Born March 14, 1956 in Muscogee County, Ga., Mr. Smith was a member of Concord Baptist Church of Bleeker. He was employed with the Batson-Cook Company where he worked as a construction foreman.

Born Dec. 11, 1929, Mrs. Hutchinson was the daughter of the late Mr. John Willie Billingslea and Mrs. Jennie Bell Davidson Trammell. She was a member of the World of Life Family Center in West Point. Mrs. Hutchinson was preceded in death by her husband, Mose Hutchinson Sr., a sister Mammie Wright, Five brothers, John, Alfred, Ralph, Joe and Charles Trammell, a sister-in-law, Lizzie Kate Trammell and a son-in-law, Andrew Davis.
The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour.

VALLEY -- Mrs. Faye Nash, 71, of Valley died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Hospice Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga.

She is survived by her son, Donald C. Nash Jr. of Alpharetta, Ga.; her daughter, Dana Nash Pledger of Spanish Fort, Ala.; her brother, Charles Daniel of Pensacola, Fla.; two nieces, Melinda Shirley of Pensacola and Ju-Lynn Payne of Pensacola; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Nash was born Aug. 25, 1932 in Langdale. She was a graduate of Valley High School and lived for many years in Clay County, Ala., before moving back to the Valley area in 1999. She was a member of Langdale United Methodist Church and was the daughter of the late Lavelle Rutland Daniel and Britt Daniel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Nash Sr.

CEDARTOWN, Ga. -- Mr. John Benton McGowan Sr. of Cedartown died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 in Nashville, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Zuker McGowan; five children, Joan McCrea McGowan (John) LaGrasse of Nashville and Brentwood, Tenn., Diana Ossian McGowan (Earl) Morehead of Whitesburg, Ga., John Benton McGowan Jr. of Carrollton, Ga. Pauline (Polly) Dinsmore McGowan (Hal) Stadnik of Albany, Ga. and Arthur Banks McGowan of Rome, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepsons, Mark (Rita) McCown of Cedartown and Bill (Cristy) McCown of Marietta.
Born in Fitzgerald, Ga. on May 17, 1930, He was raised there by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Benton and by his uncle and aunt, Arthur Ossian Benton and Iola Kirby Benton of West Point. A graduate of Culver Military Academy in Culver, Ind. and the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, he was a textile engineer until he retired in 1997. Mr. McGowan was an avid golfer and bridge player. Preceding him in death were his parents, Jesse Ludenbarr McGowan and Grace Benton McGowan and his first wife, Joan McCrea McGowan Wilson.
Visitation will be held on Friday July 9 from 5 until 6 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home in Cedartown. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel and burial will be in Tifton, Ga. on Saturday, July 17.

DOTHAN, Ala. -- Mr. Jessie Walter Burton, Jr., 67, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 with his family lovingly at his side.

who knew and loved him.
A native of Fairfax, Mr. Burton moved to Dothan in 1963. He served his country in the United States Army and was a former welder with Jordan Pile Driving Company and Farley Nuclear Plant, where he served as the business agent for two terms. He then became employed with the Houston County Sheriff's Department.
His example and influence will forever live in the hearts and minds of those who worked with him and loved him dearly. His career spanned more than 30 years until his health failed, causing him to retire.
Mr. Burton was an exceptionally gifted thinker and a great observer of the world. He enjoyed exploring and learning new things daily. An unselfish community leader, he was a passionate advocate of social justice and equality and was a man of great kindness and compassion. He had a generous spirit and the ability to maintain a positive outlook in the most difficult of situations. Everyone Mr. Burton met became his friend, and each of his hundreds of friends was cherished as a unique and interesting person. he showered many with his generous giving, and all were blessed whose lives he touched. Mr. Burton had enormous respect for everyone and was highly respected by his colleagues. He had a good life bound by hard work and respect, making him a part of the city of Dothan's fabric. It was often said that he was a welder by trade but a carpenter by heart with a passion for learning, creating and building lasting relationships.

