Gary Wayne McDowell
Services for Gary Wayne McDowell, 51, of Charleston, S.C. will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Stuhrs Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McDowell died Monday, Nov. 26. He was born Sept. 26, 1950 in Cullman, the son of Floyd Quinton and Ophelia Barnett McDowell. He was employed by MUSC. He retired with the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Nanette Ducharme McDowell of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Amanda Leigh Hill and Stephanie Ann McDowell Crider, both of Cullman; a brother, George Q. McDowell of Cullman; a sister, Judyann M. Parker of Cullman; and five grandchildren.

William Conrad ‘Bill’ Martin Jr.
Services for William Conrad “Bill” Martin Jr., 68, of Lucedale, Miss. were Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, in Lucedale, with burial in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mr. Martin died Saturday, Nov. 17 in Lucedale. He was born Oct. 11, 1933 to William Conrad and Helen E. Martin. He retired from teaching and coaching after 34 years of service and had the honor of having the new George County High School stadium named after him and fellow coach Fred Gill and known as the Gill/Martin stadium. He was also a life deacon at the First Baptist Church of Lucedale. He was a four-year letterman and graduated in 1953 from Cullman High School. He attended University of Alabama on scholarship and then transferred to University of Southern Mississippi where he played football for three years.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Joyce “Hughes” Martin; three sons, Rusty Martin, Steve (Sandy) Martin, Jason (Greta) Martin; seven grandchildren, Savannah, Brook, Kurt, Braden, Jason, Kelly and April; two sisters, Mary Katherine Heinl and Peggy Jean Mauricio, both of Cullman; and an aunt, Sue Gammon of Cullman.
Clyde O. Tilley
Services for Clyde O. Tilley, 86, of Hayden will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Rev. Lonnie Goodwin officiating, with burial at Gwynns Cove Cemetery.

Mr. Tilley died Thursday, Nov. 29 in Oneonta. He was born Dec. 3, 1914. He was a gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Eleise Cornelius Tilley of Hayden; two daughters, Sharon Tilley Ellis of Cullman, Ida Clydette Tilley Granado of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two stepsons, Vernon E. Nelson of Birmingham, William L. Nelson of Columbia, S.C.; eight granddaughters, Amanda Ellis, Crystal Ellis both of Cullman, Angie Granado of Chicago, Ill., Denise Nelson Higgins, Melissa Nelson both of Columbia, S.C., Jodi Nelson, June Nelson both of San Diego, Calif., Amy Nelson Turnbo of Gardendale; two grandsons, Bradley Ellis of Cullman, Jesse Owen Nelson of San Diego, Calif.; eight great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Peggy, Faye and Frances.

James Monroe Hood
Services for James Monroe Hood, 72, of Woodville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Micheal Williamson officiating, with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Mr. Hood died Thursday, Nov. 29 at his residence. He was born Oct. 12, 1929 in Winston County to John and Lela Barlett Hood. He was a truck driver for Amerigas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Melva Geneva Byars Hood of Woodville; a son, Rodger Hood of Granville, Ohio; a daughter, Martha Hood of Woodville; a brother, Charles Hood of Huntsville; three sisters, Flonnie Strickland, Pearl Hall and Carolyn Gordon, all of Cullman; and four grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday.
Patricia Ann Sanford
Services for Patricia Ann Sanford, 64, of Logan will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at Nichols Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oakland Memorial Garden, Henry Hodson officiating.

She died Thursday, Nov. 29 at her residence. She was born in Atlanta, Ga. on March 7, 1934 to Robert and Onie Ruth Towns. She was a house sitter for the elderly.
Survivors include two sons, Robert J. (Cindy) Sanford of St. Petersburg, Fla., Toby J. (Anita) Sanford of Logan; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. today.
Vera C. Angle
Services for Vera C. Angle, 87, of Hanceville will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Richard Bailey and Dr. David McGowin officiating, with burial in Mt. Joy Cemetery.

She died Wednesday, Nov. 21 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Dec. 17, 1913 to Charlie and Sarah Sandlin Campbell. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a brother, J.D. Campbell of Cullman; and three sisters, Lena Grimmett and Edna Whaley, both of Cullman; Margie Hathcote of Birmingham.
Visitation was Friday.
E.J. Ostberg
Memorial services for E.J. Ostberg, 59, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001 at Victory Park, the Rev. Dale Moore officiating.
Mr. Ostberg died Thursday, Nov. 22 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1942 in Nebraska. He was retired from Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Alabama after 26 years of service. He was a member of Jubilee Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ward M. Ostberg.
Survivors include his wife, Jane York Ostberg of Cullman; his mother, Irene Nicodemus Ostberg of Mobile; a son, Michael Ward Ostberg of Cullman; a daughter, Susan Jane Ostberg of Cullman; and a brother, Robert Ward Ostberg of Pell City.

Helen C. Benton
Services for Helen C. Benton, 79, of Montgomery will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001 at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Dr. Greg Belser officiating, with burial in Green wood Cemetery.

Mrs. Benton died Wednesday, Nov. 21 in a Montgomery hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Benton.
Survivors include two sons, Donald E. Hoover of Wetumpka and Dr. Jim (Deborah) Hoover; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Hoover, Jacquelyn Hoover and Barrett Hoover, all of Cullman.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Leak-Memory Chapel.

Services for Ada Dale Light, 60, of Bremen will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001 at Antioch Baptist Church in Bremen, the Revs. Earnest McKinnon, Marvin Clemons, Donald Day and Keith Phillips officiating, with burial in Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour before the service.

Mrs. Light died Thursday, Nov. 22 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. She was a member at Antioch Baptist Church in Bremen for over 30 years.
Survivors include her husband, James Lelton Light of Bremen; four daughters, Brenda (Danny) Gann of Bremen, Charolotte Curtis of Jasper, Pam (Tim) Lively and Dianne Light, both of Arkadelphia; two sons, Ricky (Pam) Light and Kip (Mitzi) Light, both of Jasper; two sisters, Nora Johns of Fairview and Ruth Williams of Bremen; 19 grandchildren, Daniel Gann, Keith Gann, Brad Curtis, Jason Walton, Jason McCullar, Jeanifer Light, Rachel Terry, Tifany Lively, Talisha Light, Hunter Roden, Rose Gann, Michelle Gann, Melissa Walton, Angie McCullar, Adam Light, Andy Light, Ben Terry, Malory Light, Dustin Roden; and seven great-grandchildren, Abby McCullar, Kylie Gann, Braden Walton, Chandler Terry, Chloe McCullar, Tagan Curtis, Sadie Terry.

Christine Goeller
Services for Christine Goeller, 81, of Cullman were Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Harold Hermetz officiating, with burial in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Goeller died Saturday, Dec. 1 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born April 12, 1920 in Alabama to Benjamin L. and Cora Reid Barnett. She was a cook and food service worker.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Sherry) Goeller of Cullman; three sisters, Carrie Boren of Chrismon, Ill., Georga Hudson and Evelyn (Roe) Rutherford, both of Cullman; a brother, Johnny (Clara) Barnett of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Zella Barnett of Cullman; and two grandchildren, Nicky and Vicky Goeller.
Visitation was Sunday.
