Donald Shaw
Juneau resident Donald Shaw, 55, died Aug. 14, 2005, in Juneau.
He was born July 11, 1950, in Perry, Fla. He was an electrician by trade and worked in Florida, Virginia and Louisiana. In Juneau, his electrician work included the Tram Plaza, Frontier Suites and Tamrack Trail condos. He was also a commercial fisherman in Yakutat.
He friends and family say he was a kind-hearted man who made people laugh and greeted everybody with love and passion.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret.
He is survived by his life-partner of 20 years, Trish Austin; his daughter, Donna Binder; his son, Steven Shaw; his brothers, Louis and Shelby; his sister, Joann Watt; his father, Reet Shaw; his step-mother, Mirian; and his grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Aug. 26, 2005, at Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall. He will be buried on Aug. 27 in Florida beside his mother, Margaret.
Irene Shima
Juneau resident Irene Paulette Shima, 54, died Aug. 19, 2005, at home.
She was born Oct. 20, 1950, in Portsmouth, Va. She was the activities director at Bridge Adult Day Care Center and was a deacon at the Chapel by the Lake. Her family says that she "was gentle and full of joy. Her strength, compassion, heart, spirit and love of others and life will be remembered forever."
She is survived by her husband, Noel Shima of Juneau; her son, Jason Shima of Eugene, Ore.; her daughter, Anne Shima of Honolulu, Hawaii; her sister, Lee Kolden and her husband Roger of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and her mother, Dorothy Galivan of Oak Harbor, Wash.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m., Aug. 25, at Chapel by the Lake.
Irene's greatest passion was her job at Bridge Adult Day Care Center. The Bridge will be moving into a new facility in October, and it's her wish to have a part in the new opening. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the program at the memorial service or mail donations to Bridge Adult Day Care Center, c/o Mary Miller, 895 West 12th St., Juneau, 99801.
John M. Williams Jr.
Juneau resident John M. Williams Jr., 35, died Sept. 18, 2005, in Juneau.
He was born Oct. 5, 1969, in Juneau. He attended Juneau Elementary School and Juneau-Douglas High School. He worked as a janitor at the Federal Building.
He enjoyed football, fishing, running and assisting friends in need.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Oscar John Williams and Jerry M. Williams; and his sister, Julia P. Williams.
He is survived by his parents, John and Mary Williams Sr. of Sumner, Wash.; his brothers, Benjamin L. Williams of Sumner, Paul Joseph of Juneau, Richard Williams and his wife Primo of Juneau; his sisters, Vivian E. Williams of Summer and Darlene Joseph of Egegik; and his aunt, Dolly Kvande of Juneau.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Grant, Kendall Lindoff, John Watson, Randy Williams Sr., Paul White, James Jack Sr. and Bill Herman.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Northern Light United Church in Juneau.
Inga Betty Dick-Gore
Juneau resident Inga Betty Dick-Gore, 57, died Sept. 11, 2005, in Rainier, Ore.
She was born Aug. 15, 1948, in Skagway. She is of the Raven, Humpy clan. She lived in Juneau most of her life before moving to Oregon in 2001. As a young babysitter in Skagway, she saved three children from a burning three-story house and was given the gold key to the city for her heroism.
She married her husband of 43 years, Dan, on Sept. 11, 1962. She was a housewife. She was a member of Sealaska Corporation, Goldbelt and the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska.
She enjoyed listening to music and collecting stuffed animals. Her friends and family say she "always had a smile for everyone and made people laugh."
She was preceded in death by her nephew, Gregory Totland; her aunts, Helen Flood, Lillian Fawcett, Naomi Kanosh, Priscilla Corpuz and Lydia Dick; her uncle, William Dick; and her grandparents.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Gore of Rainier, Ore.; her daughter, Lisa (Wes) Tribett of Oregon; her father, Richard Dick of Juneau; her mother, Ida (Terry) Gallagher of Spokane, Wash.; her brothers, Gilbert P. (Janet) Dick of Juneau and Terrence Gallagher of Spokane, Wash.; her sisters, Paula (Ingwald) Totland of Yakutat, Shirley (Reginald) Krkovich of Yakutat, and Angelina (Daniel) Goguens of Wasilla; her sister-in-law, Harryet Rappier; her aunt, Rachel (Chuck) Jenning of Stanwood, Wash; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Sept. 27, at Tlingit and Haida Community Center.

Don I. Briscoe
Former Juneau resident Don I. Briscoe, 74, died Sept. 25, 2005, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was born to Isaac Earn and Annie Marie (Fisher) Briscoe Oct. 26, 1930, in Electra, Texas. He married Beverly Jack on Nov. 11, 1966, in Juneau.
He served his country during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He served in every branch of the United States Armed Forces except the Air Force. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard. He also retired from teaching science and coaching. He was a former member of the Retired Coaches Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Beverly; his children, Don Briscoe Jr. of Seattle, Wash., Becci Llenas and her husband Frank of Monument, Colo., Lori Morrow of Wichita Falls, Cheryl Teague of Wichita Falls, Thomas Briscoe and wife Chris of Helena, Mont., and Anna Evans and husband David of Wichita Falls; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Eric, Amanda, Zachary, Aubrey, Aren, Wacy, Ridge, Brandon, Lorianne, Caylin, David, Kristyn and Cody.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today, in the Chapel of Hampton Vaughan Crestview in Wichita Falls.
