Effie G. Bass
Effie G. Bass, 67, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in a Crestview, Fla. hospital. A native of Samson, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Ada Locke Gautney. She was a clerk in a convenience store until ill health forced her retirement. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Tony Windham, 46, of Evergreen, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at Sepulga Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Curenton and Rev. Ronnie Jackson officiating. Special music was provided by Sharon McCreary.

Kathy Hicks, 45, of Andalusia, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A funeral was held Monday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m. at Keahey Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Meadows officiating. Special music was provided by Nikki Bracewell accompanied by Helen Harwell. Burial followed in Zion Hill Church Cemetery.
Octavious Holland
Octavious Holland, 68, of Andalusia, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his residence. He was an Air Force veteran. A funeral was held Monday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. at Keahey Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Ganus officiating. Special music was provided by Kandy Nobles. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites.
John George Brooks
John George Brooks, 80, of Andalusia, formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at his residence. He was a police officer with the U.S. Government until his retirement. A Memorial Service will be held in the family plot in Haverhill, Mass.
Kenneth W. Phinney Sr.
Kenneth W. Pinney Sr., 65, of Andalusia, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at his residence. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and he served in the U.S. Army. A funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Cole and Rev. John Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors. Woodrow Busbee, 83, of Andalusia, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gantt with Rev. Wayne Sharpe and Rev. Leonard Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Able Cemetery. Palmer Morgan, 78, of Lakeland, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, in a Lakeland hospital. He was born in Covington County and was a welder and fabricator for food machinery in Lakeland. He was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Army. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Gentry-Morrison Southside Funeral Home in Lakeland. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gentry-Morris Southside.

Roscoe Martin, 90, of Andalusia, formerly of Birmingham, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in a Niceville, Fla. nursing home. Mr. Martin was born and raised in the Wellington community of Calhoun County. He moved to Birmingham and worked with the Seaboard-Coastline RR for 37 years. He had been an active member of Avondale Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Deacon and Elder. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. at Forest Hills Cemtery in Birmingham. Clarice J. Gantt
Clarice J. Gantt, of Niagra Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, in Crestwood Health Care Center, in the Town of Wheatfield, after a short illness. Born in Geneva on April 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Ernie and Eula (Wright) Jones. She attended schools in Alabama and graduated from Florala High School. She resided in Niagra Falls for 11 years. Mrs. Gantt was employed for several years in the Andalusia area for a shirt factory and in Winterhaven, Fla. for a grocery store. A member of the LaSalle Church of Christ, she enjoyed crafts, crocheting and quilting. She was a very family and church oriented woman. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. at Cold Water Cemetery with Bro. Terry Stewart officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home.

A veteran of WWII, he graduated Andalusia High School in 1942 and attended Auburn University and the University of Alabama. He and his family were founders and owners of Southern Craftsman Furniture Co. A funeral was held Monday, Sept. 10, at 3:30 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father John Holliman officiating. Burial followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church.

James Newton Kelley, 73, of Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in a local hospital. A resident of Panama City and Wing. He retired from International Paper Co. after 32 years. Mr. Kelley was an avid hunter and spent most of his time at his farm in Alabama, where he hunted, farmed and enjoyed outdoor life. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Don Redmon and Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
