Dennis Charles Clark
Former Juneau resident Dennis Charles Clark died April 26, 2007, in Eugene, Ore. He was 46.
He was born April 4, 1961, in Buffalo, N.Y. His family moved from Buffalo to Petersburg in 1972. He grew up there and then joined the U.S. Army. After his stint, he returned to Alaska and lived in Petersburg and Juneau. He moved to Oregon in 1997.
Family members said he was a talented artist and always tried to help friends and family when he could.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia E. Clark; and brother, Steven T. Clark.
He is survived by his daughter, Misty Gail Hauser; father, John A. Clark; brothers and sisters, Ray Clark, of Buffalo, Sandy Johnston, Pat Wheaton, John M. Clark, Mark Clark and Liz Seslar, all of Juneau, and Chris Clark, of Portland, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.

Clara Davies
Longtime Juneau resident Clara E. Davies died March 5, 2007. She was 87.
She was born in Jan. 8, 1920, in Syracuse, N.Y. A Juneau resident for 60 years, she moved in 1947 to Juneau, where she worked for the Department of Revenue and the School District. She also served in the Air Force as a codes handler.
She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Donald and Sue Davies of Anchorage, Ronald and Karen Davies of Juneau, and Larry Davies of Juneau; four grandsons; four granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
No services will be held per her request. Her ashes will be scattered with her husband's at the places they loved.
Rosemary Weller
Juneau resident Rosemary Weller died April 28, 2007, in Juneau. She was 65.
She was born March 12, 1942, in Kake to Mary Rose and Charles Axson.
"She lived her life to the fullest and was strong from the day she was born," said her son William Hanson. "She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren ... and did everything to make each and every person she met happy and special in her heart. With arms open wide open, she would give you a hug and kiss on your cheek and always say, 'I love you.'"
She worked in the seafood industry. Her family said she enjoyed gathering traditional foods. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, cousin and friend.
She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Barton, of San Francisco, Johana Tibon, of Stockton, Calif., Lavina Hallingstad and her husband, Leonard, of Seattle, Wash., and Shirley Herrera, of California; brother, Joe Johnson, of Chicago; uncles, John Keanu, of Anchorage, and Ben Berkley, of Petersburg; ex-husband, Herbert Hanson Sr.; children, Herbert Hanson Jr., of Petersburg, Lucille Hessel, of Juneau, William Hanson, of Juneau, and Wendi Hanson, of Juneau; grandchildren, Gylynne Hanson, Joshua Hunt, Faith Hunt, Richard Hunt, Michael Lyon, Cory Lyon, Sophia Hanson, Daniel Hanson, Michael Olson, Krista and Mack Bloodsworth, Keith Hanson and Larissa Hanson; great-grandchildren, Timothy Williams and Douglas Bloodsworth; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Salvation Army Church in Juneau.
Joe Glenn Shaw
Former Juneau resident Joe Glenn Shaw, of Waynesboro, Tenn., died April 29, 2007, at his residence. He was 72.
He was a native of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., owner of Tennessee Fitness Spa in Waynesboro, an Army veteran, a Christian and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Much of his life was spent in Alaska, where he met his wife and raised his son and daughter. He was an entrepreneur and avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lover of the outdoors and traveling the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Flora Trapp Shaw; and brother, Paul Shaw.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bee Love Shaw, of Waynesboro; son, Dan Shaw and his wife, Valerie, of Waynesboro; daughter, Rachel Manley and her husband, Scot, of Waynesboro; grandson, Cameron Manley, of Waynesboro; several nieces and nephews, including his brother's children, Patti Locke, Brenda Sims, John Shaw and Larry Shaw.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Neal Funeral Home, with Jimmy Pearcy officiating. Interment will follow at Shaw Cemetery in Lawrence County, Tenn.

James Griffin
Former Juneau resident James William Griffin died on April 22, 2007 in Austin, Texas. He was 84.
He was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Bryan, Texas, to William Marshall Griffin, a blacksmith, and Lillie Kemp Griffin. He grew up in Bryan and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, where he co-captained the football team in 1940. He attended Baylor University on a football scholarship, captained the team in 1947 and received undergraduate and master's degrees in 1948. His college education was interrupted by three years service in the U.S. Marine Corps.
From 1948 to 1958, he coached football and other sports at high schools in Caldwell and Bryan. He was the superintendent of schools in Milano, Texas, from 1959 to 1964.
In 1964, he moved with his wife and two young sons to Alaska where he was employed as a teacher with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He served at schools in Barrow, Saint Michael and Mount Edgecumbe. From 1975 until his retirement in 1988, he worked in the Bureau's Area Office in Juneau.
Following retirement, he and his wife remained in Juneau where he was active in the Lion's Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Eagle River United Methodist Camp and Northern Light United Methodist Church. In 2003, he and his wife moved to Austin.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bennie Griffin; and sisters, Nellie Mae Myers and Ruth McPherson.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Corinne Alice Bethea Griffin; sons, James Allen Griffin, Douglas Bethea Griffin and his wife, Barbara, of Anchorage; grandchildren, Laura Leigh and Douglas Edward, of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Irene McGill, of Temple, Texas, and Mildred Mahler, of Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on May 22 at First United Methodist Church in Bryan, Texas. His ashes will be interred at Shrine of Saint Therese Columbarium in Juneau.
