CURRIE
10-07-2005

Services for Jabe Currie Jr., 82, were at 2 p.m. Oct. 3 in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Rev. Carlton Weathers officiated. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Currie died Sept. 30.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip D. and Julie Currie of Hoover; three grandchildren, Zach Currie of Anniston and Liana Currie and Lauren Currie of Hoover; a great-granddaughter, Lela; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe L. and Joyce Currie of Hixson, Tenn.; a special niece, Linda Hill of Jacksonville; and several other nieces and nephews.

Mr. Currie was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II and was retired from Anniston Army Depot after 30 years of service. He was a founding member of Fellowship Baptist Church, now Grace-Fellowship Church, where he served as a deacon for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Nellie Jo Currie, and a daughter, Martha Jean Currie.

DANIELS

Services for Ruth Evelyn Johnson Daniels, 88, were at 11 a.m. Oct. 1 in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Revs. Jerry Irwin, Don Maddox and Richie Franklin officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Doyle Nolen of Jacksonville; a brother, Leon Johnson of Salem, Ore.; a daughter-in-law Lorena Daniels Badgett; a sister-in-law, Euleda Johnson; a brother-in-law, Curtis Daniels; two grandchildren, David Daniels Jr., and Rheana Franklin; five great-grandchildren, Dana Daniels, Chase Franklin, Christian Franklin, Jenna Daniels, and Stone Franklin; several nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers were Cecil Marbut, Allen Hammett, Wesley Ford, Aaron Taylor, Rocky Russell and Kenneth Goodwin.

Mrs. Daniels worked as a cashier in grocery stores most of her life. She also worked as an employee of the city helping with RSVP. She was a member of Harvest Church of God and served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was a song leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Daniels; her parents, David and Ada Johnson; a son, David Daniels Sr.; two brothers, Jim Johnson and Ed Johnson; and four infant brothers.

Memorial donations can be made to New Beacon Hospice, P. O. Box 2581, Anniston 36202.

MARTIN

Memorial services for William David Martin Sr., 47, were at 11 a.m. Oct. 3 at Leatherwood Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Owens officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge.

Mr. Martin died Sept. 30 at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Lynn Martin of Jacksonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Alan Heath of Jacksonville and Kristi and John Nadack of Weaver; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William David and Jessica Martin of Ohatchee and Matthew Few of Anniston; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Linda and Phil Anderson of Alexandria, Cindy and Doug Brooks of Jacksonville and Wanda Martin of Hackleburg; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Randy and Dale Jones and Jeff and Bea Martin of Jacksonville and Ray Martin of Hackleburg; 10 grandchildren, three nieces and seven nephews.

Mr. Martin was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church.

TOLBERT

Services for infant Cadyn Lee Tolbert, 2 month old son of Terry Allen Tolbert and Casaundra Nicole Rodriguez Tolbert were at 2 p.m. in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Darryl Hill officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Cadyn died Sept. 27 at Jacksonville Medical Center.

He is also survived by his grandparents, Frankie Lee and Robert Whitten of Cumming, Ga., Terry L. Tolbert and Sandra Tolbert of Jacksonville, Danny and Teresa Rodriguez of Alexandria; and great-grandparents, Mario Rodriguez, Yolanda Spears, Bobby and Judy Whitten, Gloria Tolbert, Roland and Ruth Bellerose.

BABBS

Anniston - Services for Mrs. Mary A. Babbs, age 83, of Anniston, Ala., will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Anniston Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Sammy Fears, officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston with Anniston Funeral Services in charge. The body will be at the chapel until time of service. Mrs. Babbs passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Survivors include; one brother, Louis Jemison, of Talladega; a special niece and caregiver, Delois Coleman, of Oxford; niece, Virgina Price Ogumondede, of Anniston; special adopted nieces, Jacques (Elbert) Moore, of Weaver, Jacquelyn (Timothy) Flowers, of Anniston and Sandra (Jerry) Whatley, of Anniston, and a special cousin, Laura Groce, of Talladega.

Mrs. Babbs was a native most of her life and was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas "Bear" Babbs. The family will accept flowers.

Lipscomb - Funeral Service for Barbara A. Blanks, 52, of Lipscomb, Ala., will be noon Saturday May 20, 2006 at New Bethlehem Baptist Church with Dr. W.H. Walker officiating. Burial will be Highland Memorial Cemetery with Goodson Funeral Home of Anniston directing. Public visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Faith Memorial Funeral Home in Bessemer.

Survivors include husband, Jack Blank; sons, LaCorey Anger, James Blanks; daughters, Mary Blanks, Beatrice Blanks; brother, Wallace Anger Jr.; sisters, Dorothy Streater, Johnnie Graham, Minnie Mitchell; grandchildren, Rosie Anger, LaCorey Anger Jr. She was preceded in death by parents Wallace and Mary Anger Sr., sister, Hattie Anger.

BOONE

Anniston - A Graveside Service for Blanca Boone, age 59, of Anniston will be Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at noon at Maple Grove Cemetery with Father Bob Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 22 with a vigil service following at 7 at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel. Mrs. Boone died Wednesday at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

BROWN

Jones Elbert Brown, known to his family, friends, and associates as "J.E." died peacefully at home on May 17, 2006 after a brief illness at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Jo Brown.

He is survived by his three daughters, Betty Jo Moore and husband, Truman, of Huntsville, Dorothy B. Haynes and husband, Kenneth, of Huntsville; and Starla Bennett and husband, Joe, of Oxford; two sisters, Gladys Woody and Berta Young, both of Piedmont; two brothers, Gordon Brown, of Oxford, and Boyce Brown, of Ohatchee; eight grandchildren, Kyle and Karisa Haynes, of Huntsville; Shannon, Darby, and Brian Moore, of Huntsville, and Stevie, Chase, and Jodi Bennett, of Oxford; one great-granddaughter, Katherine Renee Moore, of Huntsville.

Pallbearers will be Steve Brown, Tim Brown, Kevin Brown, Mike Brown, Sam Woody, and Ricky Young. He began his excavating business, Brown Brothers Grading Company in 1953 in Piedmont, Alabama and eventually moved his company to Oxford. His business excavated numerous building sites and highways in the Southeast, notably the Tullahoma Rocket Test Facility in Tennessee. He was a well-known businessman in Calhoun County and was instrumental in the organization of First City National Bank of Oxford where he served on the Board of Directors. Later, it was acquired by Compass Bank. His numerous business achievements included mining operations and real estate developments. In Calhoun and Talladega Counties, these included the subdivisions of Brownwood, White Gap Estates, Choccolocco Estates, and Brown Acres (Calhoun County) and the subdivisions of Country Oaks, Valley East, Valley View, and McIntosh Acres (Talladega County). Mr. Brown was a World War II veteran where he served in the United States Navy.

Services for Mr. Brown will be Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
