Thelma Beck Smith, 83, of Andalusia, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. A funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Wilkinson and Rev. Melvin Smith officiating. Music was provided by Lisa Rolling. Burial followed in Thomasson (Hopewell) Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hopewell Baptist Church.
James Arlen Dunn Sr.
James Arlen Dunn Sr., 68, of Andalusia, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, in an Andalusia hospital. Retired from the military, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. A funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Navy.

Ruth Savage Pifer, 81, of Andalusia, formerly of Jeannette, Pa., died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in a Georgia hospital. A funeral was Monday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, Dunson St. with Rev. J.T. Castleberry officiating. Burial followed in the Red Oak Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing.

Hollis Adams, 76, of Andalusia, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in a Dothan hospital. A funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Ganus officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery. Special music was provided by Rev. John McGukin, soloist, and Helen Harwell, pianist. Memorials may be sent to Wiregrass Hospice.

Burnett “Pop” Taylor
Burnett “Pop” Taylor, 82, of Pensacola, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Born Feb. 15, 1919, in Andalusia he was the son of W. Lee and Martha Taylor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. he relocated to Pensacola and was employed with Monsanto as a technician retiring after 25 years of service. After his retirement, he became everyone’s “repair man.” He was a member of the Pine Forest Pentecostal Church. Graveside services will be held Friday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. at Andalusia Memorial Park Cemetery with Sister Hazel Godwin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence.

Jepp T. Sasser, 96, of Inverness, Fla., formerly of Andalusia, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Fla. He was a retired foreman for the Dixon Lumber Company of Andalusia. Born in Brantley, on Aug. 16, 1905, to the late Dennis and Alice Sasser, he was a member of the Floral City Church of Christ. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home with Minister Jeff Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in Sasser Church of Christ Cemetery in Brantley.

Jack ONeal Merritt
Jack ONeal Merritt, age 63, of 3046 12th Avenue, East, (#1 Princeton Place) Tuscaloosa, passed away on November 25, 2001 at his residence. Jack was born in Red Level to Joseph and Martha Merritt. He was a member of Selma Church of God and retired after 33 years with MacMillan Bloedel Paper Company in Pine Hill. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Funeral Services were held at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Tuscaloosa at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27th burial followed at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery. Officiating the funeral was Rev. Ed Booth from Tuscaloosa and Rev. Roger Jacobs from Selma.
Dorothea Lee Doss
Dorothea Lee Doss, 80, of Andalusia, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in an Enterprise hospital. The oldest and longest attending student at LBW College, she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Pilot Club of Andalusia, VALA and Covington Arts Council, Andalusia Ballet. She was the “Birthday and Anniversary Card” Lady. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home. All family and friends welcome. Eulogy by friends; stories and remembrances welcome.

Adelina Russell
Adelina Russell, 91, of Andalusia, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, in an Andalusia nursing facility. She lived in Andalusia for over 60 years, having moved from Texas in the late 30’s. She was a seamstress who made draperies and slip-covers for many Andalusia homes. Graveside services was held Friday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Father Bob Randall officiating. Music provided by Frankie Lancaster, Sara Robinson, Samantha Pollock and Chris Randall.
Susan Grace Trawick Petty
Susan Grace Trawick Petty, 93, of Andalusia, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at her residence. A native of Baldwin County, she was a resident of Andalusia since 1945. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 50 years. Mrs. Petty was employed at Southeastern Box. Co., Columbia Nursing Home and Martin Theaters for many years. She was an avid gardener and was awarded Andalusia’s beautification Award. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov 24, at 11 a.m. at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Judd Stinson officiating.
