LANETT -- Mrs. Lucel Jones, 90, of Lanett died Thursday, June 10 at Lanier Nursing Home in Valley. Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday, June 16 at 2 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Louis Upshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Jones is survived by a host of relatives and friends. She was born Jan. 13, 1914 in Chambers County. The family may be contacted at the home of Tommy Dawson at 306 S. 4th Ave. in Lanett. MR. BROWN
LANETT -- Mr. David Lee Brown, 76, of Lanett died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Bethany House in Auburn. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Revs. Robert Lee and Gordon Harris officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Brown is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Diane Brown and Debbie (Phillip) Buchanan, both of Lanett, two sons, Randy (Amanda) Brown of Lanett and Jimmy (Melanie) Brown of Auburn; nine grandchildren; 51/2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Langdale on April 15, 1928, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Ticie Lavenia Rotton Brown and Robert Maynard Brown. He was an active member of West Side Baptist Church where he loved to sing and where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Brown was a founding member of Valley Haven School and was a member of a local bowling league. He loved camping and enjoyed spending time with his family and playing games with them. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Frances Brown, a sister, Ruth Brown and his brothers, Robert Brown, Giles B. Brown, Wilson Brown, Albert Brown, J.W. Brown and William Brown. MRS. CANNON
LaGRANGE -- Mrs. Jerilee Noema Andrews Cannon, 71, of LaGrange died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at University Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 15 at 2:30 p.m. in Shawmut Cemetery with the Rev. Anthony Dean officiating. Mrs. Cannon is survived by two daughters, Pat (Randy) Darden of LaGrange and Brenda (Carl) Krames of Gainesville, Fla.; one son, Ronald (Lisa) Cannon of LaGrange, three sisters, Zella A. Tobin of Shalimar, Fla., Thalia A. Newton of Shalimar and Neva Leak of River View; nine grandchildren, Mollie Steadham, Robert Krames, Christie Cannon, Maggie Brown, Wesley Krames, Will Darden, Michael Krames, Caitlin Darden and Kevin Krames and two great-grandchildren, Mary Beth Steadham and Matthew Steadham. Born on May 26, 1933, Mrs Cannon was the daughter of the late Hope Colley Andrews and Willie Lee Andrews. She had lived in the Valley area for 16 years and had been a resident of LaGrange since 1953. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog Russell. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association in her memory. MRS. GRAY
CHICAGO -- Funeral services were held Saturday, June 12 in Chicago for Lucile Benton Gray. Mrs. Gray is survived by two children, Ellis Gray and Joann Gray, both of Key West, Fla.; four brothers, James Benton of Key West, Tommy (Dorothy) Benton and Sammy Lee Benton Jr., both of Lanett and Charles (Elaine) Benton of Atlanta; and one sister, Irelia Magby of Valley. She is also survived a special aunt, Luddie Pearl Dudley of Chicago and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Born on Jan. 7, 1923 in LaGrange, Mrs. Gray was the daughter of the late Mattie Jane and Sammy Benton Sr. She was preceded in death by two children, Freddie Gray and Jean Gray and two brothers, Harmon and Billy Benton, all of Chicago. OPELIKA -- Mr. Bobby Madden, 59, of Opelika died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Mr. Madden is survived by his wife, A. MR. MYHAND
WEST POINT -- Mr. Raymond Myhand, 66, of West Point died Friday, June 11, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Funeral services were scheduled Monday, June 14 at 2 p.m. at Baptist Tabernacle in LaGrange with the Revs. Jimmy McMillian and Mike Reeves officiating. Burial followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange. Mr. Myhand is survived by his wife, Gail Myhand of West Point, three daughters, Whitney Myhand of West Point, Dana (Lee) Traylor of LaGrange and Susan (Keith) Barfield of Hoover, Ala.; three sons, David Myhand of LaGrange, Allen (Donna) Myhand of Lucydale, Ms. and Phillip (Sheery) Myhand of Easley, S.C.; two brothers, Curtis (Camilla) Myhand of LaGrange and Glen (Pat) Myhand of Columbus and 12 grandchildren. Born in Troup County on June 13, 1937, Mr. Myhand was the son of Ora Hardy Myhand and Otis Myhand. He was a funeral director for McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point until his illnes. He had also worked for Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home in LaGrange for 31 years. Mr. Myhand was in the National Guard for seven years. He was a member of Oakside Baptist Church in LaGrange. My Myhand was precended in death by his son, Mark Myhand. The family were at the home of Wanda and Tommy O'Neal in LaGrange and family members received friends at McCarthy Funeral Home Sunday evening. Mr. Myhand laid in state from 1-2 p.m. at Baptist Tabernacle in LaGrange Monday before the service. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCarthy Funeral Home of West Point.

