H.O. “Pat” Patterson
H.O. “Pat” Patterson, 72, of Jay, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in a Jay hospital after an extended illness. A native of Loango and a former resident of Andalusia, he was a retired owner/operator of Patterson Produce Trucking company and was of the Presbyterian faith. A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. P. J. McCung officiating. Burial will follow in Weaver Cemetery.

A, B. “Beda” Odom, 84, of the Antioch community, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2000, in an Opp hospital. A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Antioch Church Cemetery.
Odis J. “Duke” DuBose
Odis J. “Duke” DuBose, 75, of Andalusia, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at his residence. A funeral was held Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Kelley officiating. A eulogy was provided by a granddaughter, Jennifer Palmer. Burial followed in Old Mormon Tabernacle at Pine Level. Memorial contributions may be made to Countryside Hospice.

Marvilois Longmire Pounders, 68, of Hartselle, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was a member of Westview Church of Christ and a homemaker. A funeral was held Sunday, Dec. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andrew Duke and David Hartsell officiating. Burial followed in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Sallie Brigham Wilson
Sallie Brigham Wilson, 96, of Brewton, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at her residence after an extended illness. A native of Monroe County, she moved to Brewton 72 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church. A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Greer and Rev. James Aubrey Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery.

Herman Pittman, 68, of the Coldwater community, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at her residence. A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home. Ruth Briggs, 62, of Port Orange, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in a Port Orange hospital. Born in Andalusia, she moved to Port Orange in 1995 from Milton, Fla. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Andalusia. A funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Grayson officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Leah Mae Braun, 74, of Opp, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in a Dothan hospital. Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home. Burial will follow Monday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. at Live Oak Cemetery in Crestview, Fla.
Harry Elmer Murray
Harry Elmer Murray, 37, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, in Dothan after an extended illness. Born on September 19, 1963 in Sodus, N.Y., he was the son of Robert B. and Ann (Smith) Murray. He graduated from North Rose Wolcott High School in N.Y. and served in the U.S. Army for the next four years as a medic in San Antonio, Texas. Later, he was active in counseling youth and as a mental health worker at Presbyterian Children’s Village in the Green wich Home for Children and Woodbridge Child Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Philadelphia, Pa. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1970. A funeral was held in North Rose, New York. Burial will be in the South Butler Cemetery in New York in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Lowman Merrill, 79, of Dozier, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her residence. A funeral will be held Thursday, March 1, 2001, at the Dozier Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Cassady officiating. Timothy Michael Hildreth
Timothy Michael Hildreth, 42, of Sandersville, Ga., died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Pima Co., Ariz., he was an electrician by trade and was a former employee of Lapp Insulator. Mr. Hildreth was also an Army veteran. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville with Rev. Charles Price officiating. Annas W. Burke of Mobile County, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at her residence. A native of Red Level, she was a member of Brownsville Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla., the Pythian Sisters and the Rebeccas. A funeral will be held Sunday, March 11, at 4 p.m. at Fairmont Baptist Church in Red Level. Visitation will be Sunday, March 11, from 2 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Charley West
Charley West, 76, Mississippi, formerly of Opp, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in a Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. Mr. West, a native of Opp, had lived in Mississippi since 1931. He was in the paper and packaging business for 51 years. He served in World War II in Europe and the South Pacific. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and he attended Colonial Heights Baptist Church. A funeral was held at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson, Miss. Burial followed in Lakewood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, Miss. 39157.
William Clifford Smith
William Clifford Smith, 59, of Dozier, died Friday, March 2, 2001, in an Opp hospital. He was employed with the Maintenance Department of the City of Andalusia School system, as well as a veteran of Vietnam and a member of Weed Baptist Church. A funeral was held Sunday, March 4, at 3:30 p.m. at Weed Baptist Church with Rev. Buster Odom and Rev. Charles Dyess officiating. Music was provided by Freida Bradshaw accompanied by Mrs. Charles Dyess and Mary Grimes, pianist. Burial followed in Veasey Chapel Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing.

Enos Fillmore White, 78, of Spartanburg, S.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at a Spartanburg hospital. A native of Cleveland, Tenn., he was a member of the Morningside Baptist Church of Spartanburg, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Graveside services were held Thursday, Feb. at 10 a.m. at the Glenhaven Cemetery in Winter Park, Fla.

Kate Walters Lynch
Kate Walters Lynch, 85, of Niagra Falls, N.Y., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at her residence. An avid Atlanta Braves Baseball fan, she was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Edgar and Lizzie Walters. She moved to Niagra Falls in 1951. In 1973, she moved to Mobile, where she operated Kate’s Restaurant until 1981 when she returned to Niagra Falls to live with her daughter, Vivian Augustyniak and family. She was employed for 5 years as an inspector at the Alatex Co. in Andalusia. While living in Niagra Falls, she worked as a cook and waitress at the former Jimmy Doyle Restaurant and at the Wayside Coffee Shop until 1973. A funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at Jones Chapel with Rev. George Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flatrock Community Center.

Leland L. Hughes, 69, of Dozier, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Aaron and Rev. Earl Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. Turner Funeral Home of Luverne will direct. Visitation will be at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

Elizabeth L. Barton, 92, of Birmingham, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in a Birmingham hospital after a short illness. She was born in Suffolk County, virginia, and was educated at Judson College and the University of Richmond. For many years she lived in Columbus Ga., and taught at the Columbus High School. Her father was Dr. L.E. Barton, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. Graveside services will be held Friday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Joel Faircloth officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. The family requests that memorial contributions be made the the First Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga.

Jeanne Morgan Smyly, 69, of Alabaster, formerly of Andalusia and Sweetwater, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in an Alabaster nursing facility. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and taught for 30 years in the Andalusia Elementary Schools. A funeral will be held Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. David Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, March 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.
