Services for James C. Nix Sr., 81, were at noon Feb. 2 at Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary in Talladega with Pastor Beulah Stoudmire officiating. Burial was in Fort Mitchell Cemetery.
Mr. Nix died Jan. 29 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include four sons, J. C. Nix Jr., of Pikeville, Tenn., Lindsay Nix of Peoria, Ill., and Henry Nix and David Nix, both of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; three sisters, Lean David of Anniston and Betty Nix and Dorothy Suttle, both of Talladega, and three grandchildren.
Mr. Nix was a Baptist. He was honorably discharged from the Army after two years and awarded the American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He had been employed by Norris Brothers Insulating Company and was a grave digger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Enzer Nix and Ruby Parker Nix; two sisters, Lucille Nix and Lela Allen, and a brother, James Nix.
PARRIS

Services for Mildred Palestine Davis Parris, 75, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel, with Revs. James Martin and Truman Norred officiating. Special music was by Patrick Johnson and family. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Parris died Jan. 24 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Malcus Clem Parris; a daughter and her husband Peggy Darlene and Johnny Fortune of Saks; a son and his wife, Jerry Tyrone and Sonja Parris of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Shawn and Candice Lee Fortune Seeger, Matthew and Amanda Elizabeth Fortune Prickett, Shannon and Joanie Darlene Fortune Easterwood, Scott and Christina Lynn Parris O’dell and Matthew Lee Parris; two step grandchildren, Kelly Haynes and Frank Tucker; five great-grandchildren, Kyle and Anna Lee Seeger, McKinley and McKaden Prickett and Colie Easterwood; five step great-grandchildren, Megan and Mallory Haynes and Luke, Jo Shua and Joseph Tucker; 13 nieces and 20 nephews.
Pallbearers were Gary Bragg, Russell West, Ted Parris, Kenneth Evans, Garrell Parris, Jimmy West, Kenneth McCrelles and Matthew Parris. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Jacksonville Medical Center Auxiliary (Pink Ladies and Red Coats.)
Mrs. Parris, a Jacksonville native and lifelong resident, was a Baptist. Her family settled in Jacksonville before the 1840s. She had great-grandfathers who served in the Civil War. She worked at Snowers and Piedmont Executive.
She was a PTO officer, a Brownie and Cub Scout leader and served as homeroom mother for 15 years. She was a Pink Lady with the Jacksonville Hospital Auxiliary for 28 years, serving as treasurer, vice president and president.
She enjoyed camping at Weiss Lake, vacationing in Gulf Shores, and attending the Golden Saw Music Hall. She was an avid Jacksonville State University football fan.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Ford McCrelles Davis; her father, Milas Q. Davis; two brothers, Fred McCrelles and Alfred Q. Davis; a sister, Beatrice McCrelles West; and a daughter-in-law, Roberta Tranthen Parris.
KNIGHT

Services for Sarah Ellen Knight, 61, were at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at Jacksonville Congregational Holiness Church with Revs. Vann Bollinger and James Martin officiating. Burial was in Jacksonville City Cemetery. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge.
Ms. Knight died Jan. 11 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include her mother, Lucille Knight of Jacksonville; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Sandra Knight of Oscoda, Mich., and Wallace and Reba Knight, Edward Knight, and Billy Wayne and Brandy Knight, all of Jacksonville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertie and Rudolph Entrekin and Joyce and Thurman Nix, all of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Archie Nix, Mitchell Nix, Wendell Bragg, Ricky Knight, David Waldrop, Garry Williamson, Ronnie Hollingsworth and Doc Grimes.
Ms. Knight, a Calhoun County native and lifelong resident, attended Jacksonville Congregational Holiness Church. She enjoyed flowers and quilting.
ROBERTS

Services for Elizabeth Louise King Roberts, 83, were at 10 a.m. Jan. 17 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father Alan Mackey officiating. Burial was in Nances Creek First United Methodist Church Cemetery with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center in charge.
Mrs. Roberts died Jan. 14 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Earl Roberts of Jacksonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances Louise and Charles Vogeler of Green wood, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary C. and Sharon King of Oxford; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Scott King, Phillip King, Jason King, Jeremy King, Carl Vogeler, Christopher Vogeler and Timothy Vogeler.
Mrs. Roberts was a native of Covington, Ky., and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and Alexandria Civitan Club.

SMEDLEY

Services for Justin D. Smedley, 16, were at 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at Cornerstone Worship Center in Anniston with Pastor Michael Cox officiating. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens. Miller Funeral Home in Oxford was in charge.
The youth died Jan. 15 at his home.
Survivors include his parents, Edward and Debbie Holcombe Smedley of Jacksonville; a brother, Jeremy Smedley of Jacksonville; his grandparents, Peggy Smedley and Clarence Taylor; and his great-grandfathers, Jake Slaughter and Clarence Taylor Sr.
Pallbearers were ushers and security of Cornerstone Worship Center. Honorary pallbearers were the youth group of Cornerstone Worship Center.
The youth was a member of Cornerstone Worship Center. He was a ninth-grader at Jacksonville High School where he was a member of the choir and drama club. He was an active member of Full Force Youth Ministry and the puppet team at Cornerstone Worship Center.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Shirley Taylor, Brooks Smedley and Monroe and Ruby Holcombe.
STEPHENSON

Services for Grace Talley Stephenson, 94, of Dawson were at 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kevin McCreless and Rev. Tommy Stephenson officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Stephenson died Jan. 15 at her home.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin and Nan Stephenson of Jacksonville, J. O. and Rebecca Stephenson of Kennesaw, Ga., and Tommy and Lorraine Stephenson of Monticello, Miss; three daughters and a son-in-law, Flora and Carl McDaniel of Dawson, Jackie Stephenson and Sybil Lynch, both of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nell and J. T. Brown of Rainsville and Muriel and J.C. Wilks of Fort Payne; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Stephenson enjoyed quilting and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben H. Stephenson and two sons, C. H. Stephenson and James Stephenson.