LANETT -- Ms. Emma "Louise" Hardy Williams, 89, of Lanett died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley. Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday June 14 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with the Revs. Louis Upshaw, Donald Lancaster, Eugene Cooks and Arthur Jackson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Williams is survived by two sons, Virgil (Rose) Williams Jr. and Rufus James (Shirley) Williams, both of Marietta, Ga.' five daughters, Mary G. Williams and Minnie M. Day, both of Louisville, Ky., Ernestine (Rev. Louis) Upshaw, Doris W. Rea and Vivian A. (Johnny) Nelloms, all of Lanett, 32 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-granchildren, a sister-in-law, Willie Mae Hardy of Detroit, Mich.; two god-sisters, Luellar (Wylie) Cammon and Doris M. Woody, both of Lanett; a special close and dear friend, Essie Mae Harris of Lanett, one son-in-law, Gene D. Rea of Lanett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Born in Troup County on Oct. 6, 1914, Mrs. Williams was the daughter of Mr. Bud Hardy and Mrs. Mary (Pittman) Hardy who preceded her in death. She was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. Her service at the church included C. Primary Sunday school teacher, original member of Choir No. 2; Vacation Bible School Teacher, Matrons, Pastor aide, Missionary Society, a faithful member of H. VALLEY -- Mr. Larry Gaines Bishop, 56, of Valley died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Dr. Jerome King officiating. Burial will follow at Shawmut Cemetery. He is survived by his son, David (Marilyn) Bishop of Tampa, Fla.; his daughter, Tracey Shearer of Tampa; two grandchildren, Jennifer Shearer and Erika Bishop; his brother, Dell (Patricia) Bishop of Valley; his mother, Emma Jean Daughtery Bishop of Valley; and his fiancee, Sarah Denise Boyd of Valley. Mr. Bishop was born Oct. 1, 1947 in Chambers County, Ala. He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration, where he was an air traffic controller. Mr. Bishop attended Shawmut First Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Crenshaw of LaGrange; two daughters, Brittany Brand and Amber Brand; one sister, Sandra Crenshaw; and two nephews, Chris Crenshaw and Jeffery Crenshaw. Mr. Crenshaw was born in Valley March 27, 1948, the son of the late Tommy and Virginia Boyd Crenshaw. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and had lived in Troup County most of his life. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her husband, Jimmy Vaughn of Marietta; one daughter, Alison Leigh (Mark) Puckett of Acworth, Ga.; one son, J. Eric (Jennifer) Vaughn of Acworth; two granddaughters, Ashlyn Amanda Puckett of Acworth and Syndey Alexandra Vaughn of Acworth; her mother, Annie Ruth Shaver Polk of Lanett, one brother, Donald (Sharon) Harmon of Lanett; and several nieces and nephews. Born Feb. 28, 1948 in West Point, Mrs. Vaughn was the daughter of the late Jack Harmon, She was a graduate of Lanett High School and Opelika Vocational Technical School. WEST POINT -- The Rev. Wyatt B. King, 73, of West Point died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday, June 8 at 2 p.m. at Reeds Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris King and Allen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The Rev. King is survived by his wife, Helen Parker King of West Point; one daughter, Diane King Bailey of Valley; one sister, Rozane King Green Chapman of Fairview, Mich.; and one brother, Kerry A. (Irene) King of LaGrange, Ga. Born in Veal, Ga., Nov. 7, 1930, the Rev. King was the son of the late Lila Jo Willingham King and the late Ammon Andrew King. He was a graduate of Lanett High School and Perry Business School. The Rev. King served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was self-employed as a restorer of antique automobiles for 40 years, and he was pastor at Midway Baptist Church in Harris County for seven years. The Rev. King had worked at the former Cottles Auto Supply Store, and he had taught body work at Chambers County Vocational School. He was a member of Reeds Chapel Baptist Church in West Point. