She was born April 7, 1919 in Cullman to Joe Lee and Etta Knop Buckelew. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Egbert Herschel Smith; and a son, Douglas Wilford Smith. Ben William Hooks Jr.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hooks died Sunday, Sept. 23 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was born Feb. 15, 1947 in Alexandra, Va. He was police chief for the city of Morris and a member of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the Navy, having served in the Vietnam War, and also was retired from the Army National Guard He was preceded in death by his father, Ben William Hooks; and a brother, Billy Hooks. Survivors include his wife, Gerri Houston Hooks of Cullman; his mother, Lois Thompson of Warrior; three sons, Jeffery Hooks of Mt. She was past president of the Sacred Heart PTA, confidential counselor for Right to Life, member of the community theatre and community chorus and a violinist in the school orchestra. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James F. Kelly; and sons, James F. Kelly and Robert Kelly. Survivors include three sons, George (Diann) Kelly, John A.
