Bennett

BREMEN, Ga. – Services for Hershell P. Bennett, 67, of Bremen, Ga., will be 1 p.m. EST today at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with Elder Homer Benefield and Rev. Brent Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Bennett died Wednesday.

Survivors include his wife, Janeth Richards Bennett; two sons and their wives, Jeff and Anna Richards, and Joel and Leslie Richards, all of Carrollton, Ga.; a daughter and her husband, DeAnn and Tim Robison of Roopville; a brother and his wife, Hurtis and Jean Bennett of Bremen; two brothers-in-law, Thomas B. Murphy of Bremen and O.E. Smith of Rockmart, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Benefield, Tim Robison, Jeff Richards, Danny Crook, Joel Richards, Floyd King, Timmie Gantt and Jeff Jones.

Mr. Bennett, a Calhoun County native, was a member of Waco Baptist Church.

Gunnels

PIEDMONT – Services for Irola M. Gunnels, 95, of Piedmont will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home with Revs. Eric Justice, Ray Biggs and Danny English officiating. Burial will be in Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gunnels died Thursday at her home.

Survivors include two daughters, Myra Jo Giles of Piedmont and Duane Biggs and her husband, Ray, of Atmore; a son and his wife, Billy Ray and Norma Gunnels of Piedmont; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Mobley, Jimmy Ray Mobley, Todd Mobley, Chad Mobley, Chuck Gunnels and Jason Willis.

Mrs. Gunnels, a Blount County native and longtime Piedmont resident, was Methodist. She retired from SCT Yarn with 31 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vennie Monroe Gunnels, and a daughter, Mary Helen Willis.

Holcombe

HEFLIN – Services for Orvell Madison Holcombe, 85, of Heflin will be 11 a.m. today at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Howell officiating. Burial will be in Heflin City Cemetery with Dryden Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Holcombe died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Alred of Heflin; a brother-in-law and his wife, Roy and Gayle Bachus of Oxford, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Gary Cheatwood, Gary Fields, Paul Gay, Jimmy Wayne McLeroy, Earl Morrison, Ken Yancy and C.O. Sheets.

Mr. Holcombe was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County, and had worked as an inspector. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Anniston Army Depot. He was a member of Caldwell Masonic Lodge and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Bachus Holcombe.

Martin

MILLERVILLE – Services for James Elwyn Martin, 74, of Millerville will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Millerville Baptist Church with Revs. Steve Dyess and Jim Arnall officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30-8 tonight at Clay County Funeral Home. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Martin died Friday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, LaJean Patterson Martin; two daughters, LaResa Griffin and her husband, Ryan, of Alexander City and LeaAnn Stewart of Millerville; a son and his wife, Dwayne and Delilah Martin of Millerville; and four grandchildren, Kristi Stewart, LaCresha Griffin, Amanda Martin and Brandy Martin.

Mr. Martin, a Clay County native and lifelong resident, attended Millerville Baptist Church. An Army veteran, he retired as a dairy farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Graves and Vera Heard Martin; a sister, Paula Dick; and two brothers, John D. Martin and Tommy Martin.

O’Hern
12-11-2004

Services for Teresa McMichael O’Hern, 54, of Anniston will be 2 p.m. today at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary & Crematory with Rev. Greg Jones officiating. Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery.

Ms. O’Hern died Thursday in Anniston.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte A. Johnston of Anniston; a son, David Richard O’Hern II and his wife, Linda, of Anniston; her mother, Barbara H. McMichael of Oxford; two sisters, Charlotte Wade of Oxford and Diane Seales of Ohatchee; and two grandchildren, Haley Nicole O’Hern and Aylssa Breana O’Hern.

Pallbearers will be William Johnston, Chris Wade, Shane Seales, Brandon Pinson, Chris Bussey and Nathaniel Parker. Honorary pallbearers the second shift, 7th floor nurses at Regional Medical Center.

Ms. O’Hern, an Anniston native and lifelong resident, was a nurse at Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her father, William Howard McMichael; and a grandchild, William Ruben Johnston II.

Sheilds

BALL PLAY – Services for Joseph Sheilds, 41, of Ball Play will be announced by Thompson Funeral Home in Piedmont.

Mr. Sheilds died Friday at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Skinner

Services for Lillar Morris Skinner, 91, of Anniston will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary & Crematory with Rev. William Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Skinner died Thursday at her home.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Honeycutt and her husband, Jack, and Shela Skinner, all of Montgomery, and Joan Carter and her husband, John, of Anniston; three sons, Ray Skinner and her husband, Mary, and Van Skinner, all of Anniston, and Paul Skinner and his wife, Julie, of Riverside, Calif.; a sister, Buelah Griffis of Newnan, Ga.; a brother, Toi Morris of Newnan; 14 grandchildren, John Carter Jr., Karen Carter Barnett, Sherry Skinner Pettus, Carl Skinner, Rhonda Wilkerson, Ray Skinner Jr., April Kelly, Chad Skinner, Michael Honeycutt, Amy Honeycutt, Joey Skinner, Kevin Skinner, Kelly Skinner and Raymond Skinner; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mrs. Skinner, a longtime Anniston resident, was a member of First Baptist Church of Anniston. She taught Bible Study in the Calhoun County Jail Ministry for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Nelson Skinner; and two sons, Arthur Skinner and Don Skinner.
