Jean L. Ridlbauer

Graveside services for Jean L. Ridlbauer, 66, were at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 9 at Jacksonville City Cemetery with Revs. Burt Breland and Bob Ford officiating and Thompson Funeral Home of Piedmont in charge.
Mrs. Ridlbauer died Aug. 7 at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, John M. Ridlbauer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Anne and Tony Bundrum of Oxford and Terri and Millard Champion of Jacksonville; two sons, Donald Ridlbauer and Tommy Ridlbauer, both of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Sumer Champion, Mandy Champion, Jeannie Bundrum and Jamie Bundrum; and a great-grandchild, Elijah W. Bundrum.

Pallbearers were Tony Bundrum, Millard Champion, Mike Hindman, Ed Jordan, Coy Callender and Joey Harrell. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult 4 Co-ed Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ridlbauer, a Jacksonville native and lifelong resident, was a member of First Baptist Church.

She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1956. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney B. and Nell Leonard Scott, and a brother, Loman Leonard.

Contributions may be made to Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center or the building fund at First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 400, Jacksonville 36265.

Pete Turner

Services for Pete Turner, 82, of Burlington, N. C., were Aug. 8 at McClure Funeral Service. McClure Funeral Service in Graham, N. C., was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Turner died Aug. 5 after two years of failing health.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ford Turner, formerly of Jacksonville; two daughters, Vicky Church and Donna Turner; two sons, Billy Turner and Rick Turner; his grandchildren, Tammy and Randy Robbins, Bart and Cathy Church Norman, Craig Turner, Nicole and Dave Stewart, Courtney and Derek Brooks; his great-grandchildren, Jakob Turner Robbins and Elijah Turner Norman; and two sisters, Frances Horne and Inez Rudd.

A native of Pleasant Grove, N. C., he spent most of his life in Burlington and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Preston Turner and Fannie Vincent Turner.

He was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II and earned the Combat Infantry badge.

He served in the 79th Infantry Division. As a part of the European Campaign, he earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the ETO Service Medal with Silver Staff, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also awarded the World War II Victory Medal for his efforts.

He gave his grandson his first salute when he graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy. He captured his World War II experiences in his book, The Gold Star Mothers. He was a knitter, handyman, remodeling contractor and author.

JOHNSON

Services for Catherine Mary Murphy Johnson, 63, were at 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at Green lawn Memorial Gardens with Father Bob Sullivan officiating. K. L.. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge.

Mrs. Johnson died Aug. 30 at Regional Medical Center Hospital.

Survivors include her half-sister, Josephine Lane of Kent, England; three daughters, Valerie Johnson Powell of Dallas, Donna Johnson Holman of Ballston Spa, N. Y.., and Noreen Johnson of Oxford; a son, Richard Johnson; five granddaughters, Victoria Brogan, Veronica Powell, Candace Holman, Cassiopeia Holman and Kathleen Johnson; and a grandson, James Pettitt Jr.

Mrs. Johnson was born in New York City. She was a veteran of the Women’s Army Corp and enjoyed reading and cats. As a longtime resident of Jacksonville, she earned three master’s degrees from Jacksonville State University. She as preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Nora Murphy, originally of Brosna, Ireland; a sister, Elizabeth Murphy of New Hyde Park, N.Y.; and her husband, Master Sgt. (ret.) Noel James Johnson of Kalamazoo, Mich.

NOAH

Services for Jimmy John Noah, 65, were at 11 a.m. Sept. 2 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with Rev. Garry Brown and Dr. Deryl Wood officiating. Burial was in Post Oak Springs Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Noah died Aug. 30 at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Wynell Johnson Noah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Rhonda Noah and Phillip and Pam Noah, all of Jacksonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Rick Adams of Jacksonville and Laura “LuLu” and Larry Webb of Piedmont a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Johnny Stephens of Jacksonville; his mother, Doris M. Noah-Jennings of Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren, Corey Roberts, Janna Roberts, Emily Noah, Jeffery Noah, Kyle Webb, Paige Webb, Ethan Noah and Brett Noah.

Pallbearers were Larry Webb, Rick Adams, Randall Stephens, Corey Roberts, Shod McGinnis, Earl Sutley, Ronald Allsup and Lynn Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons.

Mr. Noah, a Calhoun County native and lifelong resident, was a member of Post Oak Springs Baptist Church.

He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., in Gadsden and owned and operated Noah’s Tanning Salon for the past 11 years. He enjoyed traveling and camping.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Parker

Services for Elizabeth “Betsy” Parker, 88, of Glencoe, formerly of Jacksonville, were at 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Revs. Ronald White and Larry Wooten officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Parker died Aug. 6 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Sybil Parker and Dewey and Nancy Parker, all of Jacksonville, James and Carolyn Parker of Huntsville, Samuel and Barbara Parker of Addison and Irie and Kathryn Parker of Chelen, Wash.; a sister, Irene Taylor of Jacksonville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Huse and Lorene Erwin and Andrew Erwin, all of Jacksonville; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were grandchildren.

Mrs. Parker was a Calhoun County native and longtime resident. Mrs. Parker enjoyed quilting.

A former resident of Stone Creek, she volunteered with the RSVP program. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Parker.

BARNWELL

Services for Mary Lonette Barnwell, 72, were at 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Revs. Gene Bledsoe and Alton Parris officiating. Burial was in Jacksonville City Ceme-tery.

Mrs. Barnwell died Aug. 4 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years Carl Barnwell; a daughter, Adelia Barnwell of Jacksonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Charlotte Barnwell of Jacksonville; two sisters, Glenda McWhorter and Marjorie Camp, both of Anniston; three brothers, Carl Wilkins, Jackie Wilkins and James E. “Sonny” Wilkins, all of Jacksonville; and two grandchildren, Amy Barnwell and Amber Parris her husband, Lee.

Mrs. Barnwell enjoyed yard sales and gardening. She attended Emmanuel Holiness Church of Jacksonville. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary at Jacksonville Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Sula Wilkins; and a son, Harold Joel Barnwell.
