HAVENS

Memorial mass for Carol Ann Havens, 72, were at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father Allen Mackey officiating. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge.
Mrs. Havens died Aug. 15 at her home.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Kenneth Todd, Sharon and Michael Wallace and Cynthia and Thomas Martin, all of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Jeremy Wahl, Lawanna Wahl, Joshua Williamson, April Williamson, Jason Wallace and Julie Wallace, and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Havens, a Lancaster, N. Y., native, had lived in Jacksonville since 1976. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and volunteered with the senior citizen center from 2001-02. She retired from Jacksonville State University with 15 years service. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne G. Havens.

JENNINGS

Graveside services with military honors for Raymond Howard Jennings, 73, were at 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at Anniston Memorial Gardens with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge.
Mr. Jennings died Aug. 20 in Birmingham.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Daniel Bowie of Selma,; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny Ray and Rita Jennings of Selma; four grandchildren, Jamie Bowie Stephens, Laurie Bowie Scott, Mallory Reid Jennings and Daniel Logan Jennings; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Green, Helen Billingston and Louise Robinette, all of Anniston; and a brother, Floyd Jennings of Piedmont.
Mr. Jennings was an Alabama native. He retired from the Air Force after serving in Vietnam where he received many awards, commendations and medals, including the Bronze Star for exceptional bravery. He retired from Anniston Army Depot in 2003. Mr. Jennings received an associate degree form Gadsden State Junior College and attended the Air University in Montgomery. He was a life member of the VFW Post 4263 in Piedmont, a life member of DAV Chapter 21 in Piedmont, and a member of his local Masonic Lodge.

JOHNSON

Memorial services for Rev. Dr. Charles Everest Johnson Jr., 78, of Anniston, formerly of Jacksonville, were at 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at The Church of St. Michael & All Angels with Rev. Bruce A. White officiating and Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel in charge.
Dr. Johnson died Aug. 18 in Anniston.
Survivors include his wife, Margery P. Johnson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. and Susan B. Johnson III of Cincinnati, and Samuel William and Luanne L. Johnson of Atlanta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Laurie and Joseph Cece of Raleigh, N.C., and Margaret and John Raymond Torell IV of Bronxville, N. Y.; and 13 grandchildren, Corri Elizabeth Johnson, Sarah Laurie Johnson, Elizabeth Claire Johnson, Patronella Anne Johnson, William Samuel Johnson, Anna Glenn Johnson, Charlotte Anne Cece, Margaret Gentry Cece, Joseph Griffin Cece, Caroline Laurie “Callie” Cece, John Raymond Torell I, Anne Gentry Torell and Jane Keller Torell.
Pallbearers were Mac Burt, Buddy Canup, Lenn Costner Sr., Louis Culver, Tom Harris, David Hodnett, Robert Lokey, Guice Potter, Calvin Pugh and Jerry Watson
Dr. Johnson, a Montgomery native, served in the Navy during World War I. He attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., Union Theological Seminary in New York, and received graduate degrees from the University of Alabama and Duke University.
He taught English for more than 25 years at Tulane, Radford University in Virginia and Jacksonville State University. After being ordained into the priesthood, he served with the Church of the Resurrection in Gadsden and at The Church of St. Michael and All Angels in Anniston until his retirement.
He helped found the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, St. Michael Community Center “The Clinic,” and the local hospice, now New Beacon Hospice, and served on the board for many years. He also served on the Anniston Library Board.

MURPHY

Services for Bruce Edward Murphy, 45, were at 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at Folsom-Mickelsen Funeral Home in Piedmont with Rev. Hayward Clark and Chaplain Don Hamilton of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office officiating. Burial with full police officer honors was in the family lot of the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Mr. Murphy died Aug. 17 in Jacksonville.
Survivors include his wife, Deanna Jennings Murphy; a son, Bruce Jennings “B.J.” Murphy of Jacksonville; three daughters, Brooke Louise Murphy of Jacksonville and Marsha Lynn Murphy and Jennifer Gowens, both of Piedmont; his mother, Shirley Marie Murphy of Piedmont; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Tommy D. and Gayle Murphy, Kirby G. and Donna Murphy, and Gary Murphy, all of Piedmont, and Danny and Deborah Murphy of Gadsden; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Vickie Sanford of Piedmont and Kathy and Chester Berry of Gadsden; his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Jennings of Piedmont; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were members of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding police agencies.
Mr. Murphy, a Gadsden native, was a member of the Day Star Ministries. He was a deputy sheriff with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and a member of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. “Harmon” Murphy.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
MURRAY

Services for Tommy Wayne Murray, 55, were at 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel with Don Boozer, Steve Powell and Rev. William Cain officiating. Burial was in White’s Gap Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Murray of Jacksonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Max Butler of Anniston; a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Jackie Murray of Jacksonville; two nieces, a nephew, two great-nieces and two great-nephews.
Pallbearers were Jim Austin, Buddy Raulerson, Steve Powell, Mike Caulder, Lamar McCrelles, Steve Goggan and Nick Murray. Honorary pallbearers were the Arthur Horton Class of 1967.
Mr. Murray was a Jacksonville native and lifelong resident. He was preceded in death by his father, W. Levi Murray.
TRAMMELL

Graveside services for Margaret Pauline Dear Trammell, 86, were at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston with Rev. David Swinney and Chad Brown officiating. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary was in charge.
Mrs. Trammell died Aug. 17 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret Gayle and Dr. Wayne Barry Lust of North Swickley, Pa., and Mary Ann Trammell Riley of Jacksonville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Diane Trammell and Bob and Susan Trammell, all of Ohatchee; 19 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Keith Burgess, Chris Burgess, Tommy McCloud, Robby McCloud, Mark Williams, Gary Pykus, Bradley Waterhouse and George Redding.
Mr. Trammell, a Calhoun county native and lifelong resident, retired from the Calhoun County Tax Assessors Office and the Calhoun County Board of Registrars with 37 years service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Trammell.
