran of Juneau, Terra Jarvis and her husband Carl of Boulder City, Nev., Johnna Ward and her husband Jon of Boulder City, Nev., Susie Deese and her husband Joe of Reno, Nev., Roberto Fabela and his wife Michelle of Reno, Nev., and Maria Fabela of Woodland, Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Boulder City, Nev.
Her ashes will be spread over Excursion Inlet this summer.
Wilfred Baptiste
Wilfred Jordan Baptiste died Jan. 14, 2005, in Las Vegas.
He was born Nov. 12, 1930 in Honolulu and lived there for 51 years. During that time he was employed as a front-end crane operator and a security guard for Don Ho.
He then moved to Juneau and lived for seven years working as security for Channel Sanitation. He retired to Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Isabell Baptiste of Honolulu.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Baptiste; his son, Wilfred J. Baptiste Jr. and wife Sandra; his daughter, Belinda Winneford Ishikawa; his brothers, Howard Baptiste and wife Linda and Allen Baptiste and his wife Patty; and grandchildren Justin and Shana.
Carlton Samuel 'Sam' Renhard
Former Juneau resident Carlton Samuel "Sam" Renhard died Feb. 28, 2005, in Colton, Ore.
He was born to Carlton E. and Catherine Renhard on Jan. 20, 1923, in Oregon City, Ore. He was the eldest of 10 children. He grew up in Colton. In January 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific in World War II until 1945.
He married Dorothy A. Ellis of Sequim, Wash., and they moved in 1952 to Juneau. He worked in the plywood mill until it closed in 1959. He operated and owned Warner's Outboard Marine until he sold it in 1986.
After his divorce to Dorothy in 1966, he married Dorothy Frary of Tillamook, Ore. He retired to Colton in 1991 and attended annual reunions of his Marine Corps unit.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His family said he loved the Taku River and spent many years "running the river." He was an amateur photographer and filmmaker.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Frary.
He is survived by his children Carol Susan Snell of Warrenton, Ore., Charlotte Kathleen Beebe of Marysville, Wash., and Charles Kenneth Renhard of Juneau; two stepsons Michael Frary of Portland, Ore., and Chris Frary of Juneau; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and seven brothers and sisters.
The Marine Corps Color Guard participated at his memorial service on March 5 in Colton.
Gustav H. Gissberg
Former Juneau resident Gustav H. Gissberg, 88, died March 27, 2005, in San Diego, Calif.
He was born May 6, 1916, in Bellingham, Wash. He attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He walked from Fairbanks to Livengood for his first job with a gold dredging company.
He then lived and worked for more than 40 years in Juneau. He worked for the State Department of Labor. He was an active member of the Juneau and State Elks serving as grand exalted ruler and secretary of the state order.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Gissberg.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Gissberg of San Diego; sister, Vera Pells of Everett, Wash.; son, John G. Gissberg of Seattle; daughter, Joan Rachetto of Deadwood, S.D.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held April 1 in San Diego. Donations may be made in his name to a heart association.
