Services for Nellie Vise Shew, 91, of Webster’s Chapel were Thursday at 2 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden with Dr. Rick Reaves officiating. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery.
Mrs. Shew died May 7.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Clyde Shew of Webster’s Chapel, Gerald and Judy Shew of Ohatchee and Paul and Judy Shew of Webster’s Chapel; two daughters-in-law, Susie Shew of Bessemer and Joan Shew Reed of Mt. Olive; a sister, Bonnie Couch of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Steve Shew, Randall Shew, Clyde Shew, Blake Shew, Lee Shew and Terry Underwood. Honorary pallbearers were her grandson, Barry Williams, and the doctors and staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Shew had lived in Webster’s Chapel most of her life and was a member of Webster’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Shew, and two sons, Billy Shew and Claude Shew.
Thelma M. Garmon

Thelma M. Garmon, 76, died Monday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sue Drake of Butler, Mo.; a son, James Albert Faulkner of Independence, Mo.; two grandchildren; four nieces,; three nephews; and four primary caregivers, Jean Garmon, Pete Garmon, Phillip Garmon and Nichole Garmon.
Mrs. Garmon was a native of Eureka, Kan., and was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Van Garmon.

Mell Parris Johnson

Graveside services for Mell Parris Johnson, 97, were Sunday at 3 p.m. at Green lawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Terry Johnson officiating and K. L. Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in charge.
Mrs. Johnson died Friday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and John Burns and Patricia and James Green, all of Jacksonville, and Lois and Michael Poe of Birmingham; six sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Ruth Johnson, Ralph and Ruby Johnson, Maurice and Katie Johnson, Jimmy and Billie Sue Johnson, Arnold and Sue Johnson and Jackie and Jeannette Johnson, all of Jacksonville; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Mrs. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was the oldest member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer L. Johnson.
Willie Gray

Services for Willie Gray, 87 of 620 Thomas Ave., S. E., will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Vann St., with the Rev. B. J. Price officiating. There will be no wake. Viewing will be Thursday from 3-7 p.m. and Friday until 10 a.m. at Ervin Funeral Chapel in Anniston. Burial will be in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Gray died Friday at Jacksonville Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Roper of Jacksonville and Jewell Berry of Kennesaw, Ga.; one sister, Syvella Elston of Weaver; six grandchildren, Beverly Deramus and Tyrone Gray Sr., of Jacksonville; Sheliah Carr of Riverdale, Ga., Angela Alston of Kennesaw, Ga., and Anthony Gray and April Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church.
Mr. Gray was a native of Calhoun County. He had worked at Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department and was retired from Union Yarn Mill. He was a volunteer at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center and was a member over 55 years and treasurer of First Baptist Church. He enjoyed dominoes, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Joe Ronald Snider

Services for Joe Ronald Snider, 60, were Monday at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Hammonds officiating. Burial was at Jacksonville Cemetery.
Mr. Snider died Friday at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Snider of Jacksonville; six sons and five daughters-in-law, Shane and Kathy Brown of Wellington, Scott and Donnell Snider, Ronald and Rhonda Snider, Billy and Telisha Snider, Michael and April Snider and Derick Snider, all of Jacksonville; three daughters; his mother, Evelyn Snider of Jacksonville; four sisters, Virginia Andrews of Jacksonville, Linda Goodwin, Robin Young and Lennis Simmons, all of Albertville; two brothers, Perry Snider and Timmy Snider, both of Albertville; a step-brother, David Crumbley of Albertville; and four grandchildren, Krystal Brown, Hunter Brown, Taylor Snider and Dalton Snider.
Pallbearers were Shane Brown, Scott Snider, Ronald Snider, Billy Snider, Michael Snider, Derick Snider and Mark Brown.
Mr. Snider was a native of Marshall County and had been a Calhoun County resident for most of his life. He was a member of West Side Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Snider; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Pittman; and two brothers, Jimmy Snider and Edward Snider.
Nancy Etta Askew

Graveside services for Nancy Etta Askew, 81, were Saturday at White’s Gap Cemetery with the Rev. James Martin officiating and K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge.
Mrs. Askew died Friday in Jacksonville.
Survivors include a daughter, Kitty Askew of Jacksonville; a son, William Glenn Askew Jr., of Lincoln; two sisters, Bernice Wright of Guntersville and Maudie Cobb of Ellenwood, Ga.; a brother, Winston Snider of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Nell Askew of Weaver; a brother-in-law, Leonard Askew of Huntsville; two grandchildren, DeLisa Munroe of Jacksonville and Britney Askew of Lincoln; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Leahey and Melissa Leahey, both of Jacksonville.
Pallbearers were nephews, Ray Snider, Clyde Snider, David Snider, Kenneth Snider, Max Snider, Jeff Snider and James Snider.
Mrs. Askew was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Glenn Askew Sr.; her parents, Henry Snider and Mabel Snider; five brothers, Jim Snider, Bill Snider, Lonnie Snider, Bobby Snider and Charles Snider; and a granddaughter, Dawn Michelle Lumpkin.
James L. Key

Services for James L. Key, 73, of Weaver were Friday at 2 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with evangelists Clyde Ray and Elbert Lewis officiating. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Key died April 25 at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Key of Weaver; one son, Bryan P. Key of Weaver; two daughters, Kristy K. Cosby of Weaver and Theresa Beasley of Anniston; four grandchildren, Justin Brown and Jenna Brown of Weaver, Angela Beasley and Spence Beasley of Anniston; one great-grandchild, Camryn Beasley; two sisters, Dorothy Patterson of Anniston and Alice Curvin of Anniston.
Pallbearers were Jim Wohl, Wayne Griffith, Denton Harbin, Brock Parker, Bill Ryan and Eddie Nunnally. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Williams, Bert Stewart, Joe Phagan, Buddy Jamison, Bill Fulmer and Bill Smith.
Mr. Key was a member of Weaver Church of Christ and was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Allen Key, his mother and father, Bertha and Clifford Key, and a brother Burton Key.
Beverly Fordham

Services for Beverly Fordham, 47, of Martinez, Ga., were May 9 at 2 p.m. (EDT) at Elliott Sons Funeral Home in Augusta, Ga., with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Fordham died May 6 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Survivors include her husband, Donnie Fordham; two daughters, Julie Fordham and Emily Fordham; her mother, Doreen McMillon of Jacksonville; three sisters, Carolyn Cornell of Alexander City, Susan Miller of Oxford and Debbie Limerick of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mike Fordham, Josh Miller, Mike Limerick, Eric Barr, Gary Abell and Russ Copeland. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Augusta Rowing Club.
Mrs. Fordham was native of Anniston and had lived in the Augusta area since February 1986. She had worked in the Columbia County School System at Blue Ridge Elementary School. She was a 1971 graduate of Cleburne County High School and a 1979 graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in sociology. She was a member of the Augusta Rowing Club and was preceded in death by a son, Ian Fordham, and her father, Richard G. McMillon.
