Vera Armonte Lamb
Longtime Juneau resident Vera Armonte Lamb died Sept. 9, 2002, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Wash.
She was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Welch, La. As a young child she moved with her family to the Dallas-Arlington, Texas, area. She received a bachelor's degree in home education from Abileen Christian College. She became a teacher in this area.
In Juneau she worked for all levels of government as well as for nonprofit organizations. During her many years in Juneau she made contributions as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, social worker, planner and grant writer, and ended her career as a child protection worker. While in Juneau she earned a master's degree in vocational education from the University of Alaska Southeast.
She is survived by her husband, Ward Lamb of Juneau; sons Greg Bowen of Juneau, Zane Bowen of Dallas, Mark Bowen of Denver, Colo.; daughter Julia McVaugh of Seattle; a sister; two brothers; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Burial services for family members were held at Alaska Memorial Park in Juneau on Sept. 14.

Peter Ray Olivit
Peter Ray Olivit died Sept. 21, 2002, in Gustavus.
He was born in Juneau on June 26, 1987. He loved music and played the guitar, piano and trumpet. He worked on cars and liked playing Nintendo.
His grandfather, Jim Baglien of Kodiak, preceded him in death.
Peter Olivit is survived by his mother and father, Sheila and John A. Olivit; brothers John C. and David E. Olivit, all of Gustavus; great-grandfather Merve Baglien of Kent, Wash.; great-grandparents John and Kathleen Olivit of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; grandmother Pam Baglien of Idaho; grandparents Jim and Victoria Gun of Juneau, Karen Autin of Hoquiam, Wash., and Rod and Audrey Olivit of Angoon; two aunts, three uncles and many cousins.
Memorial services will be held at the Alaskan Memorial Park at 3839 Riverside Drive, Juneau, at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27. A remembrance potluck will follow at the Auke Bay American Legion Hall Post No. 25, 12480 Glacier Hwy., at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Alaska Pacific Bank in his name.
A Gustavus memorial service is planned at the Gustavus Chapel at a later date.
Leonard Ralph Gray
Juneau resident Leonard Ralph Gray, 40, died Sept. 21, 2002, in Anchorage at the Alaska Native Medical Center.
He was born March 24, 1962, at Mount Edgecumbe, to Gerald and Lucille Gray. He attended schools in Mount Edgecumbe and Juneau.
He was known by family members as "Lenny" or "Bun Bun." He was a Wooshkeetaan Yadi, child of a Shark. He was born a Tsimshian Wolf and was adopted by his paternal grandfather Howard Gray Sr. in the Tak'deintaan Tsal-Xaan Hit.
His favorite sports were wrestling and baseball. His family said he had a great love for the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and would talk endlessly of his life and love of the outdoors. They said he had a great sense of humor and shared it with his family and friends to the point that he would call family members with a joke at 3 a.m. to hear them laugh.
He is survived by his maternal grandmother of Metlakatla Anna Dundas, his parents Lucille Dundas (Lucy) and his father Gerald Paul Gray Sr. (Jerry), his brother Gerald P. Gray Jr. (Sonny), his sisters Geraldine Ann Gray (Jerryann), Elizabeth Marie Gray (Lisa) and Catherine J. Bolton (Cathy). Other survivors include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Services will be held at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall in Hoonah at 7 tonight.
Andres Aquino Cadiente Sr.
Longtime Juneau resident Andres Aquino Cadiente Sr. died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in Juneau. He was surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at his home.
A Rosary will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Cathedral of the Nativity, BVM. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall. A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Nativity, officiated by the Rev. Michael Warfel. Burial services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Sophia Harris
Juneau resident Sophia Harris, 77, died Sept. 21, 2002, at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau after an automobile accident near Switzer Village Mobile Home Park.
She was born to William and Margaret Harris, and was one of 10 siblings. She was the granddaughter of Richard T. Harris, co-founder of Juneau. In her younger days she worked for the USO and entertained the armed services during wartime. She was known for her beautiful voice, the family said.
She most recently resided at Fireweed Place and lived in downtown Juneau for most of her life. She befriended the downtown merchants and could be seen making her rounds to visit her friends on a regular basis.
Her family said she was generous and caring, as those who have been recipients of her kindness and famous banana bread can attest. Her family said her laughter and smile will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her siblings W. Johnny Harris of Anchorage; Bernice Harris Tanner of Hoquium, Wash.; and Robert (Casey) Harris of Portland, Ore. She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Juneau survivors include nephew Harvey Frazier and niece Peggy Shutt.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Douglas Community United Methodist Church. There will be a gathering afterward at the church hall.
Milton Robert Nickerson
Juneau resident Milton Robert Nickerson died Sept. 23, 2002, in Juneau.
He was born to Elmer and Elizabeth Nickerson in New Brunswick, Maine, on April 7, 1947. He traveled and moved extensively because his father was a career military man. He lived in Alaska since the late 1960s and was a lifelong cab driver, working in Juneau for Metro Taxi.
His family says they will miss his caring nature and his refreshing stubbornness, smile, sense of humor and sharp wit.
He is survived by his daughter Amber McConnell, son-in-law Joe McConnell, and grandchildren Skyler and Rainy.
Services were held in Juneau on Friday, Oct. 4.
