Services for Joseph B. “J. B.” Hayes, 88, were at 2 p.m. March 8 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with Revs. Darrell R. Brown and Jim Wilson officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens with K. L. Brown Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Hayes died March 5 at Countryside Manor in Anniston.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Darrell Brown of Gadsden; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph D. and Dora Hayes of Heflin; two brothers, Azor Hayes of Woodstock and David Hayes of Mobile; five grandchildren, Dana Alverson, April McElroy, Joy Hester, Mandy Hammond and Wendy Rogers; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jamie Alverson, Dr. Richard Christopher, Shawn Rogers, Brian Hammond, Jerry McMelroy and William Tibbs. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church and members of the Men’s Fellowship Class.
Mr. Hayes, a Vance native, was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and a deacon. He graduated from Brookwood High School in Tuscaloosa County. He worked as a house painter for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christeen T. Hayes; his parents, Sara and Albert Hayes; six brothers and two sisters.
Joseph Turner

Private services for Joseph Turner, 92, were at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at Forestlawn Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Robert J. Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Forestlawn Gardens Mausoleum in Anniston, with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center in charge.
Mr. Turner died Feb. 22 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eileen Turner of Jacksonville; two sons, Wayne J. Turner of Marlboro, N. J. and Bruce J. Turner of Montgomery; a grandchild, Michael Turner; a great-grandchild, Joseph Turner; a niece and three nephews.
Mr. Turner, a World War II veteran, met his wife when he served with the military in Australia. He was a member of the VFW and the American Federation of Teachers. He graduated from Clemson University and retired as a teacher with the Woodbridge, N. J. Board of Education. Prior to teaching, he built custom homes.

Milton Martin Parris

Services for Milton Martin Parris, 58, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with Revs. Bill Roberts and Johnny Carr officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center in charge.
Mr. Parris died Feb. 25 at home.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Patricia Calhoun Parris of Jacksonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Jenifer Parris of Jacksonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Johnny Carr of Lynchburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Milton David Parris, William Joseph Parris, Heather Michelle Carr and Timothy Jared Carr his mother, Clara Francis Roberts Parris of Jacksonville; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Jerrice and Randy Lusk and Annette and Kyle Black, all of Anniston; Barbara and Michael Bishop of Trussville, Betty and Nelson Mahaffey and Dorothy and Mark Norman, all of Jacksonville and Teresa and Charles King of Waco, Ga.; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, R. G. and Inez Parris of Jacksonville, Ray and Shelby Parris of Anniston and Adrian and Louise Parris of Cedar Bluff.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Morrow, Glen Frachiseur, Ronnie Shaw, Johnny Traffanstedt, Charles Bonds, Gene Williams, Plug Ray and David King.
Mr. Parris was a Liberty National Life insurance company agent for 18 years. He was co-owner and candlemaker of Candles from Parris. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Lester Parris.
Maggie Ola Couch

Services for Maggie Ola Couch, 87, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with Rev. J.H. Monroe officiating. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery in Piedmont, with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center in charge.
Mrs. Couch died Feb. 25 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Jo Couch and Charlie and Connie Couch, all of Jacksonville; four sisters, Beulah Pruitt and Jeanette Chandler, both of Jacksonville, Clara Jennings of Birmingham and Charlene Young of Rome, Ga.; five brothers, Charles Phillips and Alex Phillips, both of Jacksonville, James Phillips of Piedmont, Zack Phillips of Gainesville, Ga., and Paul Phillips of Birmingham; two grandchildren, Rebecca Byers and Stephen Couch; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jerry Couch, Greg Morgan, Louie Phillips, Danny Couch, Jeff Pruitt and Danny Parris.
Mrs. Couch, an Etowah County native, lived in Calhoun County most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Couch, four brothers and three sisters.
Janet Marie Wilkins Wood

Services for Janet Marie Wilkins Wood, 65, were at 2 p.m. March 23 at Weaver Church of God with Rev. Harold Pane officiating. Burial was in Forestlawn Gardens Mausoleum with K. L. Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Center in charge.
Mrs. Wood died March 20 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Wood of Jacksonville; a daughter, Rhonda Lynne Gallegly of Anniston; two sons, Randy W. Wood and Rodney A. Wood, both of Jacksonville; two sisters, Virginia Williamson of Saks and Elaine Ray of Piedmont; a brother, Garlon Wilkins of Jacksonville and six grandchildren, Amber Hooper, Brad Hooper, Randy Wood Jr., Lakken Wood, Dalton Wood and Savannah Wood.
Pallbearers were Jerry Turner, Marvin Chapman, Brian Gilpin, Clifford Crumley, Lamar Crumley and Jim Goss. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class at Weaver Church of God.
Mrs. Wood was a Calhoun County native. She was a member of Weaver Church of God. She was a faithful church member, enjoyed fellowship; with other senior citizens and always put others first.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Daisy Wilkins and her brother, Clyde Wilkins.
Rev. Cecil S. Tompkins Sr.

Services for Rev. Cecil S. Tompkins Sr., 73, of Mableton, Ga., were at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Chapel Church of God with Revs. Glen Pittman and Don Arnold and Elder LeRoy Rankin officiating. Burial was in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Davis-Struempf Funeral Home of Austel, Ga., in charge.
Rev. Tompkins died Jan. 28.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Allie Ingram Tompkins; four daughters, Cynthia Vandiver,, Peggy Garner and Cecilia Collins, all of Douglasville, Ga.; and Angie Ingenito of Acworth, Ga.; a son, Sid Tompkins of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Dorothy Butler and Ruby Laughead, both of Jacksonville, Minnie Murray of Marietta, Ga., and Willie Reeves of Winston Salem, N. C.; three brothers, James Tompkins of Jacksonville, Ernest Tompkins of Winston Salem, and Roy Edward Reeves of Bessemer; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rev. Tompkins was born and reared in Jacksonville. He had been a minister since he was 16, preaching throughout the United States and 14 countries. He founded missionaries throughout the world. He enjoyed playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mattie (Doss) Tompkins; two sisters, Mary Reeves and Edna Virginia Tompkins; and two brothers, Edward Tompkins and Alvin Curtis Tompkins.
Kenneth E. White

Services for Kenneth E. White, 82, were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. James Robertson officiating. Burial was in Ashland City Cemetery. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. White died Saturday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Robert Kenneth and Trina White of Lawrenceville, Ga.; his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Ann and Lewis Franklin of Williamson, Ga.; four grandchildren, Dana White, Justin White, Cherie Franklin Medley and Michael Franklin; one great-grandchild, Anna Franklin and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. White was a native of Clay County and a resident of Jacksonville for the past 35 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a graduate of Auburn University.
He served in the Army for five years, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Beason White.
