William Julian ‘Bill’ Ward

Funeral services for William Julian “Bill” Ward, 56, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Tom Hammons and Paul Campbell officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ward died Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Hanceville. He was born in Cullman on July 2, 1946 to Clyde J. and Wilma Dorrough Ward.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Celia Mann Ward of Hanceville; a sister, Donna (Greg) Hatchett of Whitewater, Wisc.; his mother-in-law, Wanda Mann of Hanceville; two brothers-in-law, Charles (Linda) Mann of Hanceville and Larry (Thresea) Mann of Cleveland; and 11 nieces and nephews, Scott, Todd, Jennifer, Angela and Julia Hatchett, Charlie and Steven Mann, Hilary Mann, Michael Hamby, Autumn Hamby, Autumn Hamby and Mitchell Hamby.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hanceville First United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edward Lawson Faulkner
Funeral services for Edward Lawson Faulkner, 79, formerly of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Randy Monk officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Faulkner died Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Moulton Nursing Home. He was born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. on May 20, 1923 to William and Nora Faulkner. He was a retired machinist. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper in one term and as a military policeman in the other.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sovoler Faulkner; and a daughter, Eddie Sue Faulkner.

Survivors include a son, David (Vickie) Faulkner of Falkville; four daughters, Sandra (Douglas) Schwan, Kathie (Kenneth) Hardin, Shelia Ann Faulkner, all of Vinemont, and Darlene (Charlie) Smith of Cullman; two brothers, Ules Faulkner of Tiffin, Ohio and Clinton Faulkner of Arab; a sister, Gee Cupp of Cullman; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Geneva Rebecca Shockley

Funeral services for Geneva Rebecca Shockley, 79, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Revs. Malcom Carter II and Malcom Carter officiating, with burial in Fairview West Cemetery in Hanceville.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shockley died Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Cullman. She was born in Cullman on March 10, 1923 to John P. and Maggie Armstrong Hudson. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Horace Shockley; a daughter, Brenda Vincent; two grandsons, Bobby Keller II and Jonathan Waldrop; two sisters, Estelle Defretis and Lois Gentry; and a brother, Donald Hudson.

Survivors include four daughters, Janice Alldredge, Shelia Lopez, Lori Perdue, all of Vinemont and Linda Ball of Cullman; four sons, Bobby Shockley of Vinemont, Dale Shockley of Dothan, Fred Shockley of Bremen, Roger Shockley of Hanceville; two sisters, Flora Glasscock of Walter and Onera Walker of Hanceville; two brothers, Glen Hudson of Baytown, Texas and Larry Hudson of Hanceville; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was Thursday.

Myrl ‘Connie’ Smith

Graveside services for Myrl “Connie” Smith, 86, of Cleveland, Tenn. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at Jones Grove Cemetery in Catlin, Ill., the Rev. Janet Roy officiating.

Ralph Buckner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 10 in a Cleveland hospital. She was a native of Cullman and a graduate of Southern Baptist School of Nursing in New Orleans, and served as second lieutenant nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Ida Hardin Cornelius; and her husband, Harry W. Smith.

Survivors include a daughter, Valerie (Arthur) Jordan of Cleveland, Tenn.; a son, Al Smith of Arlington Heights, Ill.; five grandchildren, Melissa Maney, Brandy Smith, Lance Smith, Sara Smith and Margaret Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Harrison Smith and Madison Smith.

Visitation was Thursday.

Bobby Ray McCombs

Funeral services for Bobby Ray McCombs, 67, of Double Springs will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Jeffery Wiggins and Clice Rogers officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McCombs died Wednesday, Sept. 11 at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen McCombs; three daughters, Sandra Lester, Becky Chambers and Patricia Franks; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six brothers, Carl McCombs, Otis McCombs, Olin Barnett, L.T. Barnett, Glen McCombs and Wendell McCombs; and three sisters, Verta Fergson, Lowelle Nix and Linda Sides.

