Oliver James
Funeral services for Oliver James, 94, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Eddie Thomason

Funeral services for Eddie Thomason, 57, of Hartselle will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at Peck Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Randy Ashley officiating, with burial in Lebanon Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thomason died Tuesday, Sept. 24 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 7, 1945 in Morgan County to Dave and Dorothy Lee Sandlin Thomason. He was retired from Wolverine Tube in Decatur after 34 years as a maintenance man. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Decatur and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a son, Phillip Thomason of Falkville; two sisters, Jane Thomason of Hartselle and Ala Sue Edwards of Letts, Iowa; and two grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Euel Roberts, Ivan Self, Leemon Woods, Tommy Chambers, Wendall Atkins and Johnny Ferguson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruby Mae South Blair
Funeral services for Ruby Mae South Blair, 92, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Good Hope Baptist Church, Dr. Ralph Andrews officiating, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Blair died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 17, 1910 in Morgan County to Robert H. and Lula Teague South.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rufus Ervin Blair; her brother, Paul South; and her sister, Lora Blackman.

Survivors include her son, James Mitchell Blair of Trinity; a daughter, Robbie (Noel) Mize of Cullman; a brother, Clyde (Opaline) South of Sardis; five sisters, Kathleen (Leamon) Woods of Hartselle, Amy Blair of Decatur, Frances Goodwin of Florence, Marie South of Decatur and Gertrude (Luther) Hinds of Cullman; five grandchildren, Denise Blair, Debra Ward, Zane-Ann Roberts, Jonathan Blair and Caron Whitlock; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Sally ‘Savannah’ Marks Connell

Funeral services for Sally “Savannah” Marks Connell, 80, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. David McDonald officiating, with burial in New Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Connell died Wednesday, Sept. 25 at her residence. She was born in June 4, 1922 to John and Effie Garner Marks. She was retired from Cullman Health Care.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, U.V. Bailey, Clorah Godfrey, Beulah Marks; and five brothers, Julius Marks, J.W. Marks, Burl Marks, Hugh Lee Marks, John Marks.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas F. “Jay” Connell; three sons, Sherel (Margaret) Connell of Hanceville, Alvis Connell, Byron (Donna) Connell both of Cullman; five daughters, Lynda Gail (Ray) Harris of Crane Hill, Sharon (Tommy) Williams of Vinemont, Karon (Mark) Smith, Freida (Ed) Calvert, Samantha (John) Welch all of Cullman; sister, Estelle Sims of Cullman; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Brian Murphree

Funeral services for Brian Murphree, 28, of Hanceville, son of Cullman County Coroner, Gary Murphree, are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Moss Service Funeral Home.

Lowell W. Bryan

Lowell W. Bryan, 73, of Cullman died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Moss Service Funeral Home.

Carolyn Rose Rains Wood

Memorial services for Carolyn Rose Rains Wood, 63, of Gadsden will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at First Baptist Church of Gadsden Chapel.

Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wood died Tuesday, Sept. 24 after an extended battle with cancer. She was an artist and a member of Gadsden Art Association, the Gadsden Women’s Club, and the Beautification Board.

Survivors include four sisters, Ilene and Wanda Wesley of Cullman, Yvonne (Lou) Kataopka of Rockledge, Fla., Margie Lott and Inez Kallenbach of Oklahoma; two brothers, Wayne (Belva) Rains of Rockport, Texas and Harold Rains of Hanceville; nine nephews and nieces, Sarah Chauvin, Wendy Kilcollins, Kaye (Tom) Weller, Teresa (Jeff) Burtner, Cheryl (Blair) Rossing, Doug (Olga) Lott, Norm (Maggie) McDonald, Rhonda (Roger) Price, Regina Rule; two cats, Mary Margaret O’Reilly and Buffy St. Marie; and her Doberman pinscher, Olivia De Haviland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gadsden Art Association or the Etowah County Humane Society.

Brian Wayne Murphree
Graveside services for Brian Wayne Murphree, 28, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at Cullman City Cemetery, the Revs. Dudley Brock and Jason Murphree officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Murphree died Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1974 in Alabama to Gary W. and Rebecca J. Spradlin Murphree.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James H. “Poke” and Doris Spradlin and L.D. and Helen Murphree.

Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Jennifer Murphree and Amy Murphree; a brother, Ben (Marion) Murphree; a niece, Morgin; and a nephew, Blaise.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Travis C. Clowers

Funeral services for Travis C. Clowers, 92, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Stanley Posey officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clowers died Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 17, 1910 to Patrick and Ella Clements Clowers. He was a retired coal miner.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include four sons, Donald T. (Carolyn) Clowers, Eskell E. (Donna) Clowers of Plant City, Fla., Gary T. Clowers of Crane Hill, and Sydney R. (Linda) Clowers of Albertville; a daughter, Linda L. (Jay) Cadle of Vinemont; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Lowell Wiley Bryan

Graveside services for Lowell Wiley Bryan, 73, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Cullman City Cemetery, the Rev. Morris Nunnelly officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bryan died Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1929 to Wiley and Birdie Ivey Bryan. He was a press operator at Cullman Products.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Bryan; a goddaughter, Diane Lee; three sisters, Georgia Buchanan, Nelda Ree Gaddis and Jean (Robert) Pannell.

Visitation was Thursday.

Tempie Louvenia Kenerley

Funeral services for Tempie Louvenia Kenerley, 77, of Crane Hill will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at Flat Rock United Methodist Church, the Revs. Sam Harton and Mark Mayo officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kenerley died Wednesday, Sept. 25 at her residence. She was born Sept. 22, 1925 to Luther and Tempie S. Livery Pugh. She was a retired practical nurse in home health care. She was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sons, Robert Williamson and Melvin Williamson, both of Cullman.

Survivors include her husband, W.M. Kenerley of Crane Hill; two daughters, Tempie Keeton of Warrior and Martha Barber of Decatur; two sons, William “Buddy” Williamson of Crane Hill and Arthur Kenerley of Cullman; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cullman County at 402 4th Ave. NE, Cullman 35055.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today.

Emily Jean Easterwood Butler

Funeral services for Emily Jean Easterwood Butler, 72, of Athens will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Mel Tobias officiating, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Butler died Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Athens Limestone Hospital. She was born in Cullman County on March 8, 1930 to Harrie and Gertrude Brock Easterwood. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Paschal Butler; and two sons, Robert Rickland Butler and Jack Mark Butler.

Survivors include a son, Ken (Joyce) Butler of Eva; a daughter, Gloria (Paul) Hull of Lanett; five grandchildren, Darien Arrington, Eady Kimbrell, Kenneth Shane Butler, Jeb Butler, and Rachel Butler; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Kimbrell and Maggie Butler; and special friend, Donald Taylor of Denver, Colo.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
