Frances “Fannie” Hodge McLelland, 95, of Andalusia, died Monday, June 4, 2001, in an Andalusia health care facility. A funeral was held Tuesday, June 5, at 3 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Freeman officiating. Burial followed in the old Bethesada Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Victory Baptist Church or to the charity of one’s choice.

Vera Maddox Dozier, 89, of Andalusia, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in a local nursing home. A funeral will be held Saturday, May 26, at 3:30 p.m. at Liberty Home Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Kelley, Rev. Bill Boles and Rev. Buddy Mohon officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the church 30 minutes prior to services.
Alfred Edison Adams Sr.
Alfred Edison Adams Sr., 82, of Andalusia, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Woody Clark officiating. Private graveside services will be held later. Visitation will be Saturday, May 26, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Judson Ward Jr.
Judson Ward Jr., 84, of Andalusia died Friday, May 25, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A graveside funeral service was held Sunday, May 27, with Rev. Joel Faircloth officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery.
B.B. Norris
B.B. Norris, 78, of Andalusia died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in a Dothan hospital. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He also served as fire chief for the City of Andalusia for many years before his retirement. A funeral was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Miller and Rev. Dennis Knowles officiating. Special music was provided by East Highland Baptist Church Choir accompanied by Rosemary Mills. Burial will follow at Stone Lake Cemetery.
Horace D. “Durwood” Davis
Horace D. “Durwood” Davis, 64, of Andalusia died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at his residence. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at Carolina Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating and eulogy delivered by Coy Yates. Burial will be in the Carolina Cemetery.

Twinette Thompson, 83, of Andalusia, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at her residence. A funeral will be held Saturday, May 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Pigeon Creek Cemetery.

Thomas A. Bryan, 76, of Andalusia, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at his residence. A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at 3 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in the Bullock community of Crenshaw County with Rev. Mark Ward and Rev. Wilson Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

Minnie Parmer Syler, 74, of Andalusia, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, in a Dothan hospital. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church where a Sunday School Class was named in her honor. She was a teacher at Andalusia High School and Andalusia Middle School until her retirement. A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Miller and Rev. Earl Currenton officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Barry Wilkerson officiating. Music was provided by Janna Foshee, pianist. Burial followed in Buck Creek Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing.

Mildred Olene Thompson
Mildred Olene Thompson, 75, of Crestview, Fla., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at the West Florida Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Gantt on June 28, 1925, to John K. and Phenie Bracewell Harrelson and had been a resident of the Northwest Florida area since 1958. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crestview, the Senior Friends and The McDonald’s Friends Group. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Thompson, the late manager of Alatex of Crestview. Mrs. Thompson was a retired L.P.N. and had been employed with the Florala Memorial Hospital. A funeral will be held Friday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at Whitehurst Funeral Home in Crestview with Rev. Dr. Dick Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Liveoak Park Cemetery in Crestview. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Thompson.

Billy Soles, 70, of Andalusia, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. He was a retiree of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Omar C. “O.C.” Moore
Omar C. “O.C.” Moore, 94, of Auburn, died Friday, June 15, 2001. He was retired with 31 years of service for Auburn University as a Professor of Chemical Engineering. He co-authored, Engineering Metallurgy, a Chemical Engineering textbook for Auburn University. His Chemical Engineering Research Papers were published in Washington D.C. He was a member of the Phi Lambda Upsilon Honorary and a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Auburn since 1926, where he served as an active Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday Schools and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In addition, he taught Bible Classes at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Lake Martin. He served the City of Auburn on the Planning and Zoning Board. He enjoyed gardening and fishing at Lake Martin. Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, at 2 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel in Opelika. Burial followed in Auburn Memorial Park. Rev. Roy Hill of Woodstock officiated. William “Bill” Payne of Crawfordville, Fla. was the soloist.
Talmadge Chambers
Talmadge Chambers, 80, of Florala, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in a Crestview, Fla., hospital. A native of Covington County, he was the son of the late Joseph George Chambers and Ellena McCraney Chambers. A veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, he later was a resident of Montgomery, where he was connected in sales with a heavy equipment dealer. Following his retirement, he returned to Florala. He was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Florala and was a charter member of the Royal Ambassador young people group of the church many years ago. A funeral will be held Thursday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home in Florala with Rev. Terry Rainwater of First Baptist Church in Florala officiating. Burial will follow in Damascus Cemetery.

George E. “Ed” Grantham, 81, a native of Covington County, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at his residence in Miami Springs, Fla. Mr. Grantham had resided in Miami Springs for the past fifty years.