Gladys Ponder Walker
Funeral services for Gladys Ponder Walker, 75, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Rev. Dennis Trimble officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker died Thursday, Sept. 12 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born March 20, 1927 in Cullman to Shelby and Mary Ann Parker Ponder. She was a cashier for Kmart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank W. Walker; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmy (Pam) Walker, Steve (Anne) Walker, Charlie (Ann) Walker; a brother, Jerry Ponder; three sisters, Lorene Holley, Jessie Burks, Hilda Mullins; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Courtney Noel Hines

Funeral services for Courtney Noel Hines, 3, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Jerry Hall and Henry Hobson officiating, with burial in Eva Methodist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Thursday, Sept. 12 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 6, 1999 in Brainerd, Minn. to Shawn Kelly and Krystal Allen Hines of Cullman.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Don Austin, Ida Hines and Kelly Eberly.

Survivors include her parents; a brother, Mason Hines; a sister, Vanessa Hines, all of Cullman; grandparents, Kathy Middleton of Lafayette, Tenn., Henry Allen of Champagne, Ill., Carol Tolbert Eberly of Arab, and Dale Hines of Cullman; and great-grandparents, Caroline White of Brainerd, Minn., Lila Fishburn of Tompkinsville, Ky. and Elwood Johnson of Brainerd, Minn.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services for Peggy Skinner of Vinemont are incomplete and will be announce at a later date by the funeral home.

Bonnie Bell Denson Patterson

Funeral services for Bonnie Bell Denson Patterson, 82, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Patterson died Thursday, Sept. 12 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born in July 7, 1920 to Preston and Juliaette Yeager Denson. She was a seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, her Herman A. Patterson Sr.; and a daughter, Wanda Gail Patterson.

Survivors include two sons, Herman A. Patterson Jr. of Birmingham, Terry L. Patterson of Hanceville; two daughters, Brenda Tankersley, Rita Kelley both of Cullman; two brothers, J.P. Denson of Cullman, Irvin Denson of Sacremento, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy A. Doggett of Long Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is at 5 p.m. today.

Clifford J. Shoemaker

Graveside services for Clifford J. Shoemaker, 81, of Sunnyhills, Fla. will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at Flint Creek Baptist Church in Vinemont.

Brown Funeral Home of Chipley, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shoemaker died Wednesday, Sept. 9 in Sunnyhills, Fla. He was of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints faith. He was a member of the Elks and Amvets.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Shoemaker of Sunnyhills, Fla.; two brothers, Ron Shoemaker and Les Shoemaker; and a sister, Mert VanRhee, all of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Peggy Jane Skinner
Services for Peggy Jane Skinner, 69, Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Patrick Allred and James Speegle officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Skinner died Friday, Sept. 13 at her residence. She was born in Cullman on April, 11, 1933 to Father Armon and Tennie Bullard Briscoe. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Clarence Briscoe.

Survivors include her husband, Burvil Wesley Skinner; son, Danny (Wanda) Skinner of Cullman; daughter, Dianne (Gregg) Reidenbach of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three brothers, Ardis Briscoe, Dewey (Inas) Briscoe, Lewis (Dorothy) Briscoe; three sisters, Pernie (Bertis) White, Faye (Curtis) Parker, Cora (Dale) baker; grandson, Richard (April) Skinner, two step-grandsons, Erik (Jennifer) Reidenbach, Bret Reidenbach; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Skinner, Danielle Skinner; and two step-great-grandchildren, Krista Reidenbach, Logan Reidenbach.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

John Curtis ‘Brother’ Wright

Services for John Curtis “Brother” Wright, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Daniel Gandy officiating, with burial in Eva Methodist Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wright died Friday, Sept. 13, at Cullman Health Care Center. He was born June 5, 1917, in Morgan County to Thomas George and Gertrude Bates Wright. He was a retired transit driver for Birmingham Transit Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Helen Berzett Wright and Irene Evans Wright; and a sister, Betty Bailey.

Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Holloway and Wilma Adamson both of Eva and step-daughter, Charmin Whesitt of Decatur.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
