Annie Lee Livingston Williamson

Funeral services for Annie Lee Livingston Williamson, 87, of Starkville, Miss. were held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Welch Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Sam Allen officiating, with burial in Sturgis Cemetery.

Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, Miss. was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williamson died Thursday, Jan. 2, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was a retired teacher, having taught first grade at the Sturgis School for 38 years. She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women and a member of the Order of the Easter Star, the Retired Teachers, the Sturgis Women’s Club, and the Joyful Noisemakers. She was a member of Sturgis Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lamberth Williamson.

Survivors include a son, Dr. John T. (Judy) Williamson of Cullman; a brother, A.L. Livingston Jr. of Lillian; one grandson, Jeb (Lanie) Williamson of Birmingham; one granddaughter, Julie Williamson (Philip) Whatley of Columbia, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Grace Whatley of Columbia, Tenn.

Visitation was Saturday.

James Corley
Funeral services for James Corley, 82, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, Billy Mosteller and Price Robinson officiating, with burial in Flint Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Corley died Monday, Jan. 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 12, 1920 in Alabama to James Tildon and Jennie Couch Corley. He was an auto salesman and a veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Virgil Corley and Floyd Corley.

Survivors include his wife, Wilda Moon Corley of Vinemont; three daughters, Jamelle (Robert) Graham of Gum Pond, Judy (Hinton) Mitchem of Vinemont and Catina (Joe) Parrish of Hoover; two sons, Michael (Sandy) Corley and Tildon (Becky) Corley, both of Vinemont; a sister, Lucille Bryant of Falkville; six grandchildren, Candice Corely, Brandy Graham, Kyle Shaw, Kerry Shaw, Brittnie Mabry, and Courtney Corley; and three great-grandchildren, Corley Parrish, Colton Graham and Caylee Parrish.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today.

Henry Carl Couey Sr.

Funeral services for Henry Carl Couey Sr., 76, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church, the Revs. Millard Mann and Jack Steele officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Couey died Monday, Jan. 6 at his residence. He was born July 10, 1926 in Sommerville to John Allen and Claudie Free Couey. He was a poultry farmer.

He was preceded in death by parents; and his brother, Fred Couey.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Marylene Payne Couey of Cullman; two sons, Henry Carl (Darla) Couey Jr. of Cullman and Rickey Allen (Becky) Couey of Mt. Olive; two brothers, James Paul Couey of Michigan and Gordon (Betty) Couey of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Wendy (Larry) Kirk, Dana Couey, Stephanie Couey, and Adam Couey; and one great-grandchild, Allison Corrin Kirk.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today.

Willie Lee Whitaker

Funeral services for Willie Lee Whitaker, 97, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jimmy McClendon and Michael Parker officiating, with burial in Baldwin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Whitaker died Monday, Jan. 6 at her residence. She was born Dec. 2, 1905 in Cullman County to Thomas J. Wisner and Metilda Weathers Whitaker. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olen D. Whitaker; three brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Adrew (Julius) Guthrie and Barbara Wren of Cullman; two sisters, Rachael Bailey and Edna Smith of Cullman; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Steve Randall Philyaw

Funeral services for Steve Randall Philyaw, 45, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Max Hagood officiating, with burial in Cross Roads Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Philyaw died Monday, Jan. 6 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Dec. 1, 1957 in Cullman County to Ernest Lee and Mary Louise Cupp Philyaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a son, Richard Jason Philyaw of Morgan County; two daughters, Jessica Nicole May of Morgan County and Carolyn Louise Philyaw of Cullman; three brothers, Billy Joe (Becky) Philyaw of Cullman, Timmy Marice Philyaw of Eva and Stoney William Philyaw of Morgan County; and four sisters, Patricia Ann (James) McGraw, Angela Louise Philyaw, Connie Rene (Larry) Hines of Cullman, and Tina Diane (Scott) McKenzie of Illinois.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Alton Floyd Ray

Funeral services for Alton Floyd Ray, 90, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Nesmith Methodist Church, Joe Calvert, Emory Calvert and Mac Buttram officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Homess is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ray died Monday, Jan. 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 21, 1912 in Conecuh County to Willie Baxter and Pearl Vinson Ray.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera Umphrey Ray; a daughter, Honor Mae Ray; a daughter-in-law, Judy Ray; a son-in-law, Earl Wrenn; and three sisters, Oliva Stephenson, Juanita Ransom and Mary Ray.