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with Dr. Jerome King and the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Virginia Yates Butler; one daughter, Sherrell Butler Smith of Gadsden, Ala.; one son, Kris Butler of Beulah; five grandchildren, Ric Smith, Todd Smith, Kathryn S. Adams, Ashley Butler and Zaneta Daigle; four great-grandchildren, Michael Smith, Kelsey Smith, Annalea Andrews and Savannah Adams; and two sisters, Amy Shurett of Valley and Dot Woodard of Huguley. Born Dec. 20, 1927 in Valley, Mr. Butler was the son of the late Jessie Pierce Butler and Charlie P. Butler. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS South Dakota. He retired from West Point Stevens in 1994 with more than 40 years of service with the company. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Butler was a member of the Valley Rescue Squad where he was a scuba diver. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of the Shawmut volunteers in organization of the East Alabama Fire Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shawmut. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Butler Jr. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice in his memory. MRS. CLARK
LANETT -- Mrs. Pauline L. Clark, 86, of Lanett died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Columbus, Ga. Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, June 5 at 4 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with the Rev. Mike Brooks and Mr. W. L. Goodwin Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfax Cemetery. Mrs. Clark is survived by one daughter, Patsy (Larry) Clanton of Lanett; one son, Randall (Glenda) Clark of Columbus; three granddaughters, Hope Baldez, Amy Weldon and Kristy Lummus; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd (Betty) Lipham of High Point, N.C., and Billy Ray (Tommie) Lipham of Smyrna, Ga.; and two sisters, Christine Craven of Dallas, Texas and Delia Fraley of Tuscaloosa, Ala. Born October 10, 1917 in Barfield, Ala., Mrs. Clark was the daughter of the late Nancy Pearl Halpin Lipham and James Marshall Lipham. She was a very good and faithful member of the Fairfax First Baptist Church and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Clark. The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to Fairfax First Baptist Church in her memory. MRS. HAMBY
LaFAYETTE -- Mrs. Irene Hamby of LaFayette died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 4 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of LaFayette with the Revs. Joyce Woodstuff and Al Ruggles and Mr. Bill Fuller officiating. Mrs. Hamby is survived by her husband, C.C. Hamby of LaFayette; one sister, Evelyn Rogers of Huntsville, Ala.; and one brother, Staley Ingram of Montgomery. Born in Tallapoosa County, Mrs. Hamby had been a school teacher, and she was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaFayette. Visitation was held Thursday evening. MR. JOHNSON
LaGRANGE -- Mr. Clifford Johnson Jr., 84, of Shoemaker Road in the New Harmony Community died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Hospice LaGrange. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at the New Harmony C.M.E. Church on Adams Road with the Rev. John Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery of LaGrange. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie McCord Johnson of West Point; four children, Lula P. Lee of New Paltz, N.Y., Anita Rowland and Forrest Johnson Sr. of West Point and Carolyn McGhee of Atlanta; sons-in-law, Willie J. Rowland and Willie McGhee, both of West Point; two daughters-in-law, Mary Johnson and Jannie Johnson, both of West Point, 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Columbus (Essie Mae) Johnson and Elzatie Colbert, all of West Point; three sisters-in-law, Minnie McCord of LaGrange, Ruth Potts of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Ardell Winston of West Point; one brother-in-law, John (Josephine) McCord of Indianapolis, Ind; and seveal nieces, nephews and other relatives. A native of West Point, Mr. Johnson was Born Feb. 3, 1920 and was the son of the late Clifford Sr. and Carrie Winston Johnson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was an employee of Batson-Cook Co. and the Lanier family. He was a member of New Harmony C.M.E. Church where he served as superintendent of the Sunday school, chairman of the stewards board and class leader.
