Gordon “Ellis” Herring, 73, of Montgomery, formerly of Andalusia, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2001, in a Montgomery hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Foreman Funeral Home.

Effie G. Bass
Effie G. Bass, 67, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in a Crestview, Fla. hospital. A native of Samson, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Ada Locke Gautney. She was a clerk in a convenience store until ill health forced her retirement. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Tony Windham
Tony Windham, 46, of Evergreen, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at Sepulga Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Curenton and Rev. Ronnie Jackson officiating. Special music was provided by Sharon McCreary.

Kathy Hicks
Kathy Hicks, 45, of Andalusia, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A funeral was held Monday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Meadows officiating. Special music was provided by Nikki Bracewell accompanied by Helen Harwell. Burial followed in Zion Hill Church Cemetery.

Octavious Holland
Octavious Holland, 68, of Andalusia, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his residence. He was an Air Force veteran. A funeral was held Monday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Ganus officiating. Special music was provided by Kandy Nobles. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites.

John George Brooks
John George Brooks, 80, of Andalusia, formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at his residence. He was a police officer with the U.S. Government until his retirement. A Memorial Service will be held in the family plot in Haverhill, Mass.

Kenneth W. Phinney Sr.
Kenneth W. Pinney Sr., 65, of Andalusia, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at his residence. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and he served in the U.S. Army. A funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Cole and Rev. John Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Care Hospice, P.O. Box 310790, Enterprise, AL 36331.

Norma Chiappero Rodriguez
Norma Chiappero Rodriguez, 83, of Austin, Texas, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001. A funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services followed at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.

Woodrow Busbee
Woodrow Busbee, 83, of Andalusia, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gantt with Rev. Wayne Sharpe and Rev. Leonard Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Able Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home and at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

John George Brooks
John George Brooks, 80, of Andalusia, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Foreman Funeral Home.

Palmer Morgan
Palmer Morgan, 78, of Lakeland, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, in a Lakeland hospital. He was born in Covington County and was a welder and fabricator for food machinery in Lakeland. He was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Army. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Gentry-Morrison Southside Funeral Home in Lakeland. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gentry-Morris Southside.

Eva Bass Rodgers
Eva Bass Rodgers, 98, of Andalusia, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in an Andalusia nursing facility. A funeral was held Thursday, Aug. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Carolina Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Music was provided by Rebecca Wiggins and Gloria Riley accompanied by Joy Sowards. Burial followed in Carolina Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery or Church building fund, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Jewel Mildred DeBord
Jewel Mildred DeBord, 75, of Bonifay, Fla., died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, in a Panama City, Fla. hospital. A funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. at Peel Funeral Home in Bonifay with Rev. Melvin Hughes officiating. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Teresa Cleghorn Evans
Teresa Cleghorn Evans, 44, of Andalusia, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at her residence. A funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Eva Bass Rodgers
Eva Bass Rodgers, 98, of Andalusia, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in an Andalusia nursing facility. A funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Carolina Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the church, 30 minutes prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery or Church building fund, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Minnie Lou Walker Kilpatrick
Minnie Lou Walker Kilpatrick, 80, of Andalusia, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in an Andalusia nursing facility. She was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church and was a retiree of Alatex Laundry. A funeral will be held Sunday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Northside Baptist Church.

Minnie Matilda Neal Mitchell
Minnie Matilda Neal Mitchell, 76, of Red Level, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in a Georgia hospital. A funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Hendrix and Rev. Woodrow Plant officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery.

Roscoe Martin
Roscoe Martin, 90, of Andalusia, formerly of Birmingham, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in a Niceville, Fla. nursing home. Mr. Martin was born and raised in the Wellington community of Calhoun County. He moved to Birmingham and worked with the Seaboard-Coastline RR for 37 years. He had been an active member of Avondale Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Deacon and Elder. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. at Forest Hills Cemtery in Birmingham. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, Attn: Grants and Contributions, 1236 Ginger Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., 23456.

Claude H. “Buddy” Frazier Jr.
Claude H. “Buddy” Frazier Jr., 53, of Andalusia, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at his residence. A funeral will be held Sunday, Sept. 2, at 3:30 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Faircloth officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to any of the local Hospice organizations.

James Riley “Andjo” Williams
James Riley “Andjo” Williams, 69, of Red Level, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at his residence. A funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Max Lisenby officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 2, after 6 p.m.

Clarice J. Gantt
Clarice J. Gantt, of Niagra Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, in Crestwood Health Care Center, in the Town of Wheatfield, after a short illness. Born in Geneva on April 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Ernie and Eula (Wright) Jones. She attended schools in Alabama and graduated from Florala High School. She resided in Niagra Falls for 11 years. Mrs. Gantt was employed for several years in the Andalusia area for a shirt factory and in Winterhaven, Fla. for a grocery store. A member of the LaSalle Church of Christ, she enjoyed crafts, crocheting and quilting. She was a very family and church oriented woman. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. at Cold Water Cemetery with Bro. Terry Stewart officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home.

Amanda Suzette Lunsford
Amanda Suzette Lunsford, 15, of Andalusia, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, in a Birmingham hospital. A funeral was held Monday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home. Burial followed in Lunsford Family Cemetery in Babbie.

Geri Jackson Nelson
Geri Jackson Nelson, 60, of Andalusia, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, in a Dothan hospital. A funeral was held Monday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Burial followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

James R. Eiland
James R. Eiland, 80, of Andalusia, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, in an Opp hospital. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Monroe Sasser officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, after 5:30 p.m.

Zeagler N. “Zig” Banks
Zeagler N. “Zig” Banks, 77, of Andalusia, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A veteran of WWII, he graduated Andalusia High School in 1942 and attended Auburn University and the University of Alabama. He and his family were founders and owners of Southern Craftsman Furniture Co. A funeral was held Monday, Sept. 10, at 3:30 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father John Holliman officiating. Burial followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church.

Porter Coston Williamson
Porter Coston Williamson, 74, of Gantt, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at his residence. A funeral was held Monday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.

James Newton Kelley
James Newton Kelley, 73, of Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in a local hospital. A resident of Panama City and Wing. He retired from International Paper Co. after 32 years. Mr. Kelley was an avid hunter and spent most of his time at his farm in Alabama, where he hunted, farmed and enjoyed outdoor life. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Don Redmon and Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m.

John Marvin Warren
John Marvin Warren, 57, of Red Level, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, in an Opp hospital. A funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at River Falls Baptist Church with Rev. Buford Brady and Rev. P.J. McClung officiating. Music was provided by Mark Gunter, soloist, accompanied by Judy Capps and Gail Williams. Burial followed in River Falls Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing.

James A. Warthen
James A. Warthen, 70, of Gantt, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 in a Dothan hospital. A funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Lee and Rev. Robert Canant officiating. Music provided by guitarist Judd Holderfield. Burial followed in Stone Lake Gardens Cemetery with full military rites.
