Winham E. ‘Pete’ Yeager

Funeral services for Winham E. “Pete” Yeager, 78, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 at Jefferson Memorial Chapel in Trussville, L.J. Yeager officiating, with burial in Honor Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.

Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Yeager died Thursday, Sept. 26 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War where he served as a hospital corpsman second class. He worked 33 years for Ingalls Iron Works and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Gloria Louise Yeager.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria M. Yeager; four daughters, Joyce Lynn Williams, Lou Yvonne Bray, Lisa Kim Cuttcliff, Miranda Jacque Allen; one daughter-in-law, Jannett Yeager; son, Philip David Yeager; three sons-in-law, James Williams, Ronnie Bray, Thomes Cuttcliff; one brother, L.J. Yeager; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Donna Kaye Popdan
Funeral services for Donna Kaye Popdan, 37, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, the Rev. Billy Teague officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Popdan died Friday, Sept. 27 in Cullman. She was born Oct. 18, 1964. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hubert Reynolds.

Survivors include her husband, James Popdan; a son, Dustin Popdan; her mother, Barbara Johnston; her stepfather, George Johnston; a brother, Tommy Little; and three sisters, Sherry (Kirk) Powers, Susie Elliott, Connie (Terry) Webb.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the James Popdan Fund at Merchants Bank in Cullman or Fairview.

Visitation was Monday.

Charles W. Skipper Jr.

Funeral services for Charles W. Skipper Jr., 79, of Carlsbad, N.M., formerly of Cullman, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at Epworth Methodist Church, Chaplain Ervin Van Essen of Landsun Homes officiating, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. The Carlsbad Honor Guard will perform military honors at graveside. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Cullman.

West Funeral Home of Carlsbad, N.M. is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Skipper died Saturday, Sept. 28 at his residence. He was born Jan. 8, 1923 in Cullman to Charles W. Sr. and Rissie Lou Segars Skipper. He was raised and educated in Alabama. He enlisted in the Army/Air Force on Sept. 9, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Jan. 4, 1946. He married Lucille Harman in Roswell, N.M. in 1944. He received his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. He moved to Carlsbad in 1962 where he owned and operated the Platt Drug store for 25 years. He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church, Elks BPOE No. 1558 and American Legion Post No. 7.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Cliff, C.J., and Edward Skipper; and one sister, Vida Scheinert.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Harman Skipper of Carlsbad; two daughters, Barbara (John) Alford and Jeannette Harrington, both of Carlsbad; a brother, Emil Lee Skipper of Cullman; two sisters, Lucille Murphree and Tillie Mae Smith, both of Cullman; three grandchildren, Kimberlee Richards of Butte, Mont., Leanette Smith of Austin, Texas and Bonnie Harrington of Carlsbad; and five great-grandchildren, Aschan, Kaemen and Kyriea Richards and Dalton and Jaden Smith.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Johnny Ralph Harbison
Graveside services for Johnny Ralph Harbison, 42, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at Bethany Cemetery, the Rev. Joe Turner officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harbison died Sunday, Sept. 29 at his residence. He was born in Birmingham on Feb. 27, 1960 to Devon and Joan Judy Clay Harbison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Frankie Harbison.

Survivors include his daughter, Brennan (Nick Guest) Harbison of Birmingham; and two brothers, Michael Harbison of Cullman and Phillip (Vickie) Harbison of Crane Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harbor House, Cullman at 256-775-2600.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. today at Bethany Baptist Church.

Alton Willard Sandlin

Alton Willard Sandlin, 76, of Cullman died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Williams-McCracken Funeral Home.

Pluma A. Baker
Funeral services for Pluma A. Baker, 82, of Hayden will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, J.C. Dunn officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Baker died Tuesday, Oct. 1 at her residence. She was born Jan. 3, 1920 in Cullman County to Aubrey and Mary Vaughn. She was a nurse’s aide.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Billy Gene Baker and Jerry Wayne Baker; two brothers, A.Q. Vaughn and Talmadge Vaughn.

Survivors include four sons, Euel (Ann) Baker of Cullman County, Frank (Betty) Baker of Hayden, J.C. (Frances) Baker of Hanceville, and Junior (Jane) Baker of Vinemont; a daughter, Barbara (Howard) Love of Hayden; a sister, Edna Swann of Cullman; two brothers, Bob Vaughn of Georgia and J.D. Vaughn; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Tirza Lenore Martin

Graveside services for Tirza Lenore Martin, 86, of Crane Hill will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at Flat Rock Methodist Cemetery, David Holton officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin died Tuesday, Oct. 1 at his residence. He was born Nov. 7, 1915 to Clarence Richard and Alice Clark Waldron. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Fred E. (Eugenia) Martin of Crane Hill; a brother, Menton Moran “Jack” Waldron of Strathmore, Calif.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Rosamond of Clay.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Alton Willard ‘Buck’ Sandlin

Funeral services for Alton Willard “Buck” Sandlin, 76, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fr. John O’Donnell, OSB, officiating, with burial in Roundtop Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sandlin died Tuesday, Oct. 1 at his residence. He was born March 31, 1926 in Morgan County to the Rev. Ruel and Minnie Pearl Payne Gordon. He was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rosemary T. Chaney; and three sisters, Louise Day, Ruby Williams and Emma Hamrick.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Theresa Schaefers Sandlin of Cullman; five sons, Alton W. Sandlin Jr. of Hoover, David J. Sandlin, James Daniel Sandlin, Peter A. Sandlin, all of Cullman, Paul A. Sandlin of Lewisville, N.C.; three daughters, Celestine A. Chappell of Mobile, Regina R. Hays and Mary Alice Veal, both of Cullman; four brothers, the Rev. Jack Sandlin, Charles Sandlin, Billy Ray Sandlin, all of Hanceville, Gerald Sandlin of Good Hope; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

A rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Paula Louise Kilpatrick
Graveside services for Paula Louise Kilpatrick, 53, of Winchester, Tenn. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Mt. Zion Cemetery, the Rev. Paul Campbell officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kilpatrick died Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was born April 22, 1949 in Attleboro, Mass. to Walter and Grace Stott. She was a registered nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jimmy Melvin Kilpatrick.

Survivors include a son, James Kilpatrick of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Diane Governo and Wendy Stott; and a brother, James Stott.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alton Willard ‘Buck’ Sandlin

Grady McCoy Wray

Funeral services for Grady McCoy Wray, 63, of Decatur were held Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Dr. Harold Fanning officiating, with burial in Shoal Creek Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wray died Monday, Sept. 30. He was born Oct. 3, 1938 in Morgan County to Morgan Grady and Fannie Gertrude Dunn Wray. He worked at ConAgra as a mechanic and was a member of the Shoal Creek Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a daughter, Shelia Diane Wray.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Mae Henson Wray; three sons, Daryl McCoy Wray of Moulton, David Morgan Wray and James Daniel “Danny” Wray of Decatur; a daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Jean Wray Jones of Shreveport, La.; his mother, Fannie Wray of Somerville; four brothers, W.D. Wray and James Wray of Somerville, Vann Wray of Holly Pond, Whitt Wray of Cullman; three sisters, Martha Wray Gravatt and Judy Wray Atkins of Hartselle, Myra Lou Wray Patterson of Owens Cross Roads; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Atkins, Kevin Patterson, Chris Wray, Randall Gravatt, Royce Wray and Cory Henson.
