Graveside services for Catherine Harrell Giles, 64, were at 11 a.m. Monday at Crook Cemetery with Rev. Van Lockridge officiating and Chapel Hill Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Giles died Saturday at Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include two primary caregivers, Mary Bundrum of Jacksonville and Betty L. Byrd of Gadsden; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers were Homer Bundrum, Randy Howard, Thomas Reid, Joe Reid, William Byrd, Shane Adrian and Theron Dick.
Mrs. Giles was a native and longtime resident of Calhoun County. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and retired from the Anniston Army Depot. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Giles, and her mother, Varie Brown

Kristie Dawn Hurst Dempsey

Services for Kristie Dawn Hurst Dempsey, 28, of Dutton, formerly of Jacksonville, were at 2 p.m. Friday at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with Rev. Larry Gardner officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Dempsey died in an automobile accident Sept. 17 in Section.
Survivors include her husband, J. D. Dempsey of Dutton; two sons, Payton Landers and Samuel Dempsey, both of Dutton; her parents, Roger and Suzon Hurst of Jacksonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Stacy and Brad Averette of Northport; a brother, Brett Hurst of Fayetteville, Ga.; her grandmothers, Frances Powell of Jacksonville and Christine Hurst of Weaver; her uncle, Steve Powell of Fayetteville, Ga.; her mother-in-law, Virginia Pope of Dutton; her fathers-in-law, Eddie Pope of Dutton and Pat Dempsey of Geraldine; and a brother-in-law, Reggie Dempsey of Dutton.
Pallbearers were cousins and friends.
Mrs. Dempsey was a member of Lloyd’s Chapel Baptist Church and was a 1992 graduate of Jacksonville High School. She attended Gadsden State Community College and worked for Dr. Kevin Gross, an optometrist in Scottsboro. She enjoyed reading and was working on a book. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, J. D. Powell and Rev. Curtis J. Hurst.
Dr. Clyde P. Cox

Private family memorial services will be held later for Dr. Clyde P. Cox, 71, who died Friday at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Cox of Jacksonville; a son, Paul Richard Cox of Frankfort, Ill.; a daughter, Jennifer Amy Cox, M. D., of Salt Lake City; a sister, Norma Little of Corinth, Miss.; two brothers, John R. Cox of Anoka, Minn., and Dr. W. Kent Cox of Arlington, Tenn.; his mother-in-law, Laura V. Walker, and five grandchildren, Gary Wilson Cox, Evan Perry Cox, Felicity Kate Deiss, Emmaline Austin Deiss and Isabel Angela Deiss.
Dr. Cox held a doctorate in English from the University of Michigan and was the retired head of the English Department of Jacksonville State University. He was a pianist at the Victoria Inn for more than 10 years.
In lieu of flower, the family suggests contributions, including donations of musical instruments, be made to the Dr. Clyde Cox Memorial Fund, c/o the Jacksonville High School Band Booster Club, P. O. Box 208, Jacksonville, 36265. The memorial fund will provide musical instruments to enable students to participate in the music program who wouldn’t otherwise have that opportunity.
Mae Nell Suttles Clark

Memorial services for Mae Nell Suttles Clark, 80, were today at 11 a.m. at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Rev. Terry Johnson officiating.
Mrs. Clark died Sunday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Edgar Lee and Mary Suttles of Birmingham; two sisters, Helen Spears of Anniston and Ellen Moon of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Bryan Phillips, Jason Phillips, Lee Suttles and Emma Suttles; two great-grandchildren, Michael Phillips and Daniel Phillips and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Suttles Phillips; two brothers, Gus Wilkerson and Leon Wilkerson; and two sisters, Beatrice Lackey and Hazel Partlow.

Donald W. Schmill

Services for Donald W. Schmill, 78, were at 11 a.m. Thursday at West Side Baptist Church, with Rev. Truman Norred officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetry. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schmill died Sept. 2 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Schmill of Jacksonville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Anetta and Gary Oppelt of Middlesex, N. Y., Janice and Joe DeChirico of Hurst, Texas, Barbara and Bruce Caruana of Fairport, N. Y., Donna and Larry Storey of West Memphis, Ark., and Jean and Dennis Barnhardt of East Rochester, N. Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Glenna Schmill of Springdale, Ark.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were members of his Sunday School class at West Side Baptist Church
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 8495 in Fairport, the American Legon Post 57 in Jacksonville, a board member for Jacksonville Lease Housing Development, and he served on the West Side Baptist Church Building Grounds Committee. He worked for Eastman Kodak for 17 years, delivered for Meals on Wheels for 12 years and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a self-employed plumber, who enjoyed swimming, fishing and loved Alabama.

Gester Otis Mullendore

Services for Gester Otis Mullendore, 82, were at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Bert Breland officiating. Burial was in Forestlawn Gardens. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mullendore died Aug. 28 at Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Jim R. Partain of Winter Haven, Fla., and Paula and Phillip G. Hagan of Anniston; a sister, Novie Medders of Anniston; two brothers, Jimmy Mullendore of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Gene Mullendore of Anniston; three grandchildren, Steve Partain, Pam Landrum and Chris S. Hagan; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Obie Burns Mullendore.
Pallbearers were Steve Partain, John Landrum, Chris Hagan, Jimmy Trantham, Paul Golasz, Gene Mullendore, James “Butch” Johnson, Ken Klug and Lamar Howell.
Mr. Mullendore was born in Munford. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from NASA and Redstone Arsenal, where he was a governmental contract inspector. He served his country during world War II, participating in seven invasions in the Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed fly fishing and taught his sons-in-law to fly fish.