Joe Penn Jr. of Decatur, Ga., Tommy Penn of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Frankie Penn of Atlanta; eight sisters, Dollie Lawson and Lorine Parker, both of Decatur, Delores Mitchell, Johnnie Ruth Ivory and Izora Seymore, all of Atlanta, Brenda Smith and Dyrene Saulsbury, both of Detroit, Mich., and Evangeline Penn of Conyers, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Willie Cotton of Lanett; four brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Lula Mae Washington of Lanett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Born in Chambers County Dec. 4, 1936, Mr. Penn was the son of the late Joe Penn Sr. and Mrs. Carrie Lee Washington. He was retired from Lanett Mill with more than 32 years of service and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Renesia Brady and Marion Ross.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. at M.W. Lee Mortuary.
Mr. Penn's remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.

MR. RANDLES
LANETT -- Mr. William V. Randles, 62, of Lanett died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at his residence.
Memorial graveside services are scheduled Wednesday, July 7 at 11 a.m. in Resthaven Cemetery with the Rev. William Parker officiating.
Mr. Randles is survived by his wife, E. Jean Randles; two daughters, Rebecca Randles of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Melania (Michael) O'Hara of Mattydale, N.Y.; one brother, Richard (Linda) Randles of Cambridge, N.Y.; two sons, Mark (Siodhah) Dominy of Texas and Scott (Trina) Dominy of Lanett; and three grandchildren, Kayla Smith, Erick O'Hara and Ashley O'Hara.
Born Dec. 2, 1941 in Cambridge, N.Y., Mr. Randles was employed as an over-the-road truck driver. He loved fishing and stock car racing, where he drove his own car. He was a member of Huguley United Methodist Church.

VALLEY -- Mr. James (Jamie) Arthur Walker, 69, of Valley died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital Home in Valley.
Funeral services were scheduled Monday, July 5 at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church of Valley with the Revs. David Benton, eulogist, Robert L. Jones and W.F. Smith officiating.
Mr. Walker is survived by hiw wife, Carrie Sharpe Walker of Valley; two sons, Melvin Floyd Sr. of Atlanta and Eddie L. (Annette) Sharpe of Fort Valley, Ga.; one daughter, Theresa Sharpe of Valley; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

FIVE POINTS -- Mrs. Marilyn Williams, 74, of Five Points died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Funeral services were scheduled at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette Monday, July 5 at 2 p.m. Burial followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Milford McClain officiating.
Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters, Joy (Kenneth) Abner of Valley and Sandy (Danny) Kendrick of Five Points; one sister, Jean Foreman of Montgomery, Ala.; two brothers, Huey Conway of Sturkie and Coke Conway of Opelika; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Born Feb. 24, 1930, Mrs. William was a member of Fredonia Holiness Church in Fredonia. She was a retired waitress.

LaFAYETTE -- Mrs. Omie Trimble, 95, of Lafayette died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Bethany House in Auburn.
Funeral services are scheduled Thursday, July 1 at Antioch Baptist Church of LaFayette at 1 p.m. with the Revs. Wayne Barrett and Taylor Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Hill City Cemetery.
Mrs. Trimble is survived by one daughter-in-law, Gearline Trimble of Montgomery; two granddaughters, Bobbie Jean Walls of Birmingham, Ala., and Faye Trimble of Mobile, Ala.; one great-granddaughter, Shannon (Rob) Fondren; one great-grandson, Bubba (Lara) Walls; two great-great-grandchildren, Savannah Hope Walls and Makayla Leigh Fondren; and nieces and nephews.
Born in Chambers County Feb. 20, 1909, Mrs. Trimble was a retired textile employee, She was the oldest member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Trimble was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Trimble; two sons, Robert Eugene Trimble and Willard Trimble; and eight brothers and sisters.

WEST POINT -- Miss Melissa Dobbins, 25, of West Point died Saturday, June 12, 2004 in LaGrange.

Miss Dobbins is survived by her mother, Sharon Underwood of West Point; her father, Dugan Dobbins of Lanett; one sister, Heather Underwood of West Point; her paternal grandmother, Ruby Jones of Lanett; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grizzle of Acworth, Ga.; and her maternal step grandfather, Leonard Hawkins of Valley.
Born in Clayton County, Ga. on Nov. 6, 1978, Miss Dobbins was a member of Shawmut Nazarene Church. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Joyce Hawkins.

Mr. Hill is survived by two sisters, Gatha Yates of Wadley and Lavonia Battle of Detroit, Mich.; a devoted niece, Dorothy Watts of Wadley; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mr. Hill was born Sept. 8, 1923 in Randolph County. He was a life-long member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.
