Graveside services for Charles Scott Romine, 39, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at Hill Crest Cemetery with Rev. Renee Carroll officiating and K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center in charge.
Mr. Romine died Jan. 29 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden.
Survivors include his lifetime companion, Todd Frost of Jacksonville; three sisters, Janice Broughton of Jacksonville, April Abernathy of Piedmont and Pat Kimer of Houston; and two brothers, Tim Romine of Jacksonville and Ricky Romine of Piedmont.
Mr. Romine, a lifelong Calhoun County resident, was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Brownie Romine, and two brothers, Donald Wayne Romine and Jimmi Romine.

WEST

Services for Hubert Jacob West, 90, were at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 at K. L. Brown FuneralHome and Cremation Center with Revs. Terry Johnson and Scott Smith officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. West died Feb. 1 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn West Andrews and Linda West Beavers, both of Jacksonville; two sisters, Sue Thackerson and Eunice Wilson, both of Jacksonville a brother, Clyde West of Gadsden; a grandson, Mike Beavers and his wife, Lori; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Seymour West III, Jimmy Littlejohn, Rod Littlejohn, Sonny Thackerson, Mike Thackerson, Doug Trantham, David Trantham and Art Sevelius.
Mr. West, a Calhoun County native and lifelong resident, was a member of West Point Baptist Church. A World War II Army veteran, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels for six years. He was volunteer of the Year in 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle West; his parents, Elihu and Emma West; two sisters, Corinne Littlejohn and Ruby Bradley; and two brothers, Seymour West Sr., and Charlie West.

WHEELER

Services for Ralph Rogers Wheeler, 86, were at 11 a.m. Jan. 30 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Margaret Northen officiating. Burial was in Jacksonville City Cemetery. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge.
Mr. Wheeler died Jan. 27 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Manners Wheeler; a daughter, Susan E. Wheeler of Jacksonville; a son and daughter-in-law, William Richard and Ann Wheeler of Centennial, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Ralph Wheeler III, Adam Wheeler and Andrew Wheeler.
Pallbearers were nephews. Honorary pallbearers were members of Cheaha Chapter American Ex-POWs.
Mr. Wheeler was a member of Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. A World War I and Korean Army veteran, he was captured on Corregidor in May 1942 and held prisoner in Japan from November 1942-September 1945.
He served in the Air Force from 1947 until he retired in 1961. He was a member of F&AM Lodge No. 757 in Birmingham, American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor and Cheaha Chapter American Ex-POWs.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Rogers Wheeler Jr.
Burgess, Margaret Sue

Services for Margaret Sue Burgess, 83, of Wellington, were at 11 a.m. Feb. 5 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel with Rev. Lawson Garrett officiating. Burial was in Union Methodist Cemetery in Wellington.
Mrs. Burgess died Feb. 3 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Elaine Burgess and Alton and Donna Burgess, all of Wellington; three sisters, Mary Lou Almaroad and Louise Key, both of Jacksonville, and Frances Bright of Wellington; two grandchildren, Tia Allen and Spencer Burgess; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were J. W. Burgess, Wallace Almaroad, Terry Sams, Lynn Sams, Glenn Bright, Doug Barksdale, Spencer Burgess and Denton Harden.
Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Burgess; a sister, Ivey Burgess; and four brothers, Cleve Sams, Johnny Haskell Sams, Gene Sams and Ed Sams.
Murphy, Phyllis

Services for Phyllis Murphy, 77, of Anniston were at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kent Mattox officiating. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include two daughters, Annette Estes of Jacksonville and Shelia Bryant of Anniston; two sons, Phil Murphy and David Murphy of Anniston; a sister, Ann Copeland of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Mary Petrishen of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, LaGran Copeland, Josh Copeland, Zack Thrasher, Clint Murphy, Cliff Murphy, Joey Estes and Donn Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Bryant, Rodney Estes, Jimmy McBride, David Bromley and Frankie Carpenetti.
A native of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Murphy lived in Calhoun County for the past 55 years. She was a former employee of Regional Alcohol and Substance Abuse and Seafood World. She was a member of World Alive International Outreach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Murphy, and a son, Billy Copeland.

Phillips, Mildred "Sis" Ellen

Services for Mildred “Sis” Ellen Phillips, 78, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center chapel with Carter Jones and Rev. Jonathan Fitizpatrick officiating. Burial was in Jacksonville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips died Feb. 3 at University Hospital in Birmingham.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Harold Rhodes of Jacksonville, Doris and Bobby Sweatt of Glencoe, Martha and Charles Pate of Moody and Theresa and Darryl Clemmer of Webster’s Chapel; a sister, Ruth Gaines of Oxford; 10 grandchildren, Susan Adams, Regina Bailey, Tara Turnmire, Terry Sweatt, Dwayne Sweatt, Vickie Sweatt, Miranda Clemmer, Selena Hall, Sonia Powell and Kristen Hester; 13 great-grandchildren, Zane, Zack and Zade Adams, Donovan, Dillion and Dawson Turnmire; Brianna Bailey, Alex Hester, Destiny, Brooke and Ashton Sweatt and Taylor and Trey Adams; several nieces and nephews; and her caregivers, Judy Williams and Anna Bell Phillips.
Pallbearers were grandsons Terry Sweatt, Dwayne Sweatt, Mark Adams, Marc Turnmire, Jayme Bailey and Rick Powell.
Mrs. Phillips enjoyed jigsaw and word puzzles and attending gospel singings and playing bingo at the Jacksonville Senior Citizens Group. She also enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlis “Bug” Phillips; two children, Barbara Phillips and Scotty Phillips, and four brothers, Guy Young, Cecil Young, George Young and Ed Young.
