Carmen L. Wynn
Juneau resident Carmen L. Wynn, 79, died June 30, 2004, in Juneau due to congestive heart failure.
She was born May 31, 1925, in Juneau to Ned and Helen Lemieux. She spent most of her childhood in Chilkoot Barracks, near Haines, where her father was chief engineer for the post. After attending the University of Washington in Seattle during World War II, she moved to New York, where she spent most of her adult years. She returned to Juneau in 1979 and worked for the Alaska Department of Transportation until her retirement in 1987.
Her chief interests were literature, cats and politics.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and John Galus; nephews, Paul and Mark Galus; nieces, Amy Weeks and Dayna Parker; and five great-nephews and three great-nieces.
At her request, no memorial service is planned.
Mike Squartsoff
A 40-day party for Douglas resident Mike Squartsoff will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 3, 2004, at the Tlingit-Haida building. Squartsoff, 72, died Aug. 24, 2004, at his home.
Jamie Donald Olson
Jamie Donald Olson, 28, died Sept. 11, 2004.
He was born on April 5, 1976, to Sandy Tufto and Larry Olson in Edina, Minnesota. Jamie spent his early years in Chaska and Two Harbors, Minn. He lived with his mother and stepfather, Brad Tufto, in Bloomington, Minn.; Laramie, Wyo.; Nome and Juneau. He graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1994, worked in Juneau for a while and then attended the Art Institute of Seattle.
He was an extremely creative person, always working on art projects. He also enjoyed snowboarding, skateboarding, fixing cars, interior decorating and landscaping. He loved to work in coffee shops and became certified as a barista so he could laugh and socialize with people, his favorite thing to do. His family said he got great joy from just "hanging out" with his friends and family and never missed a family gathering. "We will always remember the smile he had for everyone, his heart of gold, his big shoulder to cry on and a belly laugh that would warm the soul. He loved his friends and family deeply, and he will be sadly missed by all."
In 2001, he married the love of his life, Leslie. They lived in Juneau; Bellingham, Wash; Duluth and Bloomington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Audrey Ellestad, Kenny Olson and Edmund Tufto.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie, and daughter, Greta, of Juneau; mother, Sandy Tufto; stepfather, Brad Tufto of Colbert, Wash.; father, Larry Olson of Little Rock, Ark.; sister, Denali Tufto of Colbert, Wash.; brother, Andrew Tufto of Belleville, Ill.; grandparents, Bert and Harriet Keller of Two Harbors, Minn., and Mary Tufto of Ozark, Mo.; nephew, Andrew Jr.; aunts, uncles and cousins that spread across the nation.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at the Alaskan Memorial Park in Juneau. In lieu of flowers, there is a trust fund for Greta's college education. Shane Howard White
Shane Howard White, 15, died in Ketchikan on Sept. 25, 2004.
He was born in Ketchikan on Feb. 5, 1989. "His short time with us leaves us with wonderful memories, and we find ourselves wrapped in his love for us," his family writes. "Shane loved skateboarding with his friends and playing his guitar."
Shane is survived by his parents, Vince and Bonnie White of Ketchikan; grandparents, Al and Shirley White and Anne and Larry Johnson, all of Ketchikan, and Jerry and Laurie Germain of Port Hadlock, Wash.; great-grandparents, Bill and Stella White of Melbourne, Fla.; brother and best friend, Blaine White; sister, Kelsey White; aunts and uncles, Bennett and Patricia White, Tom and Tracy White, Brett and Amanda White, Kathy Williams, and Heidi and Ray Bryan, all of Ketchikan; Cindy White of Milwaukie, Ore., Lisa and Alex Viteri and Lance and Kelly White of Juneau; and cousins, Ed, Mike and Jessica Moniak, Alexander Viteri, Ian White, Sara, Shirlee and Stella White, Kayleigh, Zach and Laine White, and Emily Bryan.
A private family service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at the home of his grandparents on Shoreline Drive. A celebration of Shane's life will be held for family and friends at the Ketchikan High School auditorium at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, with a reception following in the Kayhi commons.

Thomas Willis Peters
Lifelong Juneau resident Thomas Willis Peters, 67, died Sept. 24, 2004, at his home.
He was born June 25, 1937, in Juneau to Thomas Willis and Marie Peters. He was of the Raven and Gaanaaxteidee clan.
He was a fisherman and worked as a taxi driver and dispatcher for the Capital Cab Company. His family said fishing was his lifelong hobby.
He is survived by sisters, Mable Pike of Anchorage, and Helen Sarabia and Elsie Brown, both of Juneau; son, Thomas L. Peters of Juneau; daughters, Wilma Peters and Threase Finkbonner of Auburn, Wash., and Josephine Finkbonner of La Conner, Wash.; grandchildren, Nikaya Peters of Auburn, Wash., Beyunko Peacher of Arizona, Ali Peacher of Wyoming, Dora Finkbonner of Auburn, Wash., Joseph, Sah-ja-halth and Courtney Finkbonner of La Conner, Wash.; and great-grandchild, Jahrel Cayou of Auburn, Wash.
A viewing will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 28, 2004, at the Alaskan Memorial Park Mortuary. Amemorial will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 30, at Tlingit & Haida, located at 3 mile.
Janette Helen Edwards
Janette Helen Edwards, 89, died September 1, 2004, of natural causes in Ketchikan.
She was born August 17, 1915, in Painesville, Ohio, to Edward and Helen Killinen.
She attended schools in Ohio, California and Klamath Falls, Oregon. She lived 10 years in Sacramento, Calif., with her husband, Don W. Statter. Her son, Don D. Statter, was born there. She moved to Haines in 1944 and then to Ketchikan in 1945, where she married Jess Edwards.
She worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and was active on the Ketchikan Central Council in the 1950s. She was Bill Egan's local campaign manager when he first ran for governor. She held a number of democratic party offices, including district chairwoman and state vice-chairwoman, until she went to work for the state. She worked for the Alaska Department of Revenue for 21 years, retiring in September 1981.
Edwards was past president of the Pioneers of Alaska Auxiliary 7 and was a member of the Church of Christ in Ketchikan.
She lived at her waterfront home at Mile 3 North Tongass until the time of her death.
Her family said "she will be greatly missed by family and very close friends and the caregivers who extended her life."
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, and husband, Jess Edwards.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Anita Statter (Robert W. Smith); granddaughters, Donna Statter Dress and Linda Statter Lewis (John) of Juneau, Debra Statter Meusel (Emil) of Ketchikan; great-grandchildren, Trista Anderson (Michael), Kristin Dress, Cordova Lewis and Johnson Lewis of Juneau, Emily Don Meusel, Nichole Consuelo Meusel and Thomas Edward Meusel of Ketchikan; and great-great-granddaughter, Jillian Anderson of Juneau; sister, Virginia McMillan; niece, Marilyn McMillan of California; cousin, Claudia Talcott of Nevada; and extended family. Erving and Doris Edwards and Anita Zugoff of Washington.
At her request, there will be no memorial service. Her ashes will be placed together with those of her husband, Jess, at the Bayview Cemetery in Ketchikan.
