HAMMETT

Services for Roy Clay Hammett, 93, will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel with Allen Webster officiating. Burial will be in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hammett died Aug 15 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Glenda Hammett of Jacksonville; a daughter-in-law, DeeAnn Hammett of Jacksonville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jonathan and Suzanne Hammett, Lisa and Rick Brown, Lynn and Joseph Estes, Rita and Mark Ledoux and Jennifer and Mark Denis; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bob Prado, Jimmy Logan, Doug Rich, Gene Horton, Haskew Kelly and Gary Bragg.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Hammett, Ralph Hammett, Bernard Hammett, Huse Erwin, Homer Barnwell, J. C. Gallahar, Bill Kelley and Billy K. Smith.
Mr. Hammett was the oldest member of Jacksonville Church of Christ, having been a member for 50 years.
He was retired from M&H Valve.
He played on the Profile baseball team in the 1920s and was a semi-professional baseball player in the 1930s. He enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Hammett was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Young Hammett, and a son, Larry C. Hammett.
HAVENS

Memorial mass for Carol Ann Havens, 72, will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father Allen Mackey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 19 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Mrs. Havens died Aug. 15 at her home.

COOPER

Services for Audrey Helen Turner Cooper, 76, were at 11 a.m. July 30 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden with Rev. Garry Brown officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz.
Mrs. Cooper died July 27.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice and Max Kirby of Jacksonville; a brother and sister-in-law, William Ray and Hilda Turner of Magnolia Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were friends and family members.
Mrs. Cooper, a Marshall County native and longtime Gadsden resident, had lived in Jacksonville six years. She enjoyed crocheting angels. She was a member of North Gadsden Methodist Church. She retired as a nurse.
DAUGHERTY

Services for Judge William “Buddy” Daugherty, 74, were at 7 p.m. July 31 at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, with Rev. Tommy Ferguson officiating. Private funeral services were held Aug. 1. Collier-Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Daugherty died July 28.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn J. Garrard Daugherty; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Annette Daugherty of Jacksonville; Steve and Janet Daugherty of Knightville, N. C.; Dennis and Connie Daugherty of Glencoe and Keith and Arlen Daugherty of Milton, Fla.; two sisters, Ruby Turner and Ruth Turner of Gadsden; 16 grandchildren, and two foster grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
As a member of the Army Air Force, Mr. Daugherty was a staff sergeant in the South Pacific. He retired from The Gadsden Times in 1994. He began his career at the Times as a printer. In keeping with the change from the hot lead method of printing a paper to computers, he went back to school at the age of 48. When he retired he was in charge of maintaining the computer systems at the paper. He was a charter member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, where he served as an officer. He was president of the Glencoe Sportsmen’s Club and was an active member of the Glencoe community. Mr. Daugherty was preceded in death by his parents, Walter W. and Ophelia McGinnis Daugherty.
HARTLEY

Services for Brian Keith Hartley, 41, were at 10 a.m. July 29 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with Rev. Derrick Hartley officiating. Burial was in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hartley died from injuries sustained in a two-car wreck July 26 in Birmingham.
Survivors include his partner, Randy West of Birmingham; his parents, Felix and Kallie Hartley of Birmingham; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Derrick and Leigh Ann Hartley of Jacksonville and Chris and Allie Hartley of Birmingham; a niece and nephew, Chance and Clair Hartley of Jacksonville; his grandmothers, Velma Guthrie Barton of Haleyville and Dene West of Tuscaloosa; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mr. Hartley’s supervisor, Elizabeth Wallace, executive director for UAB external relations, said he will be remembered in a yet-to-be-scheduled memorial service at the Alys Stephens Center.
“He has touched so many people,” said Ms. Wallace. “Everyone who knew Brian thought he or she was Brian’s best friend. And you know, we all were. That was how big Brian’s heart was. I think he was the brightest spot in all our lives.”
Mr. Hartley was born in Fayetteville, N. C. He was a graduate of Tarrant High School and was employed with UAB as a special events coordinator. He had a strong faith in God. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Wynonna Guthrie Hartley.

MATTHEWS

Services for Linda Lou Matthews, 61, were at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 at Chapel Hill Chapel in Anniston with Rev. Truman Norred officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Matthews died July 31 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Danny Matthews of Jacksonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jodi J. and Eric Morgan of Birmingham; a step-daughter and her husband, Leah and Tim Cheatwood of Oxford; a son and daughter-in-law, Todd J. and Teresa Wilson of Atlanta; a sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Terry Isler of Jamestown, N.C.; a brother, Ted Fox of Franklin, Pa.; five grandchildren, Tyler Wilson Foster, Courtney Wilson, Kaitlyn Morgan, Katie Lou Wilson and Jamie Bolton; and one nephew.
Pallbearers were Jerry Wilson, Mikeal Barrett, Danny Whited, Phillip Fields, Eddie Warren and Ron Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were the Winn-Dixie pharmacy staff of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Matthews was a native of Warren, Ohio, and had been a resident of Jacksonville for the past 28 years. She was a former employee of Sunny King Ford. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church.
