Graveside services for Daniel Shuford Young, 92, of Cleveland, Tenn., formerly of Cullman, were Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at Enon Cemetery, Larry Nail officiating.

Mr. Young died Saturday, Dec. 28 in Cleveland, Tenn. after a period of declining health. He was born Nov. 26, 1910 in Cleveland County, N.C. to James and Alice Crawley Young. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps based in Smokemont in the 1930s and was a retired construction worker. He was a former resident of Rutherford County and Cullman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carl, Leroy, Woodrow and Sam Young; and two infant sisters. He also had a brother, Sam Young.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Strout and Judy Rattler of Asheville, N.C.; a son, Danny Young of Cullman; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Alfred George Richter
Funeral services for Alfred George Richter, 83, of Cullman were Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Perry Knight officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Richter died Dec. 29 at Woodland Village Health Care Center. He was born March 10, 1919 to Julius Paul and Mary Bertha Keim Richter. He was a maintenance worker for Cullman Products/Tucker Homes. He was a veteran of the U.S. military.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include a sister, Agnes Richter Cordes; two brothers, Alphonse Richter and Franklin Richter; and caregivers, Jerome and Robin Speegle.
Visitation was Monday.
Willie R. ‘Shorty’ Stewart
Funeral services for Willie R. “Shorty” Stewart, 71, of Gardendale will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Thomas Graves officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Stewart died Monday, Dec. 30 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was born Feb. 13, 1931 in Cullman County to Willie Richard and Ophia Waters Stewart. He was active many years in Little League Baseball and was a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; and one sister.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie (Prentice) McDonald, Wanda McAuley of Fultondale and Jo Ann (Roy) Glenn of Hayden; four sisters, Imogene Hinkle of Hayden, Evelyn Conn, Pat Stewart, and Mary James of Cullman; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Martice ‘Marty’ Morris
Graveside services for Martice “Marty” Morris, 72, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at New Friendship Cemetery, Marvin Head officiating.

Mr. Morris died Monday, Dec. 30 at his residence. He was born June 24, 1930 in Jemison to Tommy F. and Willie Mae Cofer Morris. He worked for Dunn Construction, was a member of Cullman VFW Post 2214, DAV and the American Legion, and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Eva Oaks.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Morris of Cullman; a stepson, Danny (Adrienne) Fuston of Buford, Ga.; four brothers, Melton Morris and Rober Morris of Jemison, Elwyn Morris of Hazel Green, and Roger Morris of Clanton; three sisters, Ama Killingsworth, Annie Mae Jones and Shirlene Smith of Jemison; and three step-grandchildren, Jason, Mandy and William Fuston of Buford, Ga.
Pallbearers will be Gary Smith, Roger Smith, Levohn Denney, Randy Denney, Danny Morris, and Craig Morris.
Honorary pallbearer will be Stacy Morris.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dr. William ‘Bill’ Elbert Clarke
Graveside services for Dr. William “Bill” Elbert Clarke, 76, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at Cullman City Cemetery, the Revs. Bob Kurtz and Steve Woods officiating.

Dr. Clarke died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at his residence. He was born in Dublin, Ga. on Oct. 26, 1926 to Elbert Ellis and Lillie Mae Edwards Clarke. He was a retired veterinarian, having worked for the U.S. Government in Gainesville, Ga. as a poultry inspector, the Georgia Poultry Association, in Gainesville, Ga., Dow Chemical Company, Gold Kist Company of Cullman and retired in 1989 from Agro Bio Company (later known as American Home Products). He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Dublin High School, attended Georgia Military College of Milledgeville, Middle Georgia College of Cockrin, Ga., Mercer University of Macon, Ga. and graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., with a doctorate in veterinary medicine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Joyce Matry Carter Clarke.
Survivors include his wife, Florine Perry Clarke of Cullman; two sons, Elbert Clarke of Cullman, Richard (Pam) Clarke of Olive Branch, Miss.; one brother, Dr. Albert (Florence) Clarke of New Orleans; step-son, Smokey (Donna) Spears of Auburn; step-daughter, Carolyn (Kent) Smith of Gloucester, Va.; step-grandson, Preston Thomas of Olive Branch, Miss.; and four step-granddaughters, Christina Spears of Nashville, Stephanie (Benji) Falloway of Lexington, Ky., Heather Smith of Chicago and Megan Smith of Gloucester, Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church of Cullman or Hospice of Cullman.

