Services for James Thomas Thornton, 76, of Crane Hill will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Jerrol Smith Jr. officiating, with burial in Livingston Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Thornton died Sunday, July 21 at Woodland Village Health Care. He was born Dec. 5, 1925 to James and Loel Quattlebaum Thornton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gary Thornton; two brothers; one sister; and two wives, Vila Carden Thornton and Thelma Smith Thornton.
Survivors include his former wife and the mother of his children, Opha Thornton; a son, Doyce (Loretta) Thornton; a brother, Olen Thornton; two sisters, Willodean Screws and Flossie Morrow; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and step-son and special friend, Charles and Myra Carden.
Visitation was Monday.
Sandra Leigh Hamilton
Sandra Leigh Hamilton, 51, of Cullman died Saturday, July 20, 2002 at her residence.

She was born Dec. 30, 1950.
Survivors include her husband, George Hamilton; two sons, Daniel Moore and Raymond Moore; a daughter, Tiffany Hamilton; two sisters, Christine Davis and Frances Newberry; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Loyd died Sunday, July 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 13, 1947.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Ruth Maddox Loyd.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Ramey Loyd of Baileyton; three sons, Michael (Nancy) Loyd, Henry (Jean) Loyd and Gary Loyd, all of Cullman; three daughters, Janet Loyd, Amanda Loyd, both of Cullman, and Jennifer (Micah) Dickinson of Winston County; two brothers, Carlton Loyd, Jimmy Phillips both of Cleveland; a sister, Mary Bohannon of Cullman; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, DeWitt Young; and two uncles, Jerry Young and Marsh Lee.
Survivors include his father, Mark Briscoe; his mother, Barbie Briscoe Stoner; grandparents, J.C. and Faye Briscoe and Eloise Young; a sister, Blair Briscoe; four uncles, Randy Briscoe, Philip Young, Bruce Lee and John Yarns; three aunts, Kathy Lee, Karen Yarns, Connie Lee; and seven cousins, Miranda Conti, Mark Young, Amy Doherty, Krista Livengood, Nathan Lee, Nic Barbee and Jennifer Powell.

Mrs. McSwain died Monday, July 22 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born in Alabama on Jan. 5, 1910 to the Rev. George W. and Parthenia Calvert Goodwin. She was a teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Lester M. McSwain; a sister, Gladys Roden; and four brothers, Ophir, Spencer, Clanton and Mancel Goodwin.
Survivors include an aunt, Mary Davis; two sisters-in-law, Lydia and Christine Goodwin; five nieces; and five nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mr. Holmes died Sunday July 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 20, 1921 in Cullman to Thaley Odis and Lois Oden Holmes. He was retired from Americold.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christine Neal Holmes; his brother, Vic Holmes; and his grandson, Kerry Moses.
Survivors include his son, Lowell (Carol) Holmes of Cullman; his daughter, Glenda (Jerry) Moses of Cullman; two brothers, Quinnon (Sue) Holmes of Mt. Olive and Harry (Kathryn) Holmes of Columbus, Ga.; a sister, Berta Mae (Bert) McGriff of Cullman; three grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Moses of Memphis, Tenn., Christina (Michael) Horton, Christopher Holmes both of Cullman; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna Horton and Brooklyn Horton of Cullman.

Dwight Dwinen Tubbs
Graveside services for Dwight Dwinen Tubbs, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Bethsadia Cemetery, Al Dean officiating.

Mr. Tubbs died Monday, July 22 at his residence. He was born Nov. 24, 1932 in Cullman County to John Oliver and Myrle Carden Tubbs. He was a farmer and was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Cedric Tubbs; and his sister, Jane Jenkins.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Speegle Tubbs of Cullman; four sons, Dwight (Rhonda) Tubbs Jr., Kennith (Cynthia) Tubbs both of Cullman, Steven (Lisa) Tubbs of Arab, and Gregory (Kay) Tubbs of Memphis; a daughter, Liz (Andy) Wear of Fort Payne; four sisters, Nettie Bates, Ruby Smith, Nancy Shortnacy and Peggy Tubbs; 10 grandchildren, Kyle Tubbs, Katie Tubbs, Chris Tubbs, Melissa Tubbs, Travis Tubbs, Rebeca Tubbs, Sean Tubbs, Sybil Tubbs, Kelly Wear, and Drew Wear.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Mr. Ray died Monday, July 22 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 15, 1917 in Cullman County to Noah Jefferson and Lula Belle Holmes Ray. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and was retired from Ceco Steel Products. He was a deacon at Welcome Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Coleman, Hershel and Cephas Ray; and a sister, Zera Mae Bailey.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Estelle Akins Ray of Fairview; three sons, Don (Donna) Ray of Eva, Danny (Melonie) Ray and Delane (Sharon) Ray, all of Fairview; three daughters, Diana (Neal) Woods of Birmingham, Doris (Gene) Pinkard and Debbie (Randall) Shedd, both of Fairview; a sister, Gaynell Latham of Fairview; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
Fred William ‘Jack’ Sanford and Lois Audrey Sanford
Services for Fred William “Jack” Sanford, 89 and Lois Audrey Sanford, 82, of Danville were Monday, July 22, 2002 at Friendship Baptist Church, the Revs. Dan Compton and Francis Proctor officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanford died Friday, July 19 in Cullman County. Mr. Sanford was born May 13, 1913 in Morgan County to Elmer and Eura Filyah Sanford. Mrs. Sanford was born May 12, 1921 in Lawrence County to Jim and Lillian Green Asherbranner. They were both members of Friendship Baptist Church south of Danville. Mr. Sanford was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.
They are survived by a son, Frankey Sanford; a daughter, Joyce Sanford, both of Danville; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Sanford is also survived by a brother, Earnest Sanford of Decatur; and two sisters, Marie Steele and Pauline Prater, both of Danville.
Mrs. Sanford is also survived by a brother, Travis Asherbranner of Danville.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Visitation was Sunday.
Bobby Ray Cates

Survivors include his wife, Doris Cates of Hayden; two daughters, Sandra Horsley of Alaska and Cindy Roper of Kansas; two sons, John R. and Robert Cates of Hayden; a sister, Edith Bieszczad of Illinois; and 11 grandchildren.