Survivors include his wife, Cloie McDonald Ray of Cullman; four sons, Willie Joe (Judy) Ray of Winston County, James Garland (Carla) Ray of Haleyville, Darryal Wayne Ray of Oxford, and David Randal (Benita) Ray of Minnesota; a stepson, Gary (Carol) Pinkard; two daughters, Norma Jean Wrenn and Ima Jean (Gerald) Hardin of Cullman; a brother, Hubert Ray of Hlaeyville; two sisters, Idell Carpenter and Wynell Wisner of Georgia; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Josephine Casebeer

Funeral services for Helen Josephine Casebeer, 81, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. David McDonald officiating, with burial in Missionary Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Casebeer died Monday, Jan. 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born May 25, 1918 in Louisville, Ky. to Joseph and Frances Wright. She was a retired waitress.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edmund Casebeer; and two sons, Charles W. Carroll and Edmond P. Casebeer.

Survivors include a son, Joe Carroll of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; two daughters, Sue Tyre of Beverton, Mich. and Lavern Cox of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; a sister, Frances Branch of San Antonio, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mattie Byrd Marchman

Funeral services for Mattie Byrd Marchman, 83, of the Brooklyn Community will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Clenon Shedd and Michael Floyd officiating, with burial in Brooklyn Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marchman died Monday, Jan. 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 22, 1919 in Fayette County to Luther M. and Minerva Ann Eason Banks. She was a homemaker and a member of Redan Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Harold Marchman of Brooklyn; a son, David (Dianne) Marchman of Brooklyn; three daughters, Glenda Murphee and Gaye Nell Finley, both of Cullman, and Joyce (Alton) Shedd of Illinois; three brothers, Melvin and Carlton Banks of Georgia, Joe Banks of Holly Pond; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tim Earl, Jonathan Murphree, Richie Earl, Terry Finley, Nathan Finley, Rick Saylor, James Earl, and Randy White.

Visitation will be at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Claudie L. Hollingsworth

Funeral services for Claudie L. Hollingsworth, 96, of Blountsville were Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Blountsville Funeral Chapel, with burial in Dailey's Chapel Cemetery near Rosa.

Blountsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hollingsworth died Monday, Jan. 6 at Woodland Health Care. She was born in Blount County to George Houston and Lula Levanie Moore McCullough. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, W.J. Hollingsworth Jr.; her husband, James Walter Hollingsworth; a daughter, Jeanette Whited; two brothers, J.P. McCullough and Jesse McCullough; and four sisters, Ila Fowler, Vazell Whited, Willene Fortenberry, and Maevoreen Hodges.

Survivors include a son, Jerry (Ann) Hollingsworth of Blountsville; a daughter, Matleen McGovern of Texas; a sister, Agnes Anderson of Albertville; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Irene Burrow Lovelady

Funeral services for Irene Burrow Lovelady, 80, of La Place, La., formerly of Cullman, were held Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at First Christian Church of Metairie, La., with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lovelady died Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Catherine Campbell Burrow.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Pallie Burrow Russell; three brothers, Theadore 'Theo' Burrow, G.C. Burrow and Ottis Burrow.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Reese Lovelady; a daughter, Bobbi (Edward Jr.) Diaz; two grandsons, Edward 'Trey' Diaz III and Robert Reese Diaz; and a brother, Edward (Barbara) Burrow of Cullman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Christian Church of Metairie, La. (Greater New Orleans).

Ima Inze Gilliland
Funeral services for Ima Inze Gilliland, 80, of Cullman were Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Revs. Dudley Brock and Steve Rogers officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lay in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gilliland died Saturday, Jan. 4. She was born April 11, 1922 to Wiliam and Narcie Dyer Spradlin. She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew H. Gilliland; two sons, Billy Gilliland and Tommy Gilliland; three brothers, Rufus, Cleo and John Spradlin; three sisters, Gertrude Spradlin, Clara Spradlin and Berda Snow; and her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Gail) Gilliland and Jerry Gilliland, both of Cullman; three daughters, Martha (Charles) Brown, Brenda Moore of Cullman and Barbara (Wayne) Armstrong of Hanceville; a brother, Mac (Athelene) Spradlin of Mt. Olive; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.