John Marion Oscar Cook Jr.
Funeral services for John Marion Oscar Cook Jr., 71, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, Rev. Rodger White officiating, with burial in New Hope No. 2 Cemetery.

Mr. Cook died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at Woodland Village Health Care. He was born Dec. 25, 1931 to John Marion Oscar Cook Sr. and Lou Anner Screws. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cullman and served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include four sons, Lessley Cook of Birmingham, John Marion Oscar Cook III of Cullman, James W. Cook of Virginia and Barry Cook of Hartselle; three daughters, Donna Teichmiller and Dianna Durham, both of Cullman and Marsha Hart of Danville; one brother, F.M. Cook of Jasper; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Luther Lindsay Brown
Funeral services for Luther Lindsay Brown, 86, of the Hulaco Community in Joppa will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan 3, 2003 at Hebron Church of Christ, Ray Humphries and Roger Latham officiating, with burial in Hebron Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Brown died Wednesday, Jan. 1 at his residence. He was born in Morgan County on July 4, 1916 to Arthur A. and Mattie Briscoe Brown. A lifelong residence of the Hulaco Community, he was a retired carpenter and farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Nellie Pearl Brown.
Survivors include his daughter, Peggy (Norman) Roberts of Joppa; grandson, Allen (Tabatha) Roberts of Joppa; granddaughter, Hope (Chris) Cagle of Athens; and two great-grandsons, Cody and Jake Roberts of Joppa.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Elizabeth C. Fowler, 97, of Piedmont will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Mickelsen-McGee Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Gene Howard and Rodney Ragsdale officiating, with burial in Highland Cemetery.

Mrs. Fowler died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at her residence. She was a native and long-time resident of Piedmont and had lived in Montgomery for many years while working at the Gunter Air Force Base. She was a member of the Piedmont First Presbyterian Church and was a former secretary and treasurer of the Rebekah Lodge in Piedmont. She was a published poet through the National Library of Poetry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leonidas and Annie J. Savage Adderhold; and 13 siblings.
Pallbearers will be Joe Lively, Jim Decker, Ken Grissom, Ronnie Morgan, Roy Formby, Frank Douthit and James Decker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Piedmont Rescue Squad.

David Eugene Rodgers Sr.
Funeral services for David Eugene Rodgers Sr., 68, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Delwin Kilgo officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Rodgers died Wednesday, Jan. 1 at his residence. He was born Sept. 6, 1934 in Cullman County to Buford Joe David and Claudie Mae McKenzie Rodgers. He was a retired water and sewer superintendant, having worked for the city of Cullman for 27 years. He was also a member of the U.S. Navy and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Maxine Knopp.
Survivors include his wife, Betty June Moser Rodgers of Cullman; a son, David E. Rodgers Jr. of Cullman; a brother, Donald Wayne (Reda) Rodgers of Cullman; four sisters, Wedia Ray of Cullman, Linda (Ronnie) Phillips, Jane (Benny) Day and Sharon (Al) Stanley of Albertville; and a grandchild, Kris (Shawn) Todd of Cullman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Dorothy Mae Gregory

Mrs. Gregory died Wednesday, Jan. 1. She was born Oct. 3, 1930 to James and Ruby Freeman Lackey. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnnie Gregory; and a grandchild, Shannon Gregory.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Gregory of Chelsea, Charlie (Vicki) Gregory of Vincent and Timmy (Betty) Gregory of Cullman; two daughters, Esther (Jesse) Reese and Annette Bates of Cullman; a sister, Verla Crocetti of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Amanda (Anthony) Hill, Doug Bates II, Allison Gregory, Jessica Reese, and Leslie Gregory; and one great-grandchild, Jennifer Jester.
