Willene B. Upton

Services for Willene B. Upton, 75, are at 2 p.m. today at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel with Rev. John Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Upton died Monday in Glencoe.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Rollins of Jacksonville; a son-in-law, Rick Edwards of Jacksonville; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky and Beverly Upton of Suwanee, Ga., Gerald Upton of Wellington and Glenn Upton and Randy Upton, both of Jacksonville; two brothers, Willard Bradley of Piedmont and Dalton Bradley of Glencoe; 10 grandchildren, Mike Upton, Lisa Wells, Steven Bryant, Russell Upton, Alan Upton, Jon Upton, Ed Upton, Samantha Upton, Amber Edwards and Ethan Edwards; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Upton was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Upton; a son, Ronald Upton; and her parents, Cora and Edd Bradley.
Eula Belle Rowell

Services for Eula Belle Rowell, 81, were Tuesday at 10 a.m. at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Rev. Mike Oliver officiating. Graveside services were at 2:30 at Friendship Baptist Cemetery in Polk County, Ga.
Mrs. Rowell died Sunday at her home.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Gillespie of Jacksonville; four sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Rose Rowell, Ernie and Betty Rowell, all of Seale, and Tommy and Linda Rowell and Terry and Kathy Rowell, all of Smiths; a daughter-in-law, Rena Purvis of Orlando, Fla.;.; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mrs. Rowell was a native of Geneva and had lived in Jacksonville most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Denver Rowell; a son, Denny Rowell; and a grandchild, Jeremy Rowell.
Oscar "Mutt" Turner

Services for Oscar “Mutt” Turner, 80, were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tredegar Chapel Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. David Daniels and Kenneth Law officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery. K. L. Brown Funeral Home was in charge.
Mr. Turner died Dec. 3 at Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Turner of Jacksonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Curtis Snider of Arab and Juanita and James Batey of Jacksonville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hoyt and Shirley Turner and Norris and Arnetha Turner, all of Jacksonville; two sisters, Ruby Anderson of Jacksonville and Jean Smith of South Carolina; two brothers, Charles “Shorty” Turner and Paul Turner, both of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Scott Batey, Jeremy Turner, Josh Turner, Brandon Snider, Deric Hollingsworth, Jeff Crews and David Webb.
Mr. Turner was a native of DeKalb County and was retired from Fort McClellan. He was a member of Tredegar Chapel Congregational Church and was a World War II veteran.
He enjoyed farming. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Turner; his father, Homer Turner; a son, Willard Turner; two brothers, Bob Turner and James Turner; and his stepmother, Myrtie Turner.
Ramona Love Prater

Services for Mrs. Ramona Love Prater, 63, of Decatur, were at 1 p.m. Satur-day at Austinville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mary Steelman, the Rev. W. K. Stephenson and the Rev. Russ Gordon officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery. Shelton Funeral Home directed.
Mrs. Prater died Nov. 30 in Shelby County.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence R. Prater.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jane Quinn.
Pallbearers were nephews.
Mrs. Prater was born March 6, 1939 in Jacksonville to Edward Crook Love and Esther Borden Love.
She held a master’s degree in music education from Jacksonville Sate University. She taught in several schools in Decatur and Huntsville. She also served as music director and instrumentalist for adult and children’s choirs in several churches and also taught private lessons.
The family requests memorials be made to the Ramona Love Prater Memorial Scholarship Fund at any AmSouth Bank location.
Mrs. Prater is remembered by several area residents, including her cousin, Stan Barnwell, who said she was always looking for the good in people. “One of her God given gifts in life was her ability to cheer you up and to inspire you to do your best in life,” he says. “I am sure that God needed another smiling face in the Heavenly Choir.”
A friend, Carolyn West Andrews, remembers Mrs. Prater from their grammar school days together.
Mrs. Andrews says that members of the 1957 class of Jacksonville High School are “deeply saddened by her tragic, untimely death. Ramona was a Christian, as was very evident by her daily life. She loved life and enjoyed helping others. She enriched the lives of all who knew her.”
Friends Johnny and Nancy Bullock say that Mrs. Prater was the “most precious, kind, unassuming person in our class. She never did anything spiteful or was involved in anything that hurt other people. Our hearts go out to her husband and all those closest to her. She will be greatly missed.”
Willie Dunn Harris

Services for Willie Dunn Harris, 92, were at 10 a.m. Friday at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel with Rev. James Cohorn officiating. Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Friday at Green sport Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris died Dec. 4 at Jacksonville Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Ira Dean and Van Newman of Anniston and Martha H. Lenard of Eastaboga; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe D. and Marie Harris of Jacksonville and William B. and Janice Harris of Leeds; two sisters, Vera Lister of Sylacauga and Ruth Samples of Gadsden; a brother, Charles Dunn of Southside; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.
Mrs. Harris was an Oklahoma native and had lived in Jacksonville most of her life. She was a Baptist and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Retired Teachers Association.
She taught at several schools, retiring from Cedar Springs.
Several years ago, she was nominated for mother of the year. Mrs. Harris played the piano at churches and the senior citizen center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William Henry Harris, a daughter, Peggy Pilkington, and an infant granddaughter, Anita Lynne Harris.
